We have never done a long trip at Disney. The longest we have spent is 4 days. We have a trip planned in October 2016, tentatively it is 9 days. I'm thinking of extending it to 14, but DH thinks that is too long. When you do 14 days, how do you split up your time? TIA!

We usually do 10-14 days. This October we're doing 18! We shoot for 3 MK days, 3 Epcot, 1 DHS, 1 Ak, a water park/DTD day, and a water park/ MNSSHP day.
This year we've added in a total resort day, more down time, an extra DTD day, and park hoppers.
We'll be exhausted when we get home but there will still be so much to have done. . .

Do you stay at the park all day, or do you take a mid-day break? Your plan is similar to what I had in mind, except instead of a resort day I want to drive to Tampa and do a beach day.

We never have taken breaks. We are all commando, open to close types! When my youngest was little she napped in the stroller but my oldest and I marched on!
That being said, this will be our longest trip and our first with hoppers. So our plans are a little different than previous plans. We are planning on some early "home" days, sleep in days, and late hops. Since we have so many days, we're hoping to have a little more relaxing trip than normal.

Never stayed 14, but I'll tell you my Aug/Sept 11 day 5/5 split stay plans (Poly then YC)!
Day 1 - Fly in to MCO, rent car, check in, unpack, swim, eat
Day 2 - MK 9 - 1, pool/nap break - back to MK from 7 - 1.
Day 3 - Sleep in, pool, Epcot - 2 - 9 (break up with an early dinner ADR)
Day 4 - Blizzard Beach - quick break - DTD for DQ/dinner/shopping
Day 5 - AK from 9 - 4, dinner at resort (Poly)
Day 6 - DHS from 9 - 2 - pool break at Storm Along Bay - back to DHS from 8 - 9:30
Day 7 - Typhoon Lagoon - break - back to DHS from 7 - 9:30
Day 8 - MK from 9 - 4, break and dinner at SAB pool
Day 9 - Epcot from 9 - 1, SAB break - back to Epcot from 6-9
Day 10 - BB from 10 - 3; break; DTD from 5-8 for DQ
Day 11 - 7:10 flight out of MCO (ugghhh!))

If I had 3 more days, I'd add on a 2 night stay at Universal and do one day at each of their parks. I'd also take one day to do

We have done several 2 weeks trips. We are doing a 15 day in a few weeks. We always take mid-day break in hot weather months & hop or go back to same park in evening. We also eat a sit down every day for dinner and maybe 1/2 of the time either a sit down breakfast or lunch. We usually spend our evenings in park we can walk to if we can(i.e. below for MK in a row we are at BLT and EP we are at BCV) Where we are staying also influences where we eat.-- on avg, we go to MK the most, then about the same EP/HS and less if AK.
also water park days in plan can always change to a park on a fly.

You will see on plan that we never really do 2 intense park trips in same day. Long trips allow you to do this.

1 arrive, Artist Point , MK (fp)
2 M(fp)K, Ep, Via Napoli,
3 HS(fp), family in Orlando visit
4 Water Park, Kona Cafe, MK(fp)
5 AK(fp), Tusker House lunch, Jiko
6 EP(fp), Coral Reef Lunch, HS, Mama Mel Fan Pack
7 HS(fp), Sci Fi Lunch, DTD
8 water park, MK(fp), Tony's
9 AK, 1900 Park Fai, MK(fp)
10 water park, The Wave, MK(fp)
11 MK9(fp), Crystal Pal break, Beaches Cream Lunch, EP, Tokyo Dining
12 AK, Capt Grill, HS(fp)
13 Akerhus break, EP(fp), Cape May dinner, EP(fp)
14 MK(fp), Beached & Cream, EP, Via Napoli
15 HS(fp), Drown derby, depart

Does it count when the longer trip is part onsite and part off? We also did Universal that trip:
Day1 -arrival day-CBR check in-head out for dinner and trip to store (had car-flew into Sanford) to stock room with breakfast and snacks, drinks at resort bar (kids were tired so DH and I got some couple time to talk)
Day2-Early am MK (BOG lunch) break at resort, back out to DHS for FP and dinner (we went during SWW so lot of Star wars stuff)
Day 3- am EMH at AK -done by noon so headed to AKL for Sanaa lunch, then break at resort,pm was MK night and the fireworks and FP+
Day 4- resort change day-sleep late, laundry by quiet pool, check out and off to BC-where room was ready! So settled in and headed to EPCOT for FP and dinner. Early night and we headed to resort for nightcap at HH
Day 5-open to close DHS for SWW -Galactic breakfast at Sci Fi, dinner at 50's Prime Time (3 of us did have a resort break)
Day 6-DHS -more SW stuff along with shows-we did hop to Epcot for lunch, then a short rest and swim at resort before heading back for fireworks, then late EMH at MK-best time ever!*
Day 7- checkout day-sleep in, check out-DH took middle DD over to condo with most of our stuff while the rest headed down to enjoy SAB for awhile-they came back after settled and rested-lounged some more, then changed and headed to condo-Giordano's pizza for dinner
Day 8- sleep late, laze around - did go to Universal for a few hours in the evening but back early-Mexican place for dinner (Chuy's?)
Day 9- early early up and out to check into RPR, breakfast then Universal - took break in afternoon too
Day 10 up and out early-then back to check out and head back to parks for a bit-left early evening (rain) back to condo-carside pick up at Chili's to eat in condo.
Day 11-total pool day at resort (oldest DD and I did go to DtD for a couple evening hours-OMG do not take car-hop a resort bus or boat)
Day 12 - up early (for me) and off to DHS-final SWW-DH dropped me off then headed back to condo til rest were ready to come-through fireworks again(hopped to Epcot -love WS)
Day 13- up fairly early for drive to airport and home-due to time difference were back at our house before noon.

We got home and were glad to be home but not exhausted or even really tired. On a long trip it was so very nice to be able to take a break during day, or full day breaks. We did find that 10-12 days is about our "sweet spot" for a vacation. even a day or 2 longer would have been too much, and a couple days less would have left us with not enough. Since we are a family of 5 I am very glad we opted for a condo for the second part-the long trip would NOT have been as enjoyable if we were all still in one room-but that is just our preference:) Next time DH wants to try a DVC resort if we stay onsite-trying to convince we need to do a cruise first...especially as it will likely be at least 2 years before we will want to go back-more new stuff needs to open (will anything be left at Studios? or Epcot Future World?)

We generally do 10 day ticket: 3 MK, 2AK, 2 DHS, 2 Epcot and the last day varies. One full rest day. This trip we are trying out the water parks. Prior trips we spent 1 or 2 days at Sea World.

We usually tour commando -- 40 minutes before rope drop and we stay until closing, unless we have an ADR. We do not usually do EMH, but this time since MK evening EMH falls the night before our rest day, we plan to try it.
Park hopping is mostly for the nights we visit AK during the day, the last day of the trip and to see whatever nighttimes shows get rained out. (Last trip took 3 nights to see Fantasmic!)

1. drive through night arrive 830am, check in, Blizzard Beach
2. Typhoon Lagoon, Chef Mickey
3. Epcot, Coral Reef, illuminations
4. DHS, 50's Prime Time, Frozen FW
5. MK, BOG breakfast 800am, 'ohana dinner
6. AK, Tusker House breakfast, Yak & Yeti dinner, Frozen FW or illuminations if it got rained out
7. MK, CP breakfast 805am
8. AK, Rain Forest Cafe 5:15pm, MK for parade wishes and EMH
9. sleep in, rest, laundry, TREX at 530pm, DTD shops, DisneyQuest
10. water park (which ever gets voted) Kona Cafe 7pm
11 DHS, Sci Fi, Fantasmic
12 MK (characters all morning) BOG dinner, parade or Wishes, or Fantasmic if missed earlier in the trip
13. Epcot, Garden Grill 430 illuminations or fantasmic if missed earlier
14. DHS morning (or water park)/Epcot rest of the day Chefs du France dinner, illuminations or Fantasmic if missed
15. check out, 'ohana bday breakfast -- drive drive drive
16. home

If I had 14 days, I'd spend 7 of them driving out to Anaheim and the other 7 visiting DLR, San Diego and Long Beach.

omg I could never do 14 days at Disney. that's too much planning, too many people, etc. But....IF I did do Disney for 14 days, i'd do 3 days MK, 2 days EPC, 2 days AK, 1 day HS, then i'd do 2 days at Universal and 2 days of sleeping in with no parks.

My trip would be easy

Day One - Cabana Bay - Universal Islands of Adventure
Day Two - Cabana Bay - Universal Studios
Day Three - Cabana Bay - UIA + US
Day Four - Pop Century - Epcot
Day Five - Pop Century - DHS
Day Six - Pop Century - Animal Kingdom
Day Seven - Pop Century - Kennedy Space Center
Day Eight - Pop Century - Rest
Day Nine - Pop Century - Magic Kingdom
Day Ten - Pop Century - Epcot
Day Eleven - Wilderness Lodge - Magic Kingdom
Day Twelve - Wilderness Lodge - Magic Kingdom
Day Thirteen - Wilderness Lodge - DHS
Day Fourteen - Home completely exhausted and broke.

I don't do full park days. I like to spend my nights out of the parks at a movie, dinner show, shopping etc.

Thanks all, very helpful! This will strictly be a Disney trip for us. We have done 10 days in Universal over the past 18 months, and feel we've covered it very thoroughly. I know you could do 2 weeks at Disney every year and not see it all, but these schedules give me some good ideas!

4 day single park tickets + 10 day WP&M Park Hoppers Use the 4 day single park tickets on the first 4 days. DLX Dining (note, probably could trim the tickets down, but the flexibility is worth the slightly higher expense)

Day 1 - Morning flight into MCO, check into CBR, take a bus to EPCOT, wave at SSE and hop a monorail to TTC, take the Ferry in to MK, CRT for lunch, Crystal Palace for dinner, Wishes
Day 2 - Epcot, lunch at Garden Grill, Dinner at Coral Reef, Illuminations
Day 3 - HS, Lunch at Sci Fi, Dinner at 50's Prime Time, Fantasmic
Day 4 - Animal Kingdom, breakfast at Tusker, lunch at Yak and Yeti, dinner at resort (Shutters), swim and watch Illuminations from the hotel pool
Day 5 - Typhoon Lagoon morning, DTD evening, lunch at Rainforest Cafe, dinner at Bongos
Day 6 - Magic Kingdom morning, lunch at Chef Mickeys, hop to Ft. Wilderness for Pony Rides and other activites, Hoop Dee Doo Dinner.
Day 7 - Epcot, lunch at Biergarten, dinner at Akershus, Illuminations
Day 8 - Blizzard Beach morning, Winter Summerland golf, change clothes, Jikos at AKL for dinner
Day 9 - HS, Dine with an Imagineer at Brown Derby for lunch, Mama Melrose for Dinner, Fantasmic
Day 10 - DTD - SHOPPING DAY, Lunch at T-Rex, Dinner at Raglan Road, Cirque de Soleis
Day 11 - Animal Kingdom, lunch at Flame Tree BBQ, hop a bus to Magic Kingdom ride monorail to Poly, Spirit of Aloha Luau late showing for dinner, watch Wishes and the Water Parade from the beach after dinner

Day 13 - Epcot, lunch at Chefs de France, late dinner and Illuminations at Rose and Crown
Day 14 - Check out and use the on site airline check in for my bags, go to Magic Kingdom, lunch at CRT, leave after the 3p parade, late flight out of MCO

We have never done a long trip at Disney. The longest we have spent is 4 days. We have a trip planned in October 2016, tentatively it is 9 days. I'm thinking of extending it to 14, but DH thinks that is too long. When you do 14 days, how do you split up your time? TIA!

How old are your kids? How do they handle being away for long periods of time? That's a long trip and I now know my kids could not do it. We were all tired by about day 7.

But if you want to, I would do 3-4 MK days, 2-3 Epcot days, and 1 day each for HS and AK. I would leave at least 3 days free for resting. Then a couple days to see/do other things.

We are planning 14 days in November, with 10 being the longest we have done prior. We are doing the first 3 at Universal, so that puts us back at Disney for 11 days. We are looking forward to being able to take it SLOW and having a couple of non-park days of relaxing at the Swan, although I'm sure even on those days we may pop into Epcot for dinner or into Studios for Fantasmic (we have AP's for the year). Not sure if we will do a water park; we'll let the weather decide that for us. My main goal with this long of a trip is to be sure to not return home exhausted. My main worry is the four of us being in too tight of a space for that long, but we're taking our chances!

We re doing 14 days next summer.
Day 1-Arrive at US-hang out at the pool, then hit City Walk.
Day 2-Islands of Adventure and pool time
Day 3 Universal Studios and pool time.
Day 4- Pool then head over to POFQ After we settle, hit DTD! (May do Cirque)
Day 5-MK-nap-MK
Day 6-Epcot-nap-HS or Epcot.
Day 7-BB and DTD
Day 8- AK -nap/pool-Epcot
Day 9-HS-Pool-HS
Day 10- MK-pool-MK
Day11-AK-pool-Mk
Day 12-HS-Pool-Epcot
Day 13- HS-Rest (pack)-MK
DAY 14 -Early ADR in MK, everyone rides favorite, cry on the way to airport.

I love doing the long trips because we can take those breaks and not feel like we are going to crash by the end of the trip. We also do RD almost every day.
