Pop Daddy- I warned you...

Tomorrow at 2pm I have an appointment with my boss. I will be giving my "5 week notice" at that time. I am the Recreation Director for our town, and am getting done to go back to college in the fall. I will be taking 2 classes this summer as well.

I need to get done now, so they can get someone in the position before the summer planning really gets into full swing. They will need to compile the final summer schedule of our Recreation Center, hire 35 summer staff, train lifeguards/wsi instructors etc... it's not an easy job to have.

I am staying on until the last week in February due to a Basketball Tournament that we sponsor during February school break. 4 of our 6 youth teams will be playing in it, its at our Middle School, and my coaches/contacts need me during this time.

It will also take about 3 weeks of my "20 hour salary" to put everything that is in my head into the computer for the next director. Eveything I do with all programs/coaches/contacts etc..is in my head. I KNOW I KNOW...I should have wrote stuff down better. But this is how the place was when I took over 2 years ago. I knew nothing and had to come up with everything myself.

There are a lot of negatives about my job that I would like to bring to my managers attention. the fact that 2/3 of my job in the fall thru spring happens after hours. Night Meetings, coaches contacts etc... and that is something they need to take into account for the next guy. I also dont feel as though our department is high on the list of our Select Board. It seems that we get budget increases each year, but it takes 2 meetings, with my entire Rec Committee there batteling for my department.

I am not sure if I should only put in writing the fact that I am getting done, when and that I have truly enjoyed my job, which I have. And then only verbally tell him the other stuff.

I want him to understand the time constraints in this position, and the fact that I took this job for the benefit of all the children in our town, but the only ones suffering were my own. With all the meetings etc.. at night. Sure they loved being home with Daddy, but bedtime routines and homework etc.. are something that we really enjoy.

Your thoughts??
