I swear that PJ is going to make me gray before my time.
His thing is now climbing. He climbs EVERYTHING. I mean everything. I have little furniture in the apartment but what I have, the kid is all over.
My livingroom, I have a futon and my recliner. Our TV is mounted on the wall and I have a table under it that holds the TV box. He's forever trying to climb onto the table. That's it. I have 3 peices in the livingroom.
His bedroom has a TV on a TV cart. He's forever climbing the cart and standing on it. My bedroom has the computer and my bed. He's now figured out how to scale the bassinette to get onto my bed and he can pull the chair out of hte computer desk and I'll often find him ontop of the desk.
He's my little monkey but I'm so afraid of him hurting himself!

Invest in some baby gates and watch him like a hawk.

I have two of them one in the kitchen and the other for my bedroom.
No one told me about this stage!!!

My oldest started climbing out of crib at 20 months. He's still a big climber. The best thing you can do is give him an outlet elsewhere--take him to a playground or McDonald's Playland (those things kind of gross me out though). We are lucky in that we belong to the Y, and they have all sorts of climbing soft play equipment for kids. Some of the community centers around here have indoor play sessions for kids during the school year. They bring in lots of fun play equipment and it only costs $1 per kid.

P.S. Just curious. Why does an 18 month old need a tv in his bedroom?

It's not plugged in. I have to get it to storage. My husband keeps telling me he's going to hook it up and attach his videogames to it but it hasn't happened yet.
I think this weekend it's going into storage...

I'd get it out ASAP, or at least use anchor brackets to anchor it to the wall (can you do that with a TV? I don't even know.) He can pull it down on himself and be seriously hurt or worse!

Madison is exactly the same way, she climbs on everything and then stands up. Why can't she climb and stay seated!?! Last Wednesday she was standing on the kitchen table in the time it took me to get her socks, which is literally the next room. She climbs onto our rocking chair (by climbing onto the ottoman) then gets up onto the arms or back of the chair and sits on them like she's sitting on a horse. I know that one day she'll lose her balance and fall or the chair will tip over. She knows she's not supposed to be up there, so when she sees me coming she jumps down and sits on the chair the right way.

The problem is that she doesn't understand time out or anything else yet. What do you do when PJ is climbing on something? Well, I'm guessing since you posted this he doesn't listen to you either, like Madison, huh? If you find a solution Diana let me know!

He is quickly approaching the terrible 2s. Anything that he climbs that can tip over needs to be affixed to the wall. Neither one of my kids did much of climbing or getting into cabinets. They both did climb out of their crib once..then they were put in a toddler bed!

I can relate, I have an extremely brave 2-yo climber. It's hard with him, because he had skull surgery, and we're supposed to keep him from falling. Good luck with that! I found my then 18-month old on the kitchen counter one day, he had opened the cabinet and stood on the shelf to pull himself up. He is very determined too, and "can't" isn't in his vocabulary. He tries until he either makes it or falls, and usually he's right back in there.

I would move the TV immediately though, he could pull it and the cart over on himself and get hurt.

My DS9 is/was one of those. CLimbed everything. Numerous stitches, a broken arm, multiple ER visits. Solved it.....he know climbs on our towns rock climbing team. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em- at least they are attached by ropes and his pediatrician is an assistant coach!

I really try very very hard to be consistant with the telling him NO and removing him from the situation as quick as I can. He just cracks up laughing at me though.
Sigh...I'm sure we will both live through this but sometimes I wonder~

Madison sometimes laughs too. The thing is, she's such an obedient kid in every other way, she accepts 'no' for anything other than climbing so I'm at such a loss. We try to be very consistant with stopping it too, but she usually waits till I run in another room or she'll sneak off while I'm doing something and as soon as I go to find her she's up somewhere high! As soon as she sees me she jumps down and acts like she's been sitting properly the whole time, with innocent looking eyes.
