I apologize if this has been answered a million times but I am traveling and don't have access to a computer to search and its hard from my phone. I am going to have an unexpected day in DL on Thursday, not even a full day- but from opening until around dinnertime. Staying off-site.

Priority is GoG. What is the best way to do this? FP first or ride first and then FP? Is there a trick (like wide-ride with Cars) to get to the ride quicker?

Thanks for any tips!

I don't know any tricks, but both the FP and standby lines form in Hollywoodland before rope drop. If you purchase MP, you may be able to get a FP for GotG while in the standby line for the ride. That way you can get an early ride with no wait AND a FP with an early return time.

And to clarify, you can book your first FP with MP BEFORE rope drop (but after you have entered the park and purchased MP).

I was taking advantage of the Extra Magic Hours, and we went on the ride first, then got FP immediately after, and it was a few minutes after park opening. I would say the line did die down a little towards the end of EMH, but once the park opened, the line grew and was long. I would say that you should be there right at park opening if you want to ride it multiple times with minimal wait. My strategy would be grab a Fast Pass and jump in the standby line. At park opening, the line will not have grown very long. Grabbing a fast pass might put you five minutes behind on the standby line, but you will have a fast pass for early in the day. If the fast pass is for less than 2 hours away, then once you use it, you should be able to get one more fast pass for later in the day.

Grab the fast pass right when the park opens and then get in the stand by line depending on the fast pass return time. On Sunday, we were meeting a group at the front of the park. Stand by was about 15 minutes according to the app, but by the time everyone used the restroom, etc and we walked over, it was a 60 minute wait.

You won't have EMH to deal with on a Thursday, if you are there at rope drop I would do standby immediately at opening and then grab a FP for a second ride. But the FP and standby entrances are right next to each other so you can make a judgement call at the last second and grab a FP first if that looks better. Either way you should be able to get two rides in early.

If possible try to get to the park like 30 min-a hour early to ensure you get an early time.
