Now that the cold weather is quickly approaching Ive been telling myself "only 37 more days till the tropics, think tropics"
But on the return trip it will be bad enough flying out of FL but the weather will be quite frigid when we get off the plane in RI at 930pm at night! Ahhh
How do you handle the quick change in temperature? Do you bring your winter jacket with you all the way to St Marten/St Thomas/Castaway Cay? Or do you have it in your freezing cold car waiting for you? Or what?

We are going on 12/7 and when we return on the 14th I feel like wearing shorts home! This is before hibernating for the winter.;)

I understand your dilema! We leave in two weeks from Ohio and I can tell you I'm wearing sandals and a short sleeve shirt there-regardless of the fact that it will be in the 30's/40's when we leave in the am for the airport. It's all about being ready for that warm weather!

We will leave our winter coats in the car and freeze on our trip back to the car when we return! Just think happy warm weather cruise thoughts as you shiver!

Happy travels!

Barb, You always have the questions that I am thinking about the answers too;) We are leaving at 4a.m. for the airport and I know it's going to be cool. And it's always freezing on the airplane, but I do not like to use the blankets. So we will probably wear a light jacket over our shorts and when we are going home, the same. I think we can deal with the cold for the short time it takes to jump in the car from the airport.

We returned last February to freezing temps in NY. I packed those zip off pants for my children. They had shorts on when we left FL and zipped the bottoms on when we returned. You could even wear a pair of capris, so you're kind of cheating the weather! I enjoyed packing for the opposite weather when we left, but coming back to the cold was tough. At least it breaks up the winter a little. Pack a sweathshirt and make a run for the car! Enjoy your trip!

My DD and I travel to Florida at least 3 times during the winter to see my parents. We leave our coats in the car or with DH and he brings them to the airport when he picks us up. I put my "opposite weather" clothes in our carry-ons and we either change clothes on the plane or in the bathroom when we arrive in FL, or on the way home, in the airport in FL. (I confess that I belong to the US Airways Club so it's a little easier to do in the more private bathroom). I always have a sweater and we carry our own polar fleece mini-blankets so we aren't cold on the plane if we change on board. I will NOT wear shorts on a plane even in the dead of summer; I would freeze.

I like the idea of the zip-offs. DD has a pair that become capris. That may be a good plan for her.

My response will be somewhat opposite the others as I live in Fl. One year we went skiing in Vermont and I had this dilema as well. March in Fl, we were already wearing shorts and tanks but I knew we'd need the coats, etc upon arrival in Vermont. What we did was to wear pants and short sleeve shirts on the plane and we stuffed 2 adult and 2 children's winter down jackets into one large duffle bag. When we got to baggage claim in Vermont, we opened the bag and on went the jackets. We did the reverse when coming home. We wore the same basic outfits (pants and short sleeve shirts) under our warm winter coats. We carried the empty duffle bag in another carryon. Once we arrived at the gate in Vermont we stowed the jackets in the duffle and boarded the plane. Of course, we haven't used those jackets since and I'm sure my children have outgrown theirs already.

Last December we used a layered approach. As an example, I wore a jean mini-skirt with tights, a short sleave tee and a light wool sweater. The wool sweater and tights were taken off after reaching Orlando, and packed away into the carry-ons for the return trip home.

The outfit was a bit light for the return to MN in late December, but we had a good parking space and the car warmed up quickly. :smooth: :smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

I always wear long pants and a lightweight long top for the flight to Florida, pack the coat in the bags for the trip back home but I do pack long pants and a lightweight top for the flight home. When we claim our bags I open them up and take out the coats. Iowa is frigid in January and February! but I love to cruise during those two months. Thinking palm trees as my plants are freezing outside right now! Kathy
