I just got off the phone with my friend who is a bit of a drama queen. He was never happy here living in St. Louis after moving from Chicago. It is really annoying how much he puts down my fair city, but for the sake of friendship I bit my tongue.

Today he tells me that while he lived here he felt weighed down by the negative energy in St. Louis. He believes this is because of the exorcism that was performed here. I finally said to him, "did you ever think that it was your own negativity towards the city that made you unhappy here. You were constantly comparing it to Chicago instead of seeing it for what it was?" - NOPE! It has to be that all of us in St. Louis are miserable people because of the exorcism. You have got to be kidding me!

The only other time I ever said anything was when he insulted my beloved Busch Stadium by calling it a POS. I went off.

So did he move back to Chicago then? For your sake I hope he did. I don't like the area I grew up in, but out of respect for my family still living there I don't bash it.

One city is not right for everyone. Maybe you could politely ask him to have enough respect for you and your freindship to let this drop.

Good luck.

Yes he did move back to Chicago about 6 months ago.

When he talked bad about Busch stadium I sort of made a point to him that I didn't appreciate it. I don't insult Wrigley field, leave Busch Stadium out of it. Of course no one can insult Wrigley - it's an original! Well Busch Stadium is where my Dad took me when I was kid. It is where some of my happiest memories are of my parents who took me to a ball game for my birthday. I cried last month when I went to my last game at Busch. He said he was sorry for his comment - but obiviously it hasn't sank in that I don't want to hear it period.

I like the St. Loius area if that makes you feel better.

I hear similar comments, minus the exorcism thing, from people around here. We get a lot of executives moving in and out of our small town for the major employers here. Some of them find they like the slower paced life here, but a lot of them think we are uneducated hicks (never mind that 75% of our adult population have a bachelor degree or higher). They constantly complain about everything here to the point I just say, "no one is forcing you to stay here".

So that's the negative energy I've been feeling since April......it explains alot;)

Tell him St. Louis says good riddance and don't let the door hit his a$$ on the way out!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

:rotfl2: That's quite amusing. Uh, ok. Glad he left. We don't need him. And no one puts down Busch stadium. I admit. I was getting a bit teary eyed at the last regular season game. OMG, when Ozzie tore down the #1. I know it's not the end though because it'll be there through a few playoff games. But, still the end is near. I'm very sad about it. I didn't care at all about the old Arena (not a hockey fan though), but this is making me sad.

Good ridance to him I say. I have traveled a lot of places in my life and have tried to never rag on someone elses hometown. I learned that lesson many years ago when living in Texas we were inundated by people leaving northern states to come to Texas, for jobs, a better life, and more opportunity. Once they got here a lot of them just complained that everything was stupid, we did things wrong and how much they hated it. From those experiences I have learned that the last thing you want to do is slam anybody's hometown. Everywhere I have ever been has redeeming qualities and reasons people would want to live there. In the end it's a matter of personal choice. Just don't let you dipleasure with your choice be a reason to rag on my choice.

I never understand how anyone can rip another's city (or school, for that matter).. It's home to that person. I would defend my dear Tampa should it be suggested to be inferior, but it would never occur to me to knock anyone's home as inferior to mine, anymore than I woudl anyone's ethnicity

St. Louis is one of my favorite places. I love their zoo. The Hill has awesome Italian restaurants. Laclede's Landing is a fun place to hang. Also like Union Station. The list goes on. :)

When we went to get my son at Ft. Leonardwood we went up to St. Louis to go to the arch. It was real cool! I never realized there was that museum and such underneath it. Looking out from the top was amazing. I got some great pics!

On the way back we stopped in what is I guess the italian section and had the best steak and cheese sub ever! LOL

St. Louis is a must see. I wish we could have spent more time there.

How dare he say anything bad about a place I've lived almost my whole life! :sad2:

I, too, am really going to miss Busch Stadium.

Not every city is right for everyone. Some people also can't deal with being somewhere that isn't 'home.' While it's rude to constantly harp on it and the exorcism comments are just silly I have been on the other end of people's narrowmindness when it comes to their hometowns.

I completely think your friend is over the top but it is hard to be in a new place and homesick and everyone telling you how great the new place is. It can seem like they are knocking your old place when that isn't really the case.

I'm not saying you or St Louis is anything like this but I know when I moved to Portland Oregon I was faced with a lot of non-native prejudgeces and that madem y experience there less that great.

In any case, good for your for telling your friend your feelings. He sounds a bit over the top to me. Hopefully this is a good reminder to be good "guests' when we relocate and good 'hosts' to people moving into our cities.

For me it wasn't so much about negative energy as it is about what High School you went to. Don't miss that. I hated it. St. Louisans know what I am talking about.

OH! And go Cards. I heard they won game 1!

St. Louis is a pretty happening town. I have enjoyed some cool concerts there, and enjoyed the time I spent there. I also have several friends there and I'm pretty sure they haven't suffered any bad effects from negative energy. :)

Ah yes the famous - where did you go to high school. :) It is sort of weird how by knowing the location of one's high school I can figure out pretty accurately your household income, and will know a long list of stereotypes. I went to Oakville high school - I found out later in life what was thought of Oakville girls. Needless to say they arent' true for me. Sorry you had a tough time with that.

Cards won game one 8 to 5. :)

You clearly know that what he's really talking about is his unhappiness with himself ... and you're enough of a sweetheart to help him through it, as much as he bashes fair St. Louie :) I respect that.
