We may do a little more eating in the villa than first thought. Recently a few trips to restaurants with our dear grandson who is 2 1/2 years old have made us reconsider some of our adr's. At least a couple of nights we may have a crock pot meal in the villa and just chill.

We also have a 6 month old granddaughter and a daughter-in-law recently diagnosed with lymphoma.

So send me some easy meal ideas crock pot or not. One night DS and DH may grill out for us. We are staying at VWL and this is out first trip "home"!

I don't have it in front of me, so I can't give you any specific recipes. BUT, I have a "Fix It and Forget it" recipe book for slow cookers; there are many varieties, but my version is the "5 ingredients or less" book. It makes delicious, but SUPER easy meals. Some require more work than others, so I skip those. :rotfl: I bought it used at Hastings, but check your library. There may be a copy there that you can peruse to get some ideas. This would help your ingredient/shopping list to be small as well.

We have done CrockPot stuff for ski trips. Frozen meatballs & Spaghetti sauce make subs serve with salad & chips. I premake tacomeat freeze before we leave & put it in the crockpot works great. Another thing is stouffer lasanga you can put it in the oven while swimming.

First of all, my prayers and thoughts are with your granddaughter and daughter-in-law:hug:

We are using a crockpot this trip for two meals:
1. pot roast, carrots, potatoes all in together w/McCormick roast spices (use the required amount of water) I make this all the time.
2. chicken tenders with a teriyaki marinade in the crockpot for 3-4 hours; cut up and serve with rice (in the rice cooker--best invention ever) and peas.

3 pound chuck or shoulder cut beef roast. Cover in salt and garlic powder (NOT garlic salt). Pour beer or beef bouillon to the top of the meat. Cook all day on low. Serve with sides the first night (I use rice, but potatoes would do) and a salad or green vegetable. For a second meal, shred remaining meat and put on hoagie buns with horseradish sauce, or whatever sauce you prefer. Serve with chips.

Another easy meal, although not Crock-pot, is taco salad. The only real cooking is browning the ground beef and adding the taco seasoning. Then, put fritoes on the plate, pile on the shredded lettuce (comes in a bag in the salad section), taco meat, shredded cheese, sour cream, etc.

Somehow, "cooking" at the villas is much more pleasant that cooking at home! Enjoy your first trip Home!!

This can be done with either chicken or pork.

one cut -up chicken or 4 chicken breasts
one can mushroom soup
one envelope dry onion soup
one soup can rice
one soup can water

Start with rice in bottom of crockpot, add mushroom soup and water, add meat, top with onion soup.

Cook on low 4-6 hours. Stir and enjoy with salad.

Here's a dessert recipe:

one can pie filling
one box cake mix
one stick margarine or butter, melted

Pour pie filling into bottom of crockpot lined with crock-pot liner.
Empty dry cake mix on top, covering pie filling.
Pour melted margarine over cake mix.

Cook in low for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Dessert will have pudding consistency.

I love cherry with chocolate cake, and apple with spice cake. Try your own combos!

The dessert recipe sounds great, but what is a crockpot liner? Where do you get them? Thanks!

One of our favorites is boneless skinless chicken breasts with a jar of salsa. Cook on low all day. You can serve the meat over rice or use it as taco, burrito or enchilada filling.

A favorite recipe around my home is Crockpot pulled pork. Put a boneless pork roast in Crockpot. Pour one bottle of your favorite barbeque sauce over pork. Add about 1/2 cup of water. Cover and cook all day. About 20 minutes before serving shred pork with 2 forks. We usually eat this with mashed potatoes and a veggie, next day we put on rolls for yummy sandwiches. Very easy and delicious!

These sound yummy and easy. Gonna try a few here at home prior to trip to test them out!!

I put in the crock pot an eye of the round roast, 1 can french onion soup, 1 can beef broth, and 1 can of beer. Let it cook all day then slice and serve the meat on crusty bread for french dip sandwiches.

Enjoy your trip with your family :goodvibes.

I haven't heard the term oleo used in years. that's what my gma called it. Thanks for making me smile.

Grandma here. I live and grew up in Minnesota and until 1963 we had anti-colored margarine laws that protected the dairy industry here. "Oleo" here was white (like shortening) and sold in a plastic bag with a little circle of food coloring. You squished the circle and then squeezed it and kneaded the plastic bag to spread the color throughout the oleo. My family used butter to support farmers but I loved going to my girlfriend's house and helping her squeeze her oleo to make it yellow. Sometimes her family got illegal colored margarine from another state and I lost out on all the fun.
That's my trip down memory lane. Sorry it is so off-topic. Think of it when you put your pre-colored stick of oleo into your crock pot!

3-4# beef roast(chuck, round, whatever is on sale) I used chuck
Brown roast in 1T oil and put in crockpot
Add to skillet:
2 cups water
1 cup salsa
1 package dry onion soup mix

Let come to a simmer and pour over roast

Cook on LOW FOR 6 hours. It's great served over rice--the juices are delish.

I had left overs so I boiled a few potatoes and carrots added them to the leftover beef (shredded) and juice and made an easy hash....also, delish!

boneless chick breasts, 2 cans cream of chicken soup, 1 can cheddar cheese soup, garlic powder to taste: - put chicken in crock pot, mix soups and garlic, add to pot, cook 8 hours low, and voila delicious chicken and gravy. This gravy is great on rice, mashed potatoes, or baked potatoes. Add salad or microwave veggies and you are good to go. This is by far the easiest and really good crock pot recipe I have come across.:)

My pulled pork...sounds crazy but so easy and rave reviews...

get a pork butt..:lmao:seriously
put in crockpot, cover with GINGER ALE and chopped onion....No I'm not kidding
Cook as long as you want no less than 8 hours on low.
Drain....break apart with fork mix back in crockpot with barbecue sauce. WE use sweet baby rays. We serve on potato rolls and any side will do..to keep it easy maybe stovetop.

It sounds crazy but it really is awesome.
