Hey P and Stace, nice to see your chatter keeping things going around here!

Yay stace for booking your trip and P on her way to Paris! Wowee, such exciting plans :cool1:

Life here is just plugging along until the school year is over...22 days with kids, 34 days till Disney.

Work is actually a bit crazy because it was confirmed this week that we will be changing programs next year (remember, I supervise students working on online courses) so I have been busy talking with kids and counselors about what needs to be done for kids to finish before we lose the license on our current program. Also, there will be someone else doing summer school and I will have to have everything set up for them to make sure they know exactly what kids need to do. Also I have been pushing to get someone who can make it happen understand that I am being seriously underpaid (I'm technically a para but have lots of certified responsibilities that I wouldn't be asked to do if I weren't a teacher. I don't mind doing a teacher's job, I am certainly qualified, but I should be paid for it!)

Have a great day ladies :goodvibes

I hope that you find someone that can make that happen Katie!! I agree.... if you are doing a teachers job, you should be treated as one!!

There's a lot of stuff going on in our area in regards to teachers/salaries/ and especially retirement and health care.

I fully believe that teachers should be well compensated for their jobs. The problem we are having in PA is that the school districts are broke, buildings are falling apart... but the teachers won't give an inch. Our teachers all get healthcare fully paid (whole family!)... even AFTER retirement at age 55 til Medicare kicks in at 65. It's a huge financial burden on the districts.. but the unions won't hear of having them pay for part of it. I don't know anyone that doesn't pay for a portion of their medical insurance.

With the recession.... we all lost a fortune towards our retirements, but the teachers had a huge amount infused into their retirement fund by the State... because their retirement payout is guaranteed. So not only did the taxpayers pay for it originally.... we paid again when we refilled the coffers back up after the fund lost $$. Its causing alot of bitterness in the area. Especially now that they are cutting programs for the kids. We just found out that they are planning to eliminate the Art program at our school for next year... as well as Middle School Sports.

I'm beginning to think that my girls would be better served through PA Cyber School. Math and Language is extremely important, but so is having a well rounded education. Kyle goes to Vo-Tech, but even though he's not in an 'academic' program... he's still required to take Trig and Physics next year as a Junior. He'll do fine (math and science are his strengths) but back when I was in school, I couldn't imagine the 'shop kids' taking those classes!! I wonder how much some that really aren't cut out for it will struggle.

Well... on the to do list (I'm still working on our actual itinerary!)
Arc de Triomphe
the Louve
Eiffel Tower (hoping for ressies ar Altitude 95 there on Ellie's Birthday the 17th)
a full day at Versailles
A castle tour... that visits 3-4 different castles in the region (full day)
various other museums (L'Orangerie, Moderne d art, Invallides)
Notre Dame
Sacre Couer and the Montmarte area (see Moulin Rouge from outside lol! not going to a show though.)
Catacombs, and Luxembourg Gardens (same general area)

this is where we are staying: Hotel Lion d'Or Louve We have a Studio flat reserved with a kitchenette and 2 beds. The 2nd bed is actually lofted to to the top of the room. The room is small... but the interior walls are mirrored, making it feel larger. Besides... we won't be there much! Its walking distance from most of the touristy attractions.

That is really really frustrating! I'm going through the same kind of thing right now at work...it's tough to feel motivated to do good work when you're not being properly compensated and/or appreciated. You should be sure to make the point that you are doing more than your job description requires and shouldn't be given other tasks if not rightly paid for it. That's what I did when they tried to cut my pay a couple of weeks ago. At least you know that the kids you work with appreciate what you do.:goodvibes And I appreciate what you do! (I took my college diploma online!:))

Wow! You're doing like....my dream Paris! That sounds sooooooo lovely! So lovely! Although, I would want to see the Moulin Rouge show. I just wish it wasn't about the nudity but I suppose it's all a part of the history of it.

And that hotel looks very nice! The studio definitely doesn't look small with all of those mirrors! My eyes fell for the trick no problem! And you're right, you'll likely just be there to sleep and shower! It seems to have a perfect location! So nice! I can't wait to see more!:goodvibes

Well, I'm off to the train station now! Did I mention that my cousin and nephew are here from Indiana? Well it's my nephew's third birthday today and we are taking him on a train ride! And then a little BBQ and his "Sidermaaan" (Spiderman) cake!

Have a lovely day ladies!

I looked into going to see Moulin Rouge... the nudity isn't really the issue... its the $$!! For dinner and the show it was about $400USD for 2 tix... and the show alone was about $275usd! The better seats are the tables... so you $275 we'd have a questionable view even.

I am looking into maybe going to a ballet or something like that instead.
Ellie is a dancer... so both options appeal to her.

I know, I've heard it is sooooo expensive. It would definitely be a one-time thing if I ever get there! A ballet would certainly be nice too! And I would love to go to the opera house too! I don't think you'll be in want for any entertainment!:goodvibes
