Being that the new ride is sponsored by Chevrolet, it wouldn't be GM anymore. Family & I got to go up there once, and it was really cool. However, I don't know if it's there any longer.
It is greatly changed since the re-furb. Still very cool to be able to do this When we were there before, they used to send us down to ride the ride after we had our beverages and looked around for a bit. Now, they sent us back out to enter the ride through I think the fast pass after we were done. It was August when we were there last. My son always says that they are his favorite bathrooms in Disney lol
We used the HP lounge at Mission:Space a few times - the first time my son was looking Down at the queue at was making faces at people -- cause he thought they couldn't see us back he was so embarrassed when we were escorted down to the front of the line and looked up and saw the windows were clear
We were in the Siemens lounge inside Spaceship Earth a few weeks ago. It may work differently with the different lounges, but for the Siemens one I had to register on a company intranet page beforehand, and then I received an email with a PIN to enter the lounge.
Nine years ago I just had to ask one of the cast members where the door was and once I was in show my badge to a camera. It may very well be different now.
If your father is a GM retiree, he can definitely access the lounge. He should go to the GM retiree website and print off an ID card. Ask any Test Track CM to show you the door where you enter. Walk down the hallway to the elevator. There is a camera there, press the button and your dad will have to show his ID card to the camera. They will then send the elevator for you. A Blue Cross card with GM on it works, too.
