We are going home to WLV mid Dec. and staying in a studio. The only thing I requested when booking was for a non-smoking studio. From what I have read on this forum, you can actually request a specific room close to the date of arrival.
So my question is, if we want a view of the woods or the lake, any particular room #s to ask for. My DW would really love a balcony, and after much convincing to get her to concede to joining DVC I want to make sure our 1st trip home goes beyond her expectations. And also, at what time should I make the room request(how many days in advance).

Not sure specific to VWL, but requests are honored by the date they were made. We make ALL requests at the 11 month window when we book, but we do NOT request specific rooms. It is less likely you will get that. Instead, request that you want a balcony by the woods.

This is not to discourage you but VWL has very few "nice views". We have stayed 3 times and have had 2 different areas. 1st was on the quiet pool side down a ways on the 3rd or 4th floor. 2nd was on the quiet pool side down a ways and on the bottom floor.3rd was by the VWL entrance about 4 rooms over and 3 or 4 floors up. I would rank them 3rd, 1st, then 2nd. We like to keep the drapes open and usually open them when we go to bed so we wake up the that wonderful Florida sunshine. You can't count on that on the 1st floor. We had cm's walk by our room when I still wasn't dressed in the am and we were there 9/11 and a guy was standing in front of our room using his cell phone for the longest time, "way out in the woods". Didn't really care, but I wasn't dressed. Other than that the room was great as we did not have to depend on the elevators. There is also only 1 room that does not have a balcony, and this is the only resort that is like this. Seems like a given you should not have to request, but you may. The only "bad" area I have heard of at VWL is overlooking the dumpsters, so try and stay away from that. VWL is a beautiful resort, my favorite, we own points there so I am a little biased but I'm sure you will have a wonderful time there. You can fax the resort to the "room controller" with your specific requests about 3-4 days prior to arrival. Like someone said they are supposed to give requests according to when requests were made but this is not always true. We recently were at BWV. I made the reservation(was calling every day) on Thursday, we showed up 2 days later on Saturday and I got all 3 requests that I made; BV view, non-smoking, and upper floor. Never would have expected that one. However that like I said is not normal. In fact, that ground floor room we had was obviously a smoking room also so we got NO requests that time. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Last year when we stayed in a studio at VWL, our view was towards the front of the resort. About half way down the hall on the 2nd floor. It looked onto the grounds below (not the dumpsters) and into the woods. One afternoon as DH was sleeping I sat on the balcony and saw a doe and fawn going into the woods. Pretty cool. It is a great resort.
About request. I only asked for non-smoking and non-handicapped and didn't get either. Made reservations at MS opening exactly at 7 months out.
Enjoy your visit.
