Gluten Free Dining Review!!!

I have to call and fix our ressies. Dh called and made ressies (stupid I know I should have done it) and never told them dd was on a gluten free/ dairy free diet. He told me he thought they had the info in the computer already . Men.

I am pretty new to these boards and a few days ago I was just browsing and found this thread. My mom has Celiac and in the past everytime she went to WDW(she lives in FL so she goes pretty often) she would end up depressed or sick because of the food situation. At home she rarely goes out but at Disney she wants to join in but then runs into problems which ruins her trip. I called her and told her that she could talk the the chef about gluten free food at the restaurants that she goes to.

Well to make a long story short my mom got to Disney on Friday and has been to 4 restaurants so far. She just called me and said she is having an amazing time. All the chefs have been so kind to her and all the gluten free food they have suggested has been delicious. It was great to hear how happy she is with her whole vacation because she is not worried about food.

My dh, and 2 dd's are going to WDW in August and my parents are going to meet us there. I called and added Celiac to all our ADR. It is wonderful knowing that she will be happy which will make everyone else happy.

Thanks so much for the information. You have truly made someone happy.

I am so happy I found this thread! My 8 yr old DD has celiac and went to WDW back in March with her aunts. I was terrified since she was just dx'd in Saptember and hasn't been away with out me since being dx'd. Well every one at WDW was great! My sister in law called the restaurant they were going to eat at the night before to remind them about her GF needs and it never failed they had GF bread waiting at her table when she arrived! She loved the food. Actually her and her brother an non celiac loved it so much for our November trip we ended up grading to the deluxe dinning plan

When I made my ressie i had them note it on every reservation but i am sure I will check to make sure they are GF noted before we go just to be safe.

We are also going to the MVMCP and I talked to a person in the Food and Beverage department at MK to see if they can accommodate her since she won't be able to have the Hot coco and cookies they put out for every one else. They were wonderful they told me just to go to the Main ST bakery and tell them my dd has celiac and they will give her special hot coco and special GF cookies!

She also wants to do the BBB so I called and checked and the make up and every thing they use there is also safe for Celiacs!

I too have Celiac's and after my first Gluten free trip to WDW I was hooked. We are now DVC members mainly cause its a vacation that we can all enjoy and I don't have to worry about eating...Disney chef's have been so wonderful to me.

Thanks for the heads up on the MVMCP regarding the cocoa and cookies..I am so excited that they will have some that is safe for us also!

I also wanted to say that one of my favorite meals to have in Disney is the Fried chicken at 50's prime time..it had been years since I got to have anything fried and the chef said no problem! On my last trip I got to have fried chicken and onion rings...who would have thought????

On a not so great note, I did do bfast at the Tusker house Donald Duck meal and wasn't super thrilled. The chef walked me through the buffet and pointed out "safe" things and offered to get me some Gluten Free bread for toast, but i asked for pancakes or waffles instead, he was a little put off but he did make me waffles and they were AWFUL!!!! That was a first for me, usually they are Soooooo accomadating and the food is yummy but it can't be perfect all the time I guess!

Oh and I am addicted to the Mickey head ice cream you get in the parks...Yumm!!!!!

LTT was excellent! They brought my kids dedicated plates of the meat w/o the stuffing, gluten free gravy, gf rolls, and plain ice cream for dessert.
The chef came out personally ahead of time (we also have nut allergies) and checked over everthing with me. I loved it!

We have had mixed reviews of Chef Mickey's. The food and interaction are excellent, and sometimes we have had a chef come out, and sometimes not.
If you are forceful (and pleasant!) about needing help in that area they should accomodate you.

My kids are not Celiac, so trace is not an issue, and I can usually find them something to eat. But the times I have had help from the chefs were the best!

Sorry, but I just love 50's prime time! I always get the fried chicken and french fries w/gravy soooooo good! Then they warm up a Gluten free brownie and top it w/ice cream, whipped cream, caramel and chocolate yum!!

As far as Tusker house, it wasn't bad overall I was just used to the chefs always accomodating and offering to make me Gluten free pancakes or waffles but this time I had to ask and i don't think I made him to happy, so they came out awful. It could have just been a bad day for him. I will say it won't keep me away, i made a ressie there for Nov.

Chef mickeys i have done only once and they were great...got offered waffles or pancakes..lol! Plus there was alot of safe stuff on the buffet!

LOVE O'hanas bfast! We go at least twice a trip, They either bring me out a totally seperate skillet of food or they bring one for all to share and put the familys biscuits seperate.......this place is YUMMY!!! Oh, and they offer to make me Gluten free waffles!!!

Mama Melrose was good and very accomodating but just not a favorite of mine, but still it was good!

I Like Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner, They even make me gluten free Mac n cheese, gravy and all the good stuff, and for dessert its usually a gluten free brownie sundae which is just fine for me!

I haven't done any of the others on your list, I will be trying Cinderellas Royal table in july, then again in Nov.

My favorite place to eat has always been Concourse steakhouse but they are closing so I am looking forward to trying the Wave, hopefully it is as good.

I also really enjoy Boma, the chef that always helps me has a hubby with celiac and she is wonderful...not to mention she specially prepares Gluten free zebra domes for dessert. Last time i was there she brought me out 2 and they were so good i asked her for more..lol! Not to mention they have the BEST butternut squash soup that is Gluten Free!

I am also a fan of Whispering Canyon canyon cafe' They make me some yummy burger and fries and chips and dip, and I love the endless milkshakes!

I was married in Disney almost 10 years ago but we didn't return until 3 years ago. We had a vaca planned for jamaca but got diagnosed with celiac and wasn't comfortable going . So i researched best Gluten free places and Disney was always the answere so we went on the premium pkg and I ate so good and was taken care of so well that we decided to buy into DVC. We have now been 6 more times and have 2 trips coming up this year. It is so great that Disney is so wonderful, even the counter services have been great!

We went to Disney last Sept. and while I don't have Celiac I have a real problem with wheat. I at so much and it was all good. Boma's was unreal. They made me my own meal which was out of this world. We ate at Ohans's, Donalds Breakfast, Canadian, England, Cindys breakfast, Crystal Palace, Chef Mickeys (the worst place), Coronado Springs (both food court and full service restaurant), LTT, as well as a few others. My dgdd also has a milk allergy so the two of us usually had our own special meals. The chefs came out each time and helped us. We had special waffles, breads, meats ect. It is the nicest time I have had at a restaurant. It was all really good. I can't wait to go back

thanks for the info! I am so excited about our trip! Like you we actually just bought a DVC too! We are in AKLV! It wasn't planned but DH was all for it and it was his idea! I am thrilled! I love WDW!

Hey guys! I have a question about the buffet restaurants. My dad is gluten intolerant and we have adr's at Hollywood & Vine, Garden Grill and Trail's End, all buffets. Should we call ahead at these places or does he just pick what he needs off the buffet? I hadn't actually thought of telling these places about the allergy but after reading this now I'm not sure Thanks!

I would DEFIANTLY call and let the places know about the gluten issue now then I would also call 24 hours before your ressie and remind them. When my sister in laws did this with my little girl it worked out great and in a lot of cases they even had GF bread/rolls waiting just for her. I think the more notice you can give them the better. I am sure they can help with no notice but I bet there would be a much better selection if they have time to prepare.

With any allergy, always double check and ask to speak to the chef. If your are at a quick service location ask for the manager to check for you. Many, many locations will have gluten free products, but you do have to ask them. If you are making advance dining reservations make sure that you note your food allergy in your reservation by telling the person over the phone that you have a particular allergy. Does anyone know offhand if gluten free breads tend to be dairy and egg free also? I know that Vans waffles are dairy and egg free in addition to gluten free. I really enjoy those.
