We just cruised on the Dream the week of Christmas. Does anyone know what brand or what type of breading was used for the gluten free chicken tenders? They were amazing!
Thank you
Julie

Yeah? What is this GF Chicken Tenders you speak of? I asked about them and they did not exist.

At least the last time on the Fantasy they would fry them up poolside, they had a dedicated GF fryer. That was not the case on the magic because the space was too small to support the extra fryer. I do not know if they could get them for you or not, I didn't try on the Magic as I just went and grabbed food from the buffet instead. I do agree they were incredible, my wife liked them better than the glutonous version:)

I was under the impression that the chef could make them in Cabanas... Is that not the case?

Where/how did you get GF chicken tenders on the Dream? My son is GF and we'll be cruising in December, so would like to know.

Yes they are available in cabanas on the classics if you ask, just not as convienient as the fantasy where you can stay out on deck and get them.

Though if you are not a sun worshipper, the deck is not super convenient as you're not going to be hanging on the pool deck...

Can you get them in Cabanas on the Dream Class?

I didn't ask, but they have always been so helpful with me, that I would guess if they have them on the ship, they would get them for you:) I have to be smart about cross contamination, but am not celiac just extremely intolerant of gluten. I have had a majority of the chefs at the buffets offer to have food made in the back to avoid any cross contamination issues.

Also if you are craving fried chicken, you can get it special made for you in one of the mdrs for lunch, just ask your head server the night before. You do need to be specific when explaining it, because not all of the servers are aware of what we call fried chicken, I got the still yummy chicken fingers once;)

So, for the gluten-free chicken tenders on the pool deck, do you have to ask for them in advance? Or do they always have them available? This is what I'm wondering.

In 2014 on the Fantasy when we asked for them, they had them there, but we had to wait for them to cook them. There must be enough demand to have them on hand, but not enough to keep some already cooked. Granted that info is 3 years old at this point, hopefully someone more recent can confirm what I said as true.

I would imagine the demand factor is a big part of why it is so important people notate food allergies/intolerances like gluten-free on the reservation so they have a sense of how many people require gluten-free on a given sailing and can stock adequately.

There is no place to mention gluten intolerance on reservation.

You have to call in and have it noted. Or you can contact special needs. It's really VERY simple - and something that if really needed shouldn't be a chore.

Well, it must not be on their radar if neither gluten intolerance nor wheat allergy is something you can check off under special requests. For whatever reason.

I guess I'm weird then to be proactive about my health and wellbeing. If it is not on a list, I contact the cruiseline or place of business on my own and have it added. It is a very simple process. I would rather spend the few minutes it takes to call and have it noted - and make sure it can be accommodated - than be on board and have them not have things available because they didn't know.

I call because having it noted is important to me. I don't say "Oh, if it's not listed they must be ok and they'll have things." I mean, they will have the naturally gluten-free things. But the other things are stocked in proportion - with a little wiggle room for those too lazy to call - to the number of people they know will be on board. I know there was one day on RCCL this summer where they were completely out of the regular GF bread at dinner and served some other nastiness masquerading as "bread". My server was soooooooo apologetic about it and promised that the next night there would be more as they would be able to restock at the next port (which was an embarkation/disembarkation port for some of their ships) and he said "Not everyone who needs gluten free informed us and so we have run out of some things." Which makes sense - they want to waste as little as possible, so they're not going to overstock and will stock closer to the expected usage.

I was able to get allergy friendly chicken tenders (which are also GF, even tho I dont need GF; I am allergic to milk, peanut, tree nut and seafood) at the QS burger place on the pool deck on both Dream and Fantasy. They had a dedicated frier. I also got safe fries.

I did not have to order them in advance, but did have to explain i had food allergies. The CM got a manager/supervisor for me. There was a bit of a wait for that person to come for me, we then discussed my needs and what they could make for me, and then they went and made me the food, which again is another wait because the food is not already made. So, while it is at the QS place, it is not "quick" :-) But it was yummy !!

Note it is VERY VERY loud and noisy on the pool deck near the QS places. Having a written "chef card" or something similar that you can give to the manager/supervisor/chef will help a LOT in communicating your special diet needs.
