Gnomies Gone Wild

Hello Gnomies!

I am depressed tonight. I have to take stupid Math & English placement tests for school so I was taking the Math practice tests and let me just tell you I won't be testing out. I feel so freaking dumb. Stupid Algebra...I loathe you.

Right there with ya about math of any sort! Every teacher in my school has to teach this horrid math enrichment class every morning to get kids ready for the benchmark, and I am lost 99% of the time. It's sad that I can't do 8th grade math. However, if they would simply put the word problems in Disney terms, I could probably figure it out. You know, something like, "If you can get a 30% room discount on a moderate or a 40% discount on a deluxe room -- what would be the total discount on each of the room types?" Then I would have no problem answering them...just as long as I can employ a calculator. :rotfl:

I just don't remember all the terms of Algebra so I'm just staring at the paper like a dork...and then the kicker...I call my mom for help and she laughs at me. Asking me why she can help me know when she couldn't help in high school? She has a good point. :rotfl2:

My problem is I never had a good foundation of percents/fractions. So I'm totally lost once you throw in letters and equations. My high school math teacher could actually tell what teacher I had in middle school because I wasn't the only who struggled with the basics. It's so frustrating.

I'm going to get stuck in a math class. :sad2:

Maybe you will do better than you think -- when do you have to take the placement tests? They won't count your previous college courses?

No, because they are more than 5 years old which I think is a crock of poop. There is a chance I can test out of them and I'm really hoping. I'd rather test out of math than english because I actually like english. :rotfl2:

That is a crock. Math doesn't change.

English would be so much more enjoyable.

I forgot to say that I take them April 17th. Still waiting to hear when I can try to test out of keyboarding. I'd love to be able to save the $ and time and just skip these three classes but we'll see.

That's like a semester's worth of course, isn't it? It would be nice to skip them all.

This school goes in 10 week modules for the night classes and I'll take two at a time, three nights a week. If I am taking a course that has a lab, that lab will be on Monday or Saturday. If I can test out of those three classes than I'd be doing my internship in November 2011 and then I'd be done. Yay!

It would be really nice to skip all three, all the other classes are very specific and not so general education so I'm excited to get to those.

I suppose I can deal with 10 weeks of math if I have too. :headache:

Awww...while I would be terrible at helping you in anything English related (you'd have to ask Jackie about that LOL) I can help in Math and Science!! So if you have any questions Leslie, hit me up! I'd be more than happy to help.

So my resume building...not going so great...ugh how do you keep this to just one page (front and back) I have so much I want to tell them LOL! But then again I guess that is what my application was for, I pretty much gave them every last piece of information they wanted! I'm just getting so nervous, April 10th is coming closer and closer LOL!

Don't worry, Jen! You are such a talented and dedicated teacher, you will be snatched up by a school district in no time!

Thanks Jackie!! You guys are the best!! So ummm...is it me or is your Spring Break a bit late this year?? I thought mine was never going to come and you're the week after Easter...OY!

I think I'm beyond help. Do they have a Math for Dummies book? :rotfl2:

MIL works at the career center of Boston College and she says it is VERY important to keep it to one page and she also stresses to make sure the whole thing is in the same tense. Which sounds easy but mine was all over the place. I have to say that I have a very nice resume with her help. If you want, I can email you mine so you can see how she helped me.

Morning girls!

Sorry LL about the math stress. I could help out if you need it too. Leave it to Jen and I, the science geeks, to be there for you if you need it :)

Jen, way to go on the exercise! I can't seem to find my groove. I get going, see some early results then for some reason can't keep it going. I've lost the same 5 pounds about 3 times since Christmas :sad2:

Jen, I also have a current resume so if you want a copy I'll be happy to forward it to you. You are right, most of the details will be put in the application, the resume is the highlights (frankly, I suspect they will look at the resume first to see if they even want to bother with the application so keep it simple otherwise they won't even bother with that)

Julez, the game was great despite the loss. We ended up with pretty good seats but after visiting the arena, I realize I should have taken the other seats I was offered...oh well! We had a lot of fun!

Greg and the boys have "spring break" this weekend. They have Thurs/Fri/Mon off. I wish we could go somewhere but alas, we'll just spend time around home. A college friend is coming to visit me on Thurs and I'm going to visit Beth on Fri (who by the way finally got her psych eval done, and she passed :rotfl2: She still thinks she may get the nerve block procedure done before we go, that would be SO awesome! She meets with her doc next week to discuss it) I think I will take the boys to see "Diary of a wimpy kid" sometime on Sat or Mon

Have a good Tuesday girls :grouphug:

Yes Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will happily take any resumes people are willing to send to help me out!! I will PM you Katie with my home email!

Thanks Jen & Katie for the offer of help. I found Basic Math & Pre Algebra for Dummies at Borders so I'm hoping to pick that up on my way home today. I think that will help but if I get stuck, I'm totally PMing you. :rotfl2:

So I go for my 6 month follow up today with my doctors. It's technically been 7 months but whatever. I think I've actually gained a bit of weight since I last went in February. UGH. I haven't been doing well with eating out. I need to cut the crap. :sad2:

It is forever late this year! I can tell you that it is coming about a week too late for me -- my brain is so fried at this point -- I am DYING for the next four days to be done!

Jackie, why was I thinking you already had spring break in March? Who am I thinking of? MeMom or wigd maybe :confused3

OMG... I can just see it- "Disney Math 101 w/CP"

My problem is I never had a good foundation of percents/fractions. :sad2:

Can you believe my daughter, in 1st grade, is being taught fractions now? It's nuts- fractions in 1st grade! I don't even understand them most of the time! :confused3

I forgot to say that I take them April 17th. Still waiting to hear when I can try to test out of keyboarding. I'd love to be able to save the $ and time and just skip these three classes but we'll see.

I tested out of a few classes before my M.A. program, LL. You will do better then you think, don't stress too much. And you will find that the math you have to take (I got out of basic but everyone had to take Statistics) is much easier to process as an adult in a student setting then when we were kids and could've cared less!

Jen- Good luck with your resume building! I wanna make one up as well.

Katie- you just reminded me that there's some things out in IA that I want to take the kids too- stuff around Dubuque. We usually do Chicago for a spring break weekend but maybe I'll look into that again. We got some beautiful weather coming...

So.... Jim's still waiting to start this job he's been accepted for. Cable again. And....573 jobs were let go in the Rockford Public School system. Any teacher without tenure and those who were performing poorly. Eli, Ebin's mom, was one of them. She is IN her tenure 4th year so that really sucks. She has apparently put a resume in with a connection she has in Naples. :sad1: We don't know what's gonna happen next year.... If they move, of course we would follow, as Jim can install cable anywhere, and he also has an uncle who owns a business around Miami. My AAMA certification is good nationwide as well. HOWEVER, we have to stay in our house 3 full years in order not to have to pay back our 8K credit. :headache: Ugh.

---------------

I started a PTR for ramblings and musings but I haven't put it into my siggy yet because I'm afraid of the ever-present PTR jinx!

Have a great day, ladies!

Stace, Jen, C, Paula, Jess- Miss you all!

The thing that annoys me is that I already too statistics in College! I don't want to take it again. :headache:

Everything will work out Julez! :goodvibes
