Going for DD's 3rd B-day...Do I really need to get a cake?

We leave on Saturday for DD's birthday trip. We're having breakfast at CRT for dinner and going to Kona Cafe for dinner on her actual birthday. Would I be a terrible mommy if I don't spring for the $100 cake? Is the desert with a candle enough? I mean we are going on a six night Disney trip for her birthday. We're doing cake and ice cream at my parent's house the night before we leave. What do you think? Yay or nay???

ETA: We're not really cake people and there is only 3 of us. There is no way we'll eat all of the cake.

No cake needed, IMHO. I didn't have b-day parties for my kids from ages 2-4. They had a 1 and 5 year old party.

Just make the day special in other ways--which should be easy in Disney. If you want, maybe the restaurant can put some candles in something and sing for her? I'm sure someone has tips, but I've never been around our b-days.

when we took DS for his 3rd bday, we ate lunch at Crystal palace. They had a cupcake for him with a candle, the waiter sang and so did people eating around us. He was thrilled with that. Just mention her birthday when you arrive at restaurant and I am sure they will do alittle something special !! (I almost forgot, there were streamers and confetti on our table too !!)

Skip the cake. We did many birthdays at WDW and only had a cake at 2 of the. *and* the cake was a LOT less than $100. Even the special one I ordered from the GF bakery.

What are you talking about? YOU ARE HAVING a CAKE!!! You said you are having cake at Grandmas so you are having a cake. How many cakes does a 3 year old need? We live across the country from both our families, you can probably count on one hand missing a few fingers how many birthday cakes my kids have had on their actual birthday. My DD will be 18 in a few weeks and she had her first birthday cake on her actual birthday last year. her birthday is right around Christmas so we are usually travelling on her actual birthday and just have her cake when we get to ?Grandmas and then usually a few days after that even.

If it makes you feel better get her a cupcake on the actual day but she already had her cake and a wonderful disney trip, she is a very lucky little girl.

Don't even get me started on the I'm a terrible mommy statement or I may have to smack you!!!

The fact that you're going to CRT on her actual birthday is a very special thing you're doing for her actual birthday. No cake needed.

We usually have dinner/cake with my parents, siblings, and nieces on a day that's convenient. That is their birthday party with cake even though it doesn't always fall on their actual birthday. If it doesn't we will have their favorite dinner and dessert, but not another cake.

My youngest just turned 3 in May. He had no idea whether that was really his birthday or not.

We are traveling to WDW in two weeks for our dd's 5th birthday and we will not be ordering a special cake.

I looked into it and as pretty as they are and as tempting as it is to order one, the cost was prohibitive and our dd really will be completely happy with the b-day cupcake the restaurant provides. We will have dinner at GF with Cinderella on her actual birthday.

What clinched the decision for me was that numerous people on the cake thread said the cake was beautiful but the taste was not great or just okay. We have a large party (7 of us and two teen boys), so consuming a cake is not a problem for our group. But for the price, I want it to taste great and look great!

Just ask at the restaurant if they can put a candle in her dessert or buy her a cupcake from the bakery. She's 3 and she'll be at disneyworld, so I'm sure she'll be happy no matter what.

We're flying to Miami the day of my son's 2nd birthday so he won't be getting a cake either.

I voted no also. It is so easy to get caught up in the excitement of doing something special

And i agree, the cakes can be amazing!

But, (you knew there was a but right? ) you are going to Disney!!!!!! What is more special than that?

Plus the logistics of actually having a cake and then what to do with it and it is a huge cake!

Have an awesome time and use that money to buy a lifetime souvenier

We got a really nice cake for DD6's birthday at Chef mickey's and it was only $51. I say either let cake at grandma's be it, or skip the cake there and get something a little more reasonable at disney.

I voted "no cake," but I'm very biased because all of my boys dislike cake. For years, I've been making them the birthday cutout cookies of their choice, which they love! Anyway, there are lots of fun alternatives to cake everywhere, especially at WDW! Have fun and Happy Birthday to your little one!

We took my DD to Chef Mickey for her 3rd birthday. I was so sure she needed a cake so I called ahead and ordered one for her (do not remember how much but am sure it was noot $100).
Well after it was all said and done, we did not need a cake and she could care less about the cake and barely ate any of it! Plus they bring you a cupcake if you do not order a cake.....which I wish we would have done!

Oh gosh.. don't be silly. No cake. Seriously. Get her a nice yummy cupcake or yummy dessert, stick a candle on it, and there ya go. Especially because she's 3, if she asks about a cake which I don't think she will, just tell her it's *extra* special to have a cupcake/dessert/baked potato.

Oh-- but if you absolutely *need* a cake, and you just happen to get groceries delivered (i.e. Wegoshop) just get a cake from the grocery store added on to your order for a fraction of the price. Even if you don't get groceries delivered, it's still worth the delivery fee to have a cake delivered at a fraction of the Disney price.

I'd skip the cake, but since you are going to CRT, why not order the slipper dessert? We ordered it justbecause, it was beautiful, delicious and only $15. They will write Happy Birthday ***** on it for you too. It's very memorable and inexpensive and made for some great pictures!
