Don't get me wrong -- I love the fall, but all the dang bears are driving me insane!!! DW and DS8 just went out the front door to go to soccer and and ran smack into a sow and two cubs on the stepd leading to the driveway. We've seen so many bears this fall it's just crazy. So we had to stand out on the back deck banging pots to get them to go away. The cubs were very cute (a cinnamon and a black), but get out of my yard!!!!

DW left and went to practice and just called and she saw them trying to get into the garage of our neighbors house behind us.

Plus, my neighbor across the street just last night to warn me of the mountain lion that was in their yard.

C'mon Old Man Winter. Lets at least put the bears to bed...

Man and I though the rabbits that ate all of our landscaping last winter were bad :scared1:

The DIS is making me never want to leave Iowa. All these stories about bears, mountain lions, poisonous snakes and spiders.. sheesh. The only thing I have to worry about here is avoiding deer on the highway.

Oh! Please post some pictures!!! I would love to see them!!! We don't have bears in Alabama!!!

Wow, and I thought it was bad that I spent ten minutes trying to shoo a lizard out of my apartment tonight so the cat wouldn't 'play' with it!

I would love to see a bear in the wild...perhaps not in my yard, but if you have pictures, I'd love to see!

Bears ...yikes! And I wanted winter so I didn't have to keep weeding my garden.

And floods... and tornados...and crummy cold winters... and... well, nevermind.

I'm sure their beautiful but I would be to scared to ever leave my house:scared1:;)

Hoping you have snow very soon.

It was just starting to get to dusk, so it wasn't great light for taking pictures from a distance. I took this one from the upper deck from about 30 feet. I had to lighten it up to see him, so he doesn't look very cinnamon, but he was. This is one of the cubs. He was trying to climb the tree , but we banged on pots to get him to keep moving.

Ugh, you reminded me why I'm happy in Maryland and don't want to move to Alaska! Hubby loves it out there and has seen several bears, all of them on the base we'll be going to. He's also seen the moose.. and from what I hear they're more dangerous. Apparently he's seen them "a couple hundred times". I'm happy with my neighborhood.. where I see cats and dogs, and the barn where I see deer!

at my aunt's house... my dad tried to help out. he hung the birdfeeder at about 11 feet. the next day it was on the ground.

Moose can be very dangerous, but mainly when people are stupid and don't realize how dangerous they are. We've had three bear attacks in Colorado this summer, so the DOW is recommending making a lot of noise and scaring them off rather than just letting them quietly wander through. I've seen a lot of bears in August and September and this is the second time I've seen this family group. Normally, they wouldn't bother me and most of the time they are way down in the bottom of my yard (we've got an acre), but today they were right up by the house checking out the garage and one found a soda cup that blew in today with the heavy wind and had torn it open to get to the sweet drippings inside.

Personally, the mountain lion from the night before is a lot scarier. They blend in so well and can strike at you before you know what happened. They have also been known to make a snack of your pets as well.

I put the "Bear Bar" on the sliding glass door downstairs just to be safe.

We moved from NC to WA last year.

I was so used to the sounds of owls, frogs, and LOTS of bugs. Now I have coyotes howling all night long. We don't open our windows (even though it is cool now) because we can't sleep from all the "children of the night". lol

Awww... He looks so cuddly though! I love bears but would not want to meet one in a dark forest. We get the bears coming into the city from the mountains here mainly in the spring after a dry winter. They all wake up hungry and when it's been dry, there's no food for them. Airplanes will drop dog food over the mountains to feed them and keep them up there and not down here.

Many years ago a bear got electrocuted after climbing up a utility pole. Everyone here followed the story that had a very happy ending. You can watch what happened here:

The critter camera DH set up on our property up north took this picture of a bear, the one that is in my signature. I named him "Bernard." :D We don't have bears at home, but apparently we do up north.

Cute bears! But I know they must be a little scary! OP, where was your signature photo taken? It reminds me of Hawaii!
