Go to the parks if calling for rain?

We are headed to Disney the first week of February and I am hoping we don't get much rain. For those that have been there when it called for rain, did you venture to the parks or call it a relax day? Thanks.

I guess it depends on how much you hate to get wet, but a rainy day can be fun in a park. First off, the rain will scare off a lot of people and the lines can be considerably smaller that day. When I was on my honeymoon in '96, we were in Epcot and used an umbrella all day. I guess since Future World has so many larger pavillions, we didn't really mind the rain. Sure, we got a little wet, but here I am 10 years later and that is the day I remember the most.

When we were there in October, it rained EVERY day....sometimes in the morning then it would get sunny....sometimes it would start sunny and POUR
in the evening....we just kept our ponchos in the backpack in ziplock bags and kept on going...never once did it stop us!! Just be prepared for it. We don't let anything spoil our day, its always better than being at work!!! :rotfl:

Right on!! I had the exact same experience here in Canada...but with me, it was 20yrs ago and it was at Paramount Canada's Wonderland. Of all the visits I had made there over the years...it's the only one I vividly remember and I had a blast.

Heck yeah!! Previous posts are right on....it will definitely scare people back to their rooms. While masses of people are huddled under overhangs our family runs over to the rides with the typically longest lines and get right in! Just be prepared, I live in FL and remember it can downpour for 15 mins and then be perfectly sunny the rest of the day. Do yourself a favor and buy ponchos ahead of time. Where you can get them for two bucks at home, they charge eight at Disney. Multiply that by all your family members and you will be weeping as you pass over your precious vacation cash.

yea you won't get much rain. another month that rains a lot is in may. it rained 6 out of 7 days we sayed there!

I have gone to WDW in September, which is the rainy season, many times.

I hate rain, especially on vacation, but when it rains at WDW, I put on rain gear and keep going. Most of my favorite attractions are indoors anyway, and the rain does tend to decrease the park crowds.

One thing to think about - if you look at the forcast and the rain is expected to continue steadily all day, don't just take a plastic poncho and call it done. Continuous rain means you need long pants and some means of warmth; even in September I was wearing long pants to keep the A/C in the buildings from freezing me solid!

the parks are awesome it when it is raining, like everyone else has said the parks are pretty empty. we just bring our wear our ponchos. the only thing that stinks is walking around in wet sneakers. i have tried crocs, they are just not comfortable for me. last trip i wore my flip flops so my sneakers would not get drenched, but they were very slippery in the rain. so it looks like next trip i will have to get use to wet sneakers in the parks.

We were at MK when the rain started and stayed for hours. After buying up the needed ponchos, we walked around to see what rides we could still do and there were plenty of indoor attractions. After the girls splashed in every visible puddle and got chilled, my DH surprised us by bringing us to a restaurant that served clam chowder in a bread bowl. Although my girls were quite young, they still remember the best soup they ever had was served in a bread bowl!

I would go too. It didn't rain very long when we were there, so the entire day wasn't a washout. Don't know about the roller coasters at WDW, but I swore The Beast was much faster at Kings Island after it rained.

i think u should still go to the parks cuz when it rains no on is in the parks which means...NO LONG LINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one time i went w/ my fam and it rained all day but we still had fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Run, run run :umbrella: to the dollar store and pick up rain ponchos before you leave. Disney is just too expensive to let a little rain spoil your trip. Just for luck I'll send a little pixie dust pixiedust: your way so it won't rain on your vacation. Have a good time.

;) Or...you could be one of the many who stay away on rainy days so there are no lines for the rest of us. :rotfl2:

Just kidding.

Be prepared for rain. The lines will be shorter and you will have loads of fun. Bring extra shoes and quarters for drying the wet ones.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but can any recent visitors confirm what color ponchos WDW is selling at the present?

We have experienced the downpours at WDW and agree that attendance goes down. What we had not planned on was everyone wearing the same colored ponchos. If our kids got ahead of us, they blended in with all of the others. We now mark the backs of our ponchos the family is identifiable.

Last year WDW switched to clear ponchos, so it's much easier to identify your family in the rain now, because your regular clothing shows through.

if you think it might rain bring thouse wind breaker rain jakets that fold into a pocket and carry them or you can get ponchos. but even if its raining go! the crowds are usualy down and so many of the rides are indoors anyway. the day it rained las trip was my first time on the astro orbitor, we were the only people. lol ;)

I say go just wear sandals so your feet down get soaked in sneakers.

And the Mickey Ponchos were clear in October.

I love rain at disney!!! RAIN=RIDES!!!!!!!!!!! All the weaklings go home and leave the die hards the right of way!!!!!!!!!
