Give me the truth about those costumes

I've heard rumors so many times that those character costumes at Disney are air conditioned but I just don't see how that would work. But after seeing my husband come out of a character costume at the elementary school carnival, a sweaty mess on a cool day, I just don't know how any CM survives it on a hot day in Florida! So how do they bear it?

Based on conversations with CMs I know, the costumes are not air conditioned. That is why they can only stay out for a few minutes at a time during the hotter months. You will often see a character leave and then return moments later. There are actually two of the character and they are trading off for cooling periods.

Oh my God! They're CLONES!!???!??!?

The truth is that they are not costumes :confused3

Dogs - Pluto and Goofy pant through their mouths
Ducks - Donald and Daisy take a dip in the lake
Mice - Mickey and Minnie suffer and try to stay indoors
Princesses - drink lots of water and use deoderant :rotfl2:
Etc.

They aren't air conditioned and there aren't "cool suits."

I believe that in the hot months, the regulations are "out for 10, in for 50." They do rotate CM's in the fur costumes. I think the 'face' characters can be out a little longer in hotter months. I have yet to see a sweaty princess, so they must use AMAZING makeup!

My cousin worked at MK when he was part of the College Program. He wasn't a character but had friends that were. He sold the light up toys at night during parades/fireworks.

I wonder why they don't throw some sort of cooling suit (or something of the like) in there. I'm not talking high-tech stuff, but maybe something like the little boo-boo packs you put in the freezer for when your kiddo scrapes his/her knees?

The one I feel sorry for is the Fairy Godmother. I have a similar costume from the same fabric, and it was hot in JANUARY! I think that must be the same stuff they make astronaut warming blankets from! It traps heat something fierce!:scared1:

Those costumes just look like a sweatbox...even in the colder months

The official rule is 20 in and 20 out during the summer, according to the CM for the backstage tours.

Take it from a girl who washed those costumes....they stink! :rotfl:
