Just watched NCB Nightly News.

They said the new colon cancer drug Erbitux is going to be priced at $12,000 per month!

Another new colon cancer drug, Avastin, is priced at $4,400 a bottle!

How terrible!

The broadcast was followed by yet anothere Presidential campaign commercial with a negative tone. I'm sure the commercial cost in excess of $100,000. I don't care if I ever see or hear another one of these. The money could be better spent elsewhere.

Frustrating, to say the least!

If this were posted on the Debate Board - about the outrageous cost of medications - I'm sure someone would come along shortly to tell you that if you don't have adequate health insurance to cover it - or you didn't use your crystal ball umpteen years ago to "prepare" for all possible health related expenses that might come your way -- well - then you're just tough out of luck!

People with excellent health care coverage - and/or wealthy people -will get the drug.. The rest will just have to die..

Sad, isn't it?:(

I love our health insurance but I hope I never get colon cancer.

$12,000 is just awful. The drug company couldn't even give a valid reason as to why the drug costs that much. I'm sure they price it at what they think insurance companies will pay. I'm sure anyone who has to have this drug will be dropped by their insurance company if they ever get better.

I was so excited when they started the report. My brother died of colon cancer and I thought this would give someone hope. I only hope those who need the drug can get it.

I saw the same report. It made me sick to my stomach. The company that developed the drug was....Imclone.

ITA. DH and I have good health insurance (he works for a major pharmaceutical company so you'd expect it to be good). However, even with good insurance we still have to pay 7% for prescriptions. This would do us in as well. Something really needs to be done about this. I understand the drug companies have a limited window on the patent and need to recoup the R&D expediture and then turn a profit but this kind of pricing just screams greed  .

My Dad died a horribly painful death from colon cancer so I understand your frustration.. When my dad was undergoing chemo, a single injection was several thousand dollars every two weeks.. Fortunately he had insurance and although it didn't work, he would have had NO chance at all if he were in different circumstances..

For 9 months Brittany's first winter, she needed synagist. $1500.00 a month.

I was lucky, our insurance covered it under major medical. Lots of preemie's had no coverage under their insurance.

umm...Folks...

Do you know how much the research cost to come up with these kind of drugs?

Nope - can't say that I do.. I imagine it's a fairly hefty amount..

BUT - could YOU afford to pay that amount if your insurance didn't cover it - or there was a cap on your policy?

Like I said - some people will be able to benefit from it - and the rest will just have to die...

Oh well..
