Hi

I know I don't leave for a long time yet, but I was looking to book a hotel for the night in Glasgow as our flight is at 9. Does anyone know of a good hotel or airport hotel in Glasgow? There will be 3 of us, my fiance and I and my mother, don't mind if we share a room for the night. I can't decide if it's better to book a room in Glasgow centre so we can do the shopping thing during the day or book an airport hotel, any suggestions?

Thanks

It would depend on what shops you wanted to go to. Braehead Shopping Centre is about 4 miles from the airport. The Fort is about 8 miles away. Would you be wanting to go into Glasgow City Centre? Any of these are easily accessible by taxi therefore you could stay onsite and travel out.

Any other info you need :)

Bonnie Lass as you are from Scotland , should we not be asking you this question ;)

I may be from Scotland but I am from Aberdeen, and have only stayed in the centre of Glasgow at The Millenium, right next to Queen Street Station, which I thought was great. I just don't know though if I should stay at an airport hotel, it would save having to get a taxi and it would obviously be an early start for us, so I was hoping to get breakfast onsite. An airport hotel may have to be the way to go as I don't think we'd have time to do this if we stayed in the city centre.

It would really depend on your flight times as well. Some mornings it can take an hour or more to go from the City Centre over the Kingston Bridge and to the airport which is the grand total of 6 miles :confused3

If you wanted a nice meal in the evening and also wanted to stay onsite. Braehead is only a couple of miles along the M8 and it has a DiMaggios and TGI Fridays.

I think my flight time is 09.35 and I don't want to be an hour in a taxi and I know I will be going at the worst possible time. Maybe the airport hotel is best, saves the hassle. I guess we could always dump our luggage at the airport hotel then come back in to the city centre by train for shopping and dinner etc, then catch the train back.

For the time of your flight I would say staying onsite would be better for you. There are lots of great places to eat, the Merchant City has some fantastic places to eat and to shop.

hi caitlin, we stayed at the holiday inn express last year before our flight, its only 200 yds to the main terminal , and they serve breakfast from 4.30 am, we went over to airportat 7am , checked our bags in then walked back to the hotel for breakfast, then checked out, stress free :thumbsup2 , rooms are fine, pretty sure they do family rooms, also nice restraunt and bar in the hotel. hope this helps.

...AND they will securely park your car for the duration of your holiday FREE. You'll have to ask for this option when you book.

We always stay at the express by holiday inn. Short walk to the terminal but serve brekkie from 4am and car parking option too if you wish it. We've stayed there the last 2 years going on a 7am to Salou and plan to book it for July next year for our later flight to Sanford.

Hi
In Jully we stayed at the Normandy Hotel. It only cost something like £55 (double) with 15 nights parking. The hotel was great, the room I was in had recently been refurbished. I was really surprised how nice it was for the price ! The shuttle was easy to use and got us to the airport in 5 mins. We also had a lovely meal in the hotels restauant, We will def be using it again. In fact my DH has used it since when he was flying to the Isle of Lewis.

:goodvibes

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport (not the express) in September it was fantastic and right in the airport complex. It is right in front of the new drop off / pickup area. They have rooms with views of the runway.

I wouldn't waste any time or money shopping, save it until you get to the states and do your shopping there. We only take about half a suitcase worth of stuff between us. Yet we bring back at least 2 full ones. :)

The holiday inn is the way to go quine, great free parking if you are driving down from the deen the day before, Handy for the return too, just walk across the street, and your heading home north in no time! :thumbsup2
shopping (not that i'm into such things) is better kept til you hit sunnier shores!
enjoy.

We are flying with Globespan next March. It really suits us because we stay in Glasgow and for we can get a direct flight to Sanford.

What sort of tips were you looking for?

Just wondering really what the middle rated seats were like compared to Virgin and tcd ordrinary seats, weve booked the front three seats and a spare so we are hoping they will be okay. Can you take DVD ( not that we have one ). Also I saw on another site that they had cancelled flights when they didnt sell enough so that was a bit of a worry. Any opininions or chat welcomed :)

Snap :thumbsup2 this is exactly what we are doing. They are also doing deals on car parking at the moment also (£89 for room and 14 nights parking) can't be bad. Continental breakfast is included in the price
