Glasses/ Sunglasses

What do all you glasses wearers do about sunglasses when at the parks? I have glasses for distance and I like to wear them on rides. Most of the rides at Disney are inside so I constantly have to change back and forth between my glasses and my sunglasses (which are prescription). Have any of you come up with a solution to this? Do you just keep them in your bag? I hate the constant taking on and off!

I have been considering the transition lenses when I go for my next optical appointment. What are everyone's experiences with the transition lenses? I am wondering if I would like them. Right now I have those magnetic sunglasses that go on my regular glasses but that can be a pain putting them on then taking them off. Any transition wearers out there?

I do want to get contacts eventually, but I have very senstive eyes and I'm afraid I won't be able to wear them. I also like the idea of transitions, but I hate that they're kind of tinted when they're not in the sun. My dad has them and has had them for years (on many different glasses) so he ust really like them. I don't know...

I don't have an answer for you but just wanted to let you know that transitions don't darken when you are in the car driving, which is when I need it most.

How about those flip up thingies?

Several companies now make fashionable sunglasses that fit over perscription glasses. Solitare is one of the companies. You can find several different brands on QVC. I love them. They are in the 25 - 30 dollar a pair range.

I had transistion lenses and they do not darken like a sunglass when outside and are tinted when inside. When my son got married 2 years ago, it was at the Southernost Mansion in Key West and I realized that all the pictures would have me in "sunglasses". I had to get new glasses and new sunglasses. It's really not all that bad flipping back and forth but I do wish they would come up with a transistion lens that really does work like sunglasses. My DD and DS both wear contacts with no problems and the other DS had the lasik (he loves it).

I make sure to wear my contacts when I know I'm going to be wanting to wear sunglasses.

I just got prescription sunglasses. One thing to consider is what color lens you get. It doesn't have to be the black we associate with sunglasses. I got a brownish color lens, having had that precioulsy and loving it. I find I can often leave them on in stores.

I have been advised many times to stay away from transition lenses. Unless you are in direct sunlight, they do not turn darker. So, for example, when riding in the car, your glasses remain clear no matter how bright it is.
I prefer to have the protection of the darker lens.

I agree, it will be a pain to switch, but it's a burden that we share.

Same for me... My eyes are sensitive, but I tried different contacts and different solutions until I finally found something that worked for me. My eye doctor will let me try a pair of lenses before ordering them, so I know if I like them

DH wears glasses and the last two pairs that we have purchased, include "clip-on" sunglasses. They are really neat! They are magnetic and clip right on to the front of the frames. They are made especially for the glasses, so they match perfectly. All we have to carry is the slim case, so when we go inside...he unclips them and puts them away. He wasn't sure if he was going to like them at first, but they have been great!
And they are cost-effective because they come with the glasses...so they don't cost any extra. Only certain brands have them, but he has always been able to find a frame that he likes. The sunglasses are just a bonus!

I love my transitions lenses. Originally I had three pairs of glasses -- reading, distance and sunglasses. I complained to my optho who looked at my prescription and realized it wasn't that far off and that I could combine my reading and distance into one prescription and then we added the transitions. My only complaints are that it does take a minute or so to adjust, so sometimes you're walking inside with "sunglasses" on and sometimes you walk outside and get blinded by the sun. Also, I would prefer sunglasses with very large lenses, so as to block out more sun, but I'm not willing to wear big lenses glasses all day.

It's a pain because I do it too. The only suggestion I have is to use one eyeglass case. I carry a backpack and stick the larger of the two cases in the mesh side pocket. This way, the case is readily handy and I'm not digging through my bag.

True - something to do with the way the windows filter the UV rays??

DH just got transitions and loves them. They don't darken a ton (like the old style ones did) but enough to be comfortable in the sun. I asked if there was a problem coming indoors with them changing back quickly enough, and he said no problem at all.

He'll be trying them out at WDW for the first time in 12 days!

BTW, DH opens the sun roof when he needs to "charge" them in the car!

DH also got a spare pair of glasses recently that came with sunglasses that attach to the front of the frame with a clip/magnet and then flip up when not in use vs needing to take them off altogether. (got them at Lenscrafters on clearance)

1. If your transition lenses are not changing in car try putting glasses in freezer over night that should take care of that problem.

2. Transitions are not enough sunglass protection for me most of the time I use sunglasses that are made to fit over my glasses yes at disney it's still a pain in the butt to have to take them off when I enter a building but least I'm not completely switching glasses frames all the time!.

3. Make sure your sunglasses do cover all areas over your frames an do not let light in between face an frame that can be a real killer!

4. I'm VERY VERY light sensitive with what is called PHOTOPHOBIA winter is the worst time for me as the sun is not as high in the horizion, while I take my sunglasses to disney I don't always need them there.

Depends on the vehicle. Cars with glass that blocks UV rays will prevent the lenses from tinting. My glasses won't darken in my wife's Acura, but they darken fine in my Jeep.

I have the magnetic clip on shades too; didn't have a problem with them on any rides I rode.

I work for an eye doc for the last 14 years. Acuvue has a new contact out
called Acuvue Oasys and Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism. I too have dry eyes and an astigmatism, and I can wear them all day. Also, a great solution is Clear Care it make the contacts feel like a brand new pair. And it doesn't make my eyes feel dry.

And yes Trans. change by the UV lights. So with your windows down they may change more, & yes putting them in a freezer does make them change too. Trans. lenses are more controlled by the temp and uv rays. If its cold out you will notice them change darker and it takes them longer to turn clear again. I don't think they are dark enough for me so I have 2 pairs. and that way DH doesn't notice as quick that I got more glasses too.

I have transitions and I love them. I too open my sunroof to charge them up, LOL. In the beginning they were not transitioning fully, I cleaned them with the lens cleaning wipes (the disposable wet ones) and shortly there after they began charging to their full amount. I will be using them for the first time at Disney on my next trip. I'm happy because I know I'll finally be able to see everything on the rides.
