Go Away Gustav

where are yall going? are there any rooms available anywhere? im wanting to leave but from here to arkansas is full. I looked for rooms as far as memphis and it wasnt promising...tomorrow im calling disney and trying to switch my dates to this week instead of oct 1, I would pack up and leave tomorrow if they had rooms available. :) hey if one good thing can come out of this...this would be it :thumbsup2

Well it's official. Gustav is now a Catagory 3. He has a long ways to come too, doesn't look like this one is going to fizzle.

What are you hearing? :confused3

Local news affiliate (Near Philadelphia, PA). It will make Landfall at at least a CAT 3. Depending on the temp of the water it could go to CAT 4 ---too soon to tell. From what I understand FEMA has ordered evacuation of the prior FEMA trailers given to famlies after Katrina.

Path is slightly to the west of New Orleans...but close enough that it could have a significant impact on the city...again. :confused3

What are they telling you on your end?

Well it's now a Cat 4 storm and gaining strength. The gulf waters are warm. Landfall predictions are still to the west of New Orleans. This can potentially be very bad for us, because the worst side of the storm is the northeastern side and that is where we are if it keeps the current prediction path. Hoping for the best, but we're prepared just in case! :goodvibes

I'm here in Lafayette and there is now a voluntary evacuation. I think I may take the kids and go with some friends to Tyler, TX. My DH may stay and take care of the house. He's at our rent house getting it ready, then he'll be home to board our house up. We live on the south side of Laf. near Vermillion Parish. I am starting to get more and more worried. Please keep us and all of the gulf coast in your prayers.

So scarey. Good luck and stay safe...we will be watching it closely too. We won't be evacuating, but we will "batten down the hatches" for sure. If it gets bad, I'll take some pics and post them here on the Dis. I took lots of pics of our area after Katrina, but lost them when my computer crashed. :)

I am in Iberia Parish and we are under mandatory evacuation. We have to be gone by 7am. Please pray for the ones who refuse to leave.

We'll be praying for you, as well as everyone who doesn't leave. We are leaving in the morning, too. Drive safely.

I too hope everyone is safe. Not that my house is the lap of luxury, but if anyone needs shelter I have a warm, safe, dry, house in IN.

I am in southern Arkansas and can't get any better news than the weather channel....

Has the local weather down there said where Gustav is predicted to come on land? I am originally from Morgan City and my dad and brother are still there and are not planning on leaving....

If someone can tell me something I would appreciate it!

They dont really know for sure yet where it will land. If Im right , Morgan city is St. Mary Parish. They have a mandatory evacuation.
They seem to be thinking right now it will come in to the east of Atchafalaya Bay. Looks like it will head up Last Isle.. Cocodrie area. Its huge so Morgan City will get alot of it too. I know I would leave Morgan city in a heatbeat..
THose darn hard headed cajuns lol! ( i can say that cuz i am one, I grew up in New Iberia lol!)

I imagine you must be a wreck!

Thank you for letting me know something!

My dad is a stubborn pain in the hind end that will not listen to me about leaving. I have a perfectly good, empty room he can stay in but he decides to wait it out. The only storm he has ever left for was Andrew. He says he'll call if he gets blown away....fathers....what do you do with them?!

If you find out anything else I would greatly appreciate it if you could keep me posted!!!

Ill let you know, ill have internet access where I am going.
Packing like a mad woman and heading out in a few hours for a friends house.

Well I think we are as ready as we'll ever be. Still hoping that it will turn before it hits the coast. Still a little nervous though!

Well it's a little after 4am, DH left for work and I am a relieved that the current conditions are ok for him to drive. I wonder if he will be stopped by the police though, we are under a mandatory curfew, no one allowed out past 10pm last night. He has proper documentation for work though so it shouldn't be a problem, just a pain the the behind.

Right now it's eerie. Not really raining, the wind is blowing some but not too bad. They are saying the we will start to feel Tropical Storm force winds soon and of course rain soon. The eye of the storm is about 80 miles out right now. Keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers that we'll all make out all right. I am feeling little nervous now that DH has left, but feel confident that we will be safe. Just have to stay calm for the kids.

I am praying for everyone, I am in the UK, so no real idea of what a real hurricane feels like, although if Hanna gets stronger and hits Florida I may do, I am so teary reading that everyone has to evacuate, I cannot imagine what you are going through

Although we had a 5.7 earthquake a few months ago, only 5 seconds or so but that was scary

Prayers to everyone and please stay safe

xxx

My thoughts and prayers go out to all those in Gustav's path! Let's hope for as little damage as possible. Be safe everyone!

I wish there were more I could do than obsessively watch the TV and pray.

My thoughts are with all of those in harms way.

When you're able to do so, PLEASE let us know what you or your neighbors need and where to send it.
