I'm finally ready (and have time) to organize my Hobby Room in the new house. This is what I have so far:
a large drafting-type desk with a clip on light and desk chair.
a white 2 door cabinet for storing "stuff"
tv :) to keep me "company"
The computer is in another room but I don't use it much with my scrapping.

My "want list" includes:
a table or desk for sizzix stuff
stackable paper organizer

What would you add?
TIA

Edited to add: Can you believe I didn't stick a wastebasket in the room? :rotfl: It really HAS been a long time since I scrapped.

I have limited space (townhouse dweller) and i just bought a CD media shelf. It matches my Target scrap furniture and it is perfect for my sizzix that sits on top with sizzix storage turntable and then the shelves hold my boxs of letter, red large sizzix and my xyron 900. The shelves are thin and it fits behind my desk just perfect.

A LARGE tilt Drawer container
where I can color code and organze all those little things like - like eyelets, brads, charms and so on!
A phone!
a Fridge for drinks!
:rotfl2: I would never leave my scrap room though! :rotfl2:

Honestly.... I have been interested in one of those Ott lights. If I scrap during the day I am fine, as I am in front of a window... but in the evening it gets hard. I have two lamps... one is a typical gooseneck desklamp (halogen) and the other is just a regular table lamp. If/when I am desperate I turn on my bedroom overhead light, but it is harsh.

I definitely agree with the stacking paper organizer. I am DESPERATE for a new way to organize my papers. I bought two expandable file type things, made for 12 x 12 paper.... but they are MORE than full, and the overflow is lying flat in drawers.... hard to see what I have. I need a better paper system... BADLY!.................P

I have two of those expandable file things too! One is all stickers and stuff. It's fine. But the one for paper and cardstock is so HEAVY and it's falling apart.

a cheap alternative is the Target Cubes
have you seen those??

that said I am going to trade mine in for verticle storage I think
maybe the scrappers warehouse has a great price on them...
It looks like they would actually hold more paper in the same space!

I have an almost 10' X 2' shelf in front of the windows across the end of my kitchen (bump out.) The ends rest on two IKEA cabinets with three shelves each. The middle, between the cabinets has a divided shelf beneath it which also stabilizes it. Each side is wide enough to hold two 'silver trays' full of pens, and tape runner, etc. The middle section is just the right size for a ruler and my 12 inch papercutter). I have a little pail on top containing my most used tools - pencil, black, silver, gold pens, corner round scissors, needle, tweezers, cutterbee scissors.

On the left side, bottom shelf: a bin exactly the size of the shelf where I put all my stickers - didn't like 'organization' in that area, too many odd sizes, categories, etc. i'd rather rummage. On the second shelf "smaller" three drawer sterlight drawers with small punches, hand punches, adhesives, pop dots, etc. On the top shelf "larger" three drawer sterlite drawers with large punches (one whole set), stamp sets (only have two or three), my tool kit and boxes of jewelers round tins with my -er 'schmuck' like beads, eyelets, etc.

Right side, bottom shelf - albums & pizza boxes full of page kits for projects in progress.
Second shelf - bin same as sticker bin on other side but this one holding envelopes of photographs and ziploc bags full of memorabelia for future projects. I should probably have this somewhere else. Top shelf has bigger rotary cutter.

On the right hand end of the table top stands a 4 shelf bookshelf containing, idea books, coloring books, xyrons, templates in a binder. But where, you ask, is the paper? Well, there's approximately 6 feet between the end units. So I have all my paper in hanging file folders in a rolling file cart. When I'm not sitting there, it is tidily underneath, next to the office chair. When I'm working, It rolls out in front of the right side end unit.

You really have to assess your style of scrapping. I don't use a lot of 'stuff' beyond a few eyelets or a bit of fiber now and t hen, so I don't need much storage for that sort of thing. You could well need WAY more storage than I have, depending on the size of your stash.

I have an ott floor light, ceiling light, and two windows. It is NOT enough because i can't get the Ott light over my work, the arm isn't long enough.
Happy Planning!

Don't drafting tables tilt up? Would your eyelets and stuff roll off? I lay out my pages before gluing so I don't know if that would work for me.

My ideal room would have LOTS of paper storage so I could see my colours at a glance. It would also have a stereo; can't scrap without music. Also approx 3 feet of space to just lay out all my stuff as I go. I love to have lots of room with stuff spread all over.

They can tilt or lay flat. It has a nice big surface. I got it about 5 years ago and love it. It has a tray on the side for my pens and scissors and stuff I use most often. I got it at Michael's or Hobby Lobby.

I would invest in a nice light as well. I bought a small Ott light and I love it, but it really is too small and I wish I would have invested in the floor lamp. They are so nice when you are scrapping at night: you can really see which colors go with each other.

Good luck with your room!

My ultimate scrap room supply has to be an overhead shelf to store supplies. Luckily, DH made one that I designed last year. He also made a storage piece to hold my ribbon that I designed. Check my link for photos:

I think a good light is also very important. I'm trying to find a good way to store my books (12x12 size). Do the "Target cubes" hold enough weight for this kind of storage?

I love that shelf area. Especially the Mickey's on the top right side. :)

I love the ribbon storage: what a clever idea!

mla973, I don't think I'd store any albums long-term on any sort of wire shelving. I made this mistake in my last apartment and the bottoms of my pages have indentations from the wire. You can, however, get plastic bottoms for wire cubes (sorry, I lost the link on my old hard drive!). My target cubes are actually holding quite a lot of weight....but I'm very afraid they'll give out one of these days. I don't really have them set up properly though....don't have the backs on them so they're less stable.

I'm in the middle of planning a scrap room myself...we're finishing one side of our second floor as my studio/dh's computer. I'm looking on 2peas for all the rooms that have slanted ceilings...ours slant from about 5' up to the 8' ceiling. I'd love to come up with a creative way to use that slanted ceiling.

Otherwise my wish list is for a counter height area where I can work, and for it to be neat and orderly looking. Most scrapbook areas are pretty cluttered looking (nature of the beast I suppose...lol...so easy to have so much stuff!) and I find that interferes with my creative process. So I want my area to be tidy and inspiring....not that I'm sure how to create that!
