Glasgow to Orlando HELP!

Hi Scottishgirl87

I had heard similar stories about missing connections so we have opted for around 4 hrs change over time in Newark.....
did your baggage go right through to Orlando?
Can you get out of the airport for fresh air between the flights?

4 hours is a good connection time. I don't know about getting OUT of the airport but you may not want to!

Continental have all of Terminal C to themselves and it is massive with 3 offshoots, there are tons of shops and eateries to explore and we wandered and ate and shopped for about 5 hours before we started to get bored and impatient.

Here is a link to the terminal:http://www.panynj.gov/CommutingTravel/airports/html/newarkliberty.html

Click on Terminal C and at the top you will see tags for shops and eateries so just click on one and you'll see where you can go and what you can do.

Upon arrival you have to go through immigration and then you need to go downstairs to collect your luggage then take it back upstairs to send it onwards to Orlando. Once you get through security you're airside so go and find your gate, see if there's any change in the flight status and if not go and have a wander, get something to eat or go and get a drink, buy some goodies etc.

The time will pass very quickly.

There are no seatback tv's on the connection flight but the next few hours pass quite quickly and then once at orlando go an collect your bags and off you go!

Yeah I know about FlyGlobeSpan just not sure I'd wanna fly with them. Saying that I've got a friend who's used them twice to go to Orlando and had no problems!

We flew Globespan to Sanford last November. No problems whatsoever although the restricted baggage allowance caught some people out on the return leg. A lot of $$$ being stumped up

oh wow, maybe start now... I was mad because I throw out some clothes, suncream, cool cream etc then noticed that Sanford didn't weight our luggages...

On the day we left Sanford they were weighing everything - including hand luggage. We stood in the line pulling out books and the likes and stuffing them in our pockets. Maybe this year they will make us all stand on a set of bathroom scales :rotfl::rotfl:

Sorry to drag this up again but other half has FINALLY agreed to properly save for FL next year, planning to go in May....

Anyone know generally when I'll be able to search for fares at this time?? Tbh, would prefer to go from Glasgow so Virgin's not really an option. But if anyone has any recommendations of who they've booked through from Glasgow specifically that'd be great :)

I am with you Scottishgirl87, I phoned today as we would like to go sometime after the easter holidays are past but before end of May 2010 they could not find one company going out of Glasgow we would be as well living on the moon as we would probably of got a better answer than we did which was just to keep phoning & hopefully something will show soon from Glasgow.
I know it may be cheaper to do indirect flights but it is tiring especially with kids & if you go down night before it starts to add to the cost again, I get so angry about the lack of flights out of Scotland and now it appears there are even less planned for 2010.
So if you find out flights from Scotland would love to know.

Oh no! That is a hassle. I assumed it would be like flying to LA. Normally it is different carriers and I have to go to the counter to get a second boarding pass, but my luggage is checked all the way through. It must be Virgin that is the problem.

I feel miffed now.

Last time we flew out of Gatwick with Virgin, we got a transfer down from Glasgow with BA. We had to check in with Virgin again at Gatwick but didn't need to collect & recheck our luggage. It was checked in for the full journey from Glasgow.
The same thing happened on the way home again so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

That said, we had bags go missing on both journeys but that's another story:scared1:

I keep looking but it's only really Virgin about right now :( I'm not object to booking Virgin and just transferring down to Manchester or Gatwick but is it just me or does Virgin seem more expensive than others??

Unless we find a really good deal my plan is to book in January. I'm having soooooo much bother about finding somewhere I'd like to stay when we go! Argh! I stayed in the Enclave Suites last time and it we loved it, good location too, but it seems to get absolutely slated on TripAdvisor these days, and it was over 5 years ago since I went so! I know TA's always a bit exaggerated but ya know that way you could read 100 good reviews and find that 1 bad review that just puts you off!! All I know is I don't wanna stay in a motel, and somewhere on/near I-Drive as we won't have a car.

I just checked Continental and randomly chose two weeks in February and this is what it came up with (this is just for one adult):

From Glasgow £565.

From Edinburgh £482.

Flights are released only 11 months prior to your return date so you will have to wait until June to give you dates up to the end of May.

We are flying out with Thomas Cook and did the last time we went too - you can book flight only with them or book a whole package. We've not had any probs and have flown with Thomas Cook to other longhaul destinations too. My friend works for Thomas Cook so she can always get us better deals with them hence the reason we've chosen them so often but I can't fault them.
