HI:
I don't know if any of you know the answer to this question. If I express interest in a volunteer opportunity that can be completed at home do I need to express interest for every member of the family? It states that it's a great family project but I only sent interest for myself and stated my family would be interested in helping too.

How did you find one that could be completed at home? We were only able to find one in our area. Still waiting to hear from them.

Hi:
It's making blankets at home for a crisis center. I'm imagining they don't have the room for volunteers to bring the material in and work there. It is located 30 miles from our house so we'll be able to hand deliver them.

I didn't do anything special to find it. It was in our local search.

Was this Project Linus? That's what I signed us up for. I was a bit confused because I just have to drop the blankets off by a certain day. So, I filled out the form for that specific date (in Feb) and used 8:00 am to 5:00 pm as the time. I would like to drop them off sooner than that if possible. I hope I did that right and it doesn't get messed up by me completing them sooner. Anyone else do the same?

I also signed up for Project Linus (Its a project we work for once a month thru our church)

It was confusing - I signed up got the email, listed our family - and then got an email from the site coordinator - that's when I found out that its in a different county - and she said she only is requiring 1 blanket per volunteer, she believes she will get more, by asking for less!!

(at our church in a 3 - 5 hour period we have a system, 1 person cuts, and other people tie the knots - so we can easily get 6 - 8 blankets done per person - we have specs for baby blankets, juvenile, and teenage - and we buy fleece for the variety - its NOT the 2 blanket either - the hospitals here only want the 1 layer)

I wonder if you could just mail the blankets to the Linus coordinator? Someone on another thread saw an opportunity outside her area (cant remember if it was for Linus, or something similiar) She contacted her local person who didnt know all she had to do was fill out an additional online form - now her local chapter is listed!!

We are also doing blankets for Project Linus (in IL). They are requesting two handmade blankets or four preemie blankets per person. It was about $18 for the fleece to make 4 preemie blankets, plus I will have to pay for shipping since it is over 60 miles each way to the nearest place to drop them off. Of course, the fleece could have been cheaper, but I sprung for a really pretty bright blue fleece with Lightning McQueen on it. Disney themed seemed appropriate

You may wish to call or email the coordinator to see if they have a specific need. The person in our area said they really needed boy blankets since more people donate girl themed ones (we did the preemie ones).

My chapter (search zip code 61761) was happy to accept mailed ones. The preemie ones require a serger, but there are lots of options for making the two handmade blankets. There are directions on their website for no-sew ones (their directions on the website for no-sew ones do not use knots--they prefer ones that aren't knotted).

I just picked next Saturday and figured I'd drop them off on Monday. I'll call the coordinator on Monday and see if this is acceptable. I was planning on doing the two fleece one. I'll have to check on that too!

Just remember its 2 per person. Also check and see if you both have to be there at drop off. Although YMMV by location.

I'am the parks and recreation director at a small community near Branson, Mo. and trying to get intouch with a dis mgr to see how I can offer this for my volunteers ? any one have any ideas where to search ? for a contact person at wdw ? thanks

The chapter coordinator of Project Linus in our area has gotten such a huge response from the Disney promo that she is asking folks to be patient while she sets up more volunteer opportunities at her Make a Blanket Day event in February. She would actually prefer people wait and volunteer their time then. Of course she will accept blankets now, but I think she has been so slammed with offers, she's feeling overwhelmed.

You have to remember that many folks who coordinate these types of programs do so out of their homes, and scrambling to accomodate a huge glut of donations all at once may not be an easy task.

Case in point: we dropped off so many books and stuffies at our local Project Night Night chapter not long ago (a well set up workshop in a garage, but a garage nonetheless) that I know the coordinator was flustered. She was waiting for tote bags, which were backordered, before she could assemble packages and we completely overflowed her storage capacity.

I'd just advise being patient and offering to do whatever your local coordinator needs most. What may be true for one location, may not be for another location.

I just received a download from our organization and it's one blanket per person. I'm sure I"ll have extra fleece and donate as many as I can make with it! They also suggested either 36 x 36 size or 40 x 60.

I signed up for Project Linus also. My contact sent me this info:

Make 1 blanket per family member. Older children and parents can assist the younger children. You could also include handmade cards made by smaller children. Everyone can help shop for the materials.

Take photos of each family member (individually or as a group) helping with the project (purchasing supplies, making blankets, etc.)

Include a note from family members detailing how each participated.

My family went to purchase the fleece today. We took pictures picking out our fabric. The sales lady thought we were NUTS!!!!
