Going from veranda to outside cabin? Crazy talk?

We have to change our cruise from Sept 2016 to April 2016 bc of schedules, which stinks bc we missed the boat (see what I did there?) on the lowest fares.
Because of that, I'm thinking of booking an outside cabin, no veranda, just to keep costs down.
On our previous cruises we've done the HUGE 8A, and a 4D with a veranda both on the Dream.
Am I going to be disappointed with picking a 9C cabins on the Magic?
I think we'll love the ship, and we love the itinerary, but I'm so worried that we'll miss the extra space and veranda.

It'll be myself, DH, our then 6 yr old and almost 3 yr old.

I am probably in the minority but the 3 times I have had a veranda, I rarely used it. I had an ocean view once & didn't miss the verandah. If you think you might feel disappointed enough for it to affect your cruise, then I say spend the extra money. If you think you might feel disappointed but not let it bother you too much, then you should probably save the money. It is a hard choice for sure!

Maybe we are in the minority here also, and we have done Verandahs, inside, oceanview..pretty much everything, and truly don't mind the inside staterooms. We find it helps for those afternoon naps (we are getting older), and we are hardly in the room. We also didn't really use the Verandah, except when pulling into port, and while that was nice, not sure I can say it was worth it.

I'll join the growing minority. While I understand why verandas are appealing to many cruisers, I've never found they were worth the additional cost for us - we just don't spend enough time in the room to make good use of it. I'd rather spend that money on excursions, tastings, etc. But you know your family and your travel style/needs best - if you're really concerned about it, chances are you'll miss it.

I think I'm more concerned with losing the extra space, whether it's inside or out. My DD loved going out on the veranda last time, but we can easily go to the deck and she'd like it just as much.
Maybe I just need someone to tell me it's fine and to just do it. My DH is pretty much game for anything.

You won't get the larger cat 8 rooms on the classic ships, so our 4E that was snagged at a fantastic rate was actually a disappointment with the lack of storage space. We enjoyed 15 nights with DD7 & DS9 in a cat 10 on the Magic, but did have the double trunk back then. Our cruise has never been impacted by which room we were in, however. We aren't in the room much except to change and sleep.

I need the verandahs on my cruises. If I am inside with no external view, then serious motion sickness sets in. As soon as I can see outside I am ok. If I didn't need it for that reason, then like the others, not sure it's really worth the extra cost unless you will utilize it frequently. MDRs and shows are rough for me. Even with Dramamine on board, when I can't see outside, I get very nauseous.

The difference in price on the classics has always been enough that we book inside staterooms. But on the Fantasy, the difference is much less, so we took a balcony and have another booked for 2016 as well. I did some checking just now and this is what I came up with. (These are both with 2 adults and 1 child, age 11.)

OP is asking about doing an outside room, not an inside. There are large portholes in the outside rooms, so a view outside is always possible.

We've had two balcony concierge rooms, one inside room, and one large porthole room. All have been perfectly fine and we didn't miss the other while in the one. While an Inside wouldn't be my first choice in the future, if it's what gets us on the ocean, then an Inside cabin is what it will be.

I guess I should have added the fresh air part about needing a verandah. A porthole room for me I still consider an inside room because I feel confined and not able to go outside for fresh air. My point to the OP was basically if you don't have issues with sea sickness and don't utilize the verandah then the cost of getting a room with one isn't necessary. For some people it's not about wanting one just to say they have one, but for me, it makes the difference in whether I can enjoy the cruise or bow to the porcelain gods lol!

Was just in a verandah cabin on the Fantasy in March and going Friday on the Magic in an oceanview for 2 weeks. Not worried at all.

Wow! Nice comparison. On the wonder to alaska, the difference was striking (didn't matter because DH is afraid of the verandah) but these differences seem more reasonable.

I have found this to be true as well. On a classic ship I'll go inside or oceanview and be pleased as punch. But on the Dream and Fantasy the savings are marginal and we'll sometime splurge for a verandah. That said... I'm always happy with an oceanview. I just don't get enough use out of the verandah that it makes it worth it.

Yep, that's why we didn't even consider a veranda for Alaska, even though we booked it while on board in a veranda room on the Fantasy. The price was ~ $2,000 more than the inside for the 3 of us so we booked the inside instead and had a great time.

We are a family of 4 (the kids are 18 and 15) and we usually get a verandah. We did an extra cruise in Feb and had to go as cheaply as possible so we went with an inside cabin deck 2. I have to say, I didn't hate it. Sure we missed the verandah at times, but we weren't miserable. And even a cheap room got us on the ship, got us all the same food, we saw the same shows, and went to the same ports, AND we got out of the snow for a week. I'd do it again if it meant getting me on the ship.
