I'm big into taking pictures, Here is my problem. I have a good 35MM and a really nice Digital Camcorder, and a okay Digital camera. I was thinking of upgrading to a newer digital camera for the trip and just in general. Should I just take the Digital camera and maybe the camcorder. I talked to a friend and they suggest using the 35MM and just make a digital CD at walmart or someplace like that. I like the Digital bacause I can see the pictures right away. And I was thinking of sending them to Ofoto.com and having prints made up.

What is your opinion. I don't want to have to lug the 35mm and the digital around.

I didn't want to lug my 35mm around the parks either. I borrowed a nice compact digital camera from a friend and since I had my laptop with me (great for long stopovers in airports) I downloaded pics everynight in hotel room. Which also gave me the chance to email them home to DH!!

Did you have them printed and if so how did they come out. I have normally printed my own and they come out OK but this trip is my son's 1st and I really want great pictures. I was thinking the camera I want to buy is a 4 megapixel camera so the quality should be good and then I would have them printed at target, walmart ofoto etc.

I went digital ... bought a Canon G3 and love it ... although I do miss the "manual" zoom on my SLR.

What I really like is that I don't have to worry about my film going thru the airport scanner or being harassed b/c I ask for a handcheck of my film. And it's great to see my photo immediately.

We brought a digital Canon - ELPH on our last trip. It worked great. I loved seeing the photos right away and not worrying about having enough film. The ELPH is so small that I take it everywhere with me.

My DD 10 got a cheap digital camera for christmas and this was wonderful. On past trips she has wanted to take photos so we got her disposable cameras. We would pay to get the photos developed and half the pictures were junk! On this trip she took pictures of everything and we didn't care. She really liked taking them of the animals on the safari.

I uploaded the pictures to Snapfish and they sent me the pictures.

I have a 35mm, APS and digital and I don't even carry the other two anymore. We keep them in the diaperbag just incase there are shots when we don't have the digital. Last trip I took over 340 digital pictures, or at least that is what I ended up with and they are just as good as any 35mm I have taken. You didn't say what your current digital is rated as far as MP. I mine is 3.2 and makes great prints up to 8X10 and that is printed at home and I have had people ask me who took the photos. You should see their face when I say I did and printed it myself. I am fixing to go with a 5MP and get rid of the 3.2MP (not even a year old yet) just so I can make even bigger prints and get a little better quality. For me there is no going back to film cameras. In fact I just picked up a cheap digital for my DD6, she has a 35mm but she isn't that great at taking the best shots yet so I was wasting a lot of money on film and processing. Now I will be able to just print out the good ones for here and delete the rest and she's off again.

If you decide to go digital, consider taking a picture of your group at the beginning of each day. If someone gets separated from your group, then you will have a picture of the person to show others. And, you can take a picture of your contact information so that you if you lose your camera, someone will be able to contact you to return it.

I would definitely go with the digital camera. For years I would only use film, last year I jumped into the digital world. I bought a 6.3MP camera and now I will never go back to film. I find that the photos come out much better. Digital cameras seem to have better latitude than film, they are much better in low-light conditions, and are also far more forgiving. I very rarely print the photos at home, I just being the CF card to Walmart go get them printed. The quality is great because it comes right from their minilab machine – on the same paper that they print film reprints from. I believe that they only charge .27 per photo. At the end for me it was all about the cost. After the initial expense of the digital equipment, you don’t have to pay for anything except if you want to print the photos. Good Luck!

If you've got small kids - you've got to go digital. You have the ability to take a million pictures and only get prints of the ones you like. And if you have an LCD, you get immediate feedback on whether it turned out ok. No more waiting til the roll is developed to discover that their eyes were closed on every shot!

I LOVE taking pics, especially at Disney. I bring the both cameras with me, but only bring the digital out with us. I bring the 35mm for just in case. I love being able to see right away that the pic of my kids with their favorite character will come out, and not find out when we get home that someone's eyes were closed or whatever. When we get home, I put my digital card into the machine at Walmart and just select the ones I want and print out for 1-hour. Works great! I've also ordered pics using shutterfly.com.

One other thing I like about digital is that I can use the pictures immediately when I get home to burn a CD for friends and relatives and also burn a memory CD that will play on a DVD player. That way when folks come over and want to see the pictures, just pop it in and watch it on TV. Hundred's of photos and they take up no more space than any other CD, no big album or multiple pouchs to fumble through and store.

I know one way or another I want the newer digital camera. I will also be bringing these to walmart or someplace like that. I want them to be on good paper so they last. I have until tomorrow to purchase the camera since the rebate date has to be by the 31 of March. Thank you so much for all of your opinions. I supose I just had to convince myself to spend the money. I'm sure I will love it once I have it in my hands :)

Bought a Canon Digital Rebel last year. With this, film is dead. It takes all my EOS lenses and flash. I take alot of sports pictures and this camera is amazing, instant focusing, instant firing. Now with my trip to WDW in June I'm thinking of going with my Olympus C3000, Canon A1 waterproof and my Rebel Ti 35mm. The Digital Rebel costs to much to worry about rain and it bouncing through a park.

New to the digital world and planning on buying a digital before our WDW trip. However, I'm concerned about the memory cards and how many I'll actually need. It seems the more mp the less pictures on the card. What do you suggest? Thanks.

Depends on what you do with the pictures. If you're going to crop and blow up the pictures then you may want to go higher in regards to MP's. For most regular shots 2.2 mp is fine and there is alot of 3 mp cameras in the affordable level. Now once you've done that you can buy different size cards. I have a 6.3 mp camera that I have a 256 card for. Holds 135 pictures a the "large" setting. I have a point and shoot 3.3 digital that holds 35 pictures on a 64 card on the SHQ setting. If you go with a 3 mp camera and invest in a 256 card you'll have anywhere from 130 - 260 pictures depending on the picture quality setting.

Our digital cam + laptop has become a major feature of our trips. We shoot pictures all day (tons and TONS of picts) and then watch a slide show of them in our room at night. Its great fun. I especially like feeling free to take as many picts as I want (I have several memory cards and a second set of rechargable batteries). The quality is great. The only draw back I have found so far is that I am slow to get real prints made. But I don't bother with a 35mm at all any more.

I used to carry my 35mm everywhere and then I got my first digital and carried them both. Now I'm on my third digital camera upgraded each time) and it's the only one I carry with me. In fact, I haven't taken my 35mm with me on my last three trips - digital all the way!

Like others, I take a bunch of pictures and I really like being able to see the picture right away and only printing the ones I like.

The only reason I keep my 35mm, well actually APS, camera is going to be for those shots when I have someone take our photo. I have numerous shots that others have taken with the digital and they are fuzzy because they didn't allow for the small delay in taking the shot. Of course with so many people going digital now, maybe this won't be as much of an issue. Plus if they decide to run off with it (think European Vacation) then they won't have my expensive digital.

We are leaving for Disney in 12 days and this will be the first trip I take with my Sony 5.0MP camera. I'm concerned with the delay and concerned that I may miss something while I wait the few seconds for the photo to store to memory. (I hope I'm making myself clear).

Has anyone experienced this? I'm considering bringint a 35MM camera as well just in case.

Lucky978,
Since you are familiar with the camera, you will do fine with it because you know the delay is there, I have a Sony camera as well. One hint that I do, is when taking photos of the characters is to keep your position with the camera until you know the picture is taken and then say something like "OK, Thank you". If they see you move in any way while taking the picture they will assume it is done and start to move, result, blurry picture. Also, when taking photos of others on rides, pick a spot and go ahead and auto focus and then wait for them to come around again and snap.
