I went to buy some goggles and snorkel gear today and ended up not getting any because I wasn't sure if they work with glasses. Does anyone know of a brand of goggles that fits over glasses? I know that Bolle has them for ski goggles but I'm not sure of the waterproof kind. I can't wear contacts so this is definitely a problem.

I did a google search and all I found was prescription snorkel equipment. I don't think they make snorkel equipment that you can use with glasses because of the waterproof.

A google for goggles? ;)

I don't think you can wear a mask with glasses. You need a good seal to keep the water out.

Look into prescription ones.

Prescription goggles can be expensive. There is a company that sells corrective lense masks and goggles over the counter, fairly inexpensive. They come in 3 strengths. Mild Medium and Strong
They are called Body Glove Optical Corrective Goggles for Nearsighted swimmers. I purchased them direclty from the manucturer (which is not Body Glove) Leisure Pro (www.leisurepro.com). You can find them listed for $10.95 for the goggles and $59.95 for the mask.

You may find them in Sports Authority, where we got our original pair on sale.

I must tell you, these are the best thing since baked bread. After trying to wear glasses under masks, over goggles, even glueing an old pair of lenses to the front of a mask, these work just perfect.

Mike - How did you know which strength to order? I mean I think I'm personally blind as a bat but perhaps Strong would be too strong for me......in any event, thanks for the link. I'm going to have to stop and really think if it's going to be worth the $$$ for me to buy them for just one snorkeling event.

When we went to Sports Authority, they only had one pair ina medium, my daighter needed them for a swim meet, but they worked fine for me too.

If you know your prescription, this might help

Mild -0.50 to -2.0
Medium -2.25 to -4.0
Strong -4.25 to -6.0

I just did a quick search, and found this site http://www.divingezone.com/.sc/ms/cat/1032987946/9/nc/Mask--Prescription Mask. They have a selection of inexpensive masks there for $20-$46, and you can select from a wide range of prescriptions separately for each eye. This is very nice, as my eyes have very different prescriptions and I'm sure others' do as well. There would be absolutely no point in my snorkeling without a prescription mask, as I'm extremely nearsighted without glasses, so I will probably get one of these.

Bostonlass, you should be able to get your prescription from your optometrist - mine gives me a little card with my prescription(s) on it.

Bostonlass - When we were in Hawaii on a snorkel excursion they had these plastic boxes with a clear glass on the bottom. You could put the box down into the water and see into it. It's hard to describe, but it was like having your own glass bottom boat. You couldn't dive down since it would fill with water, but you could stay on the surface and see into the water. My DW who doesn't swim too well also used one that was attached to a raft. I saw one this winter for sale somewhere but I can't remember where.

This would allow you stand up in shallow water and see things below. Maybe someone on these boards knows more about these things and where they can be purchased.

Oh yea - Remember the TV show Flipper? I remember the boys would put one of these over the side of the boat the see what Flipper was up to. :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Carla - Thanks so much! Those prices are much more reasonable! I will call my optometrist Monday to get my numbers.

Scottopia - Thanks! I do want to go snorkeling though so I think I'll opt for Carla's suggestions but that's good info to know!
