Monday June 20th 2011 and Tuesday June 21st 2011
Well the day was finally here after over 8 months are planning I was off to Heathrow and the Crowne Plaza for the night. Before I left I did on line check in and got my pre allocated seat of 6A so all was looking good. I left home just after 1.30pm and arrived at 3.15pm, so a good drive up
After checking in I moved my car to a more remote location in the car park as it would be there for the next three weeks. It was then time for a swim, after which I showered and then went to the 'pub' in the hotel for something to eat. Feeling like a traditional meal I had the fish and chips then went back to my room for an early night.
I was awake just before my alarm at 5.30am and was on my way to Terminal 3 by just after 6am. Once at the Virgin Atlantic check in area I went straight to the Upper Class desk and was immediately checked in and told to use the private security channel to get to the departure lounge. The private security channel was empty and I breezed through and went into the departure lounge. As the Clubhouse does not open until 7am I had a quick look in the shops and then went to wait for the Clubhouse to open.
It duly opened at 7am and I was the first in and got my 1/2 hour massage booked for 9.45am. By now my stomach was rumbling so off to the restuarant I went for the full breakfast.
After this I had a wander around the lounge.
Soon it was time for my massage, which was once again a nice way to start the journey. As is tradition I had to have the champagne with smoked salmon and scrambled egg!
By now time was ticking on and soon the announcment came to board the flight. Once again it was a long walk to gate 17. But it was nice to by pass the long queue and go straight through and onto the Upper Class boarding ramp
Soon I settled in my Upper Class suite and had a pre flight glass of champagne. We took off on time and soon pre dinner drinkies were offered. Then it was time for the starter - Pea and basil risotto with seared king prawns and parmesan cheese
Then the main course - Seared fillet of salmon with a chervil, vermouth and tomato sauce served on a pillow of crab and mascapone and string vegetables
Finally dessert - Lemon tiramisu wedge with lemon zest syrup
We were now only just passing the Hudson Bay
As the flight was a long one I soon started to read my book, Peter James, and couldn't put it down! The time passed fairly quickly and then it was time for afternoon tea
Then I had finished my book! By now we were over Colorado
So it was time for a wander to the bar and a pleasant chat with fellow flyers and the crew. We landed in LA about 20 minutes ahead of schedule then it took ages to get through Immigration, but my luggage came off quite quickly
Soon I was out of the airport and on my way to the Candy Cane Inn.
