I'm going down to Mississippi from June 24-July 2 on a mission trip with some people from my church. I'm really excited to be able to help out.

Thank you for volunteering in my neck of the woods! If you would like to meet for a iced tea or something please pm me.

I just got back from my trip. I hope you will be as blessed as I was! We are already planning to go back.

If you will be in Gulfport and are going out to dinner, hunt up Catfish Charlie's. It was yummy!

 Sadie!

My family once had a vacation home in Pass Christian-right below the overpass. It was sold the year before Hurricane Betsy(1965ish I think), and destroyed. I have such wonderful memories of the area,

annegal, When our family first started coming to this area we lived in New Orleans and spent weekends and the summer here in the Pass. A lot of our neighbors still live in NOLA and have a summer place on the coast.

if you are ever in this area please pm me so we can say hi.

DVC Sadie - I'm going to Beau Rivage when it opens back up, and hope we can meet up.

I'm not a big gambler at all, but I love the spa there and the view from the Gulf side rooms is so beautiful.

come on down, but, make sure you bring mosquito spray and sun block :teeth: depending on where you will be, one or both will be a must :rotfl: I hope you have a safe trip down, and I will say thank you in advance, the MS gulf coast was once one of the most beautiful places around, IMHO :teeth: and it will be again!!!!!!!

arminnie, just tell me where and when and I'll be there! I know where but you understand I just had to go there. :rotfl:

I agree the view from the Beau or anywhere on the Gulf side is beautiful.

.

Would you believe Mary Mahoney's French House restaurant-across the street from The Beau is open for buisness??!! :)

Sadie,,,I'm originally from Metairie & we did the weekend thing to the Vacation House too, as kids. :)

GET OUT! Mary Mahoney's is open already? That's good to hear. Sad that I have to learn of the redevelopment and openings on the internet when I live about 200miles north in Jackson, MS! All we hear about up here is how bad FEMA messed up with the money :sad2: . Hardly ever hear about the positive things going on down there.

I know! We were simply AMAZED!!!

This was 2 weeks ago.
There were no restaurants or gas stations open from Pass Christian to Biloxi-saw maybe 2 small motels open...so we drove to Beau Rivage & it was being worked on-the Hard Rock got hit very hard (Hurricane hit right before it opened) -no workers on site...then we look across the street-it was noon-ish-and people were going into Mary Mahoney's! :)

BTW-her restaurant was featured in two of John Grisham's novels.

Mary Mahoney's has been open for awhile Vital.

Vrazels on highway 90 in Gulfport is also open for business and looks exactly the same as before. I love Vrazels too. The food is yummy and their bread is scrumptous. Vrazel's was right across the street from The Gulfport Grand which was totally destroyed by Katrina.

That's weird! We stopped in Vrazel's parking lot to take pics of the houses behind it. I was wondering if they would ever open again. I know we shouldn't have taken pics, but I was trying to convey to the ppl here in central MS how bad it really was down there. I felt like I was on sacred ground when I was down there that day. We lost power for a few days, some longer than others, and it was an inconvienence for us along with the gas ordeal, but absolutely NOTHING compared what y'all went through. I just keep telling ppl here they have to see it to believe it, even almost a year later! Do you have any suggestions about where to stay along the coast for a karate tournament in July at Pascagoula high school?

PS Are you ready for another Boxer yet? ;)

Oh vital, I am so ready for another Boxer but my dh wants to wait a bit since we will be moving out of our trailer and into a new (to us) house next week. We just went to settlement last week and are so excited. It will take awhile (years?)to furnish the home but we don't care since we will have so much space.

I have not seen any of the hotels on highway 90 (beach road) open as of yet. The Beau is opening soon and so are some other casinos. we plan on driving down 90 tomorrow so I will look to see whats what and get back to you.

We too were so glad to see Vrazel's reopen and especially happy to have Bill Vrazel back in the kitchen where he belongs. Both the atmosphere and the food is excellent.

Thanks to all of you who have come down to help us since the storm. I have lived here all my life in my beautiful Biloxi.

Mary Mahoneys opened within a couple of months after the storm. She's battered, but up. The most wonderful thing that has happened for us is the re-opening of The Old Biloxi Schooner restaurant. Originally on the point, it is now on Howard Ave. between Caillavet and Reynoir Streets (across from Nativity BVM Cathedral). Fantastic gumbo and po-boys. Only opened during the week at lunch (10:30-3:00). As with many things there, not enough workers. And, no, I'm not related to them! Just felt as though Biloxi was back while I was eating there!

The Beau is slated to open on August 29th.

Come see us!

As for open hotels on the beach...The Isle of Capri hotel is open along with the Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, and several mom & pop inns. Look closely, they are battered, but what was left of those hotels is open.
