We are taking our kids(ages 8, 3, and 1) to Disney in August. We usually go in Oct., so I am worried about the heat. Any advice for keeping the kids hydrated and cooled off?

We almost always go in August. I think the keys are to get out to the parks early--take advantage of the morning EMH. Around lunchtime go back to the hotel and nap, swim, whatever. Then take a nice cool shower and go back out for the evening, and for the night if the kids are up to it.

It WILL be hot and humid, but we've done it since our kids were 7 and 4.

Good Luck!

Bob

I went in August a few years ago. It was hot & humid but not as bad as I expected.

The best advice i have is drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated. Take frequent breaks and pop into indoor (air conditioned) areas often.

we have gone to the world during August three times - crazy I know

but this trick really saved us

every morning before leaving the room i would take a couple of ziplock bags and throw a wash cloth in each and fill it half way with ice from the ice machine at the hotel

what a wonderful feeling to pull that out of your bag and put on your neck or forehead during those HOT HOT HUMID HUMID August days and nights

this years we are going in April - no more August for me!!!!!

I go every summer with 3 kids and I make sure that i bring a change of clothes to each park, since there is a place that the kids can get wet in I believe all the parks (sprinklers or sidewalk fountains). This way the kids can cool off (and you can sit and rest) for a bit and then be able to change into something dry.

And make sure to drink lots of water!!!

I love going in the summer.

Just go to the parks as early as you can, bring water bottles & hats/visors.

Leave the parks after you have eaten lunch there or before (& eat at your resort).

Rest in your a/c room, swim in the pool with all the other families who are taking breaks too.

Then go back at around dinner time when the sun is going down.

We have gone in August before and loved it. I think by that time we have had enough heat and humidity even up in Massachusetts that it does not really bother us. The rain in the afternoons was the only downside, but we worked around that :sunny:

We ususally go the end of August. The biggest thing to prepare for is the daily rain! Make sure you have something to wear when those showers show up.
