I am thinking about adding on, but I'm torn about something. If you plan on going every other year, isn't it better to have fewer points than you need as opposed to more points than you need. Of course, you would need to borrow points. But if you have more points than you need, wouldn't you end up losing a few points every other year--since you won't be returning that next year. The few points banked would be lost if not used the next year, right? I'm just trying to decide how many to add on.

If you go the first year and then borrow from the next year, you can then bank the next year's points into the following year and use those for your vacation. There may come a time when you will need to go in consecutive years in order to use your points.

I would rather have a few more points than I need than not enough points. Disney may adjust the point charts in the future, and the cost of my usual accommodation might go up a few points. Admittedly, by having too many points, I might have to plan a longer trip, or upgrade from my usual accommodation, or go during a more expensive season. But I would rather deal with those "problems" than try to deal with rent or transferring points in order to complete a reservation.

With an every other year plan, you need to make sure that the year you are banking points is the year you don't go.

For example, if you go in 2009, you would want to use 2009 and borrowed 2010 points. In 2010, you would then bank any points you did not yet use into 2011. In 2011, you would use the banked, current year, and any 2012 borrowed points you would need.

What you might find, is that you are able to do an extra night or better accommodations every other trip!

Good luck!

Thanks, everyone!!! Now I get it. I guess the only time this way would be a problem is if I had to cancel since I would be using some banked and some borrowed points. But I'll worry about that if it ever happens. Thanks again!
