give a day..project linus question

Hi all: how do you find the chapters of Project Linus that you can mail the blankets into. They have none in my area...actually they had one but it was only there for one day before it was filled??? I didn't get it. Anyway, we have lots of fleece and would love to do these for a worthy project.

It's not even ths ticket...DH has been out of work for over a year, we aren't going to get the WDW anytime soon. I want o donate the tickets to charity I read you can do that.

And if anyone can direct me to the project for the soldiers I'd appreciate that as well. DSIL is a Marine due to deploy to Afganistan next month.

Thanks!

We are signed up to do 4 blankets, 1 per person through our local chapter. I made my daughter a gymnastics no-sew for Christmas and she LOVES it, so I thought they would enjoy doing this.....

For the blanket kits at Joanns - are they pre-cut? Thinking probably not, but that sure would be nice!!! :) Great deals, though and I think I'll get these even if they aren't pre-cut..... thanks for the linlk!

hi
we did these blankets a few years ago with my Brownie troop and the fringe isn't precut, but they had lines marked which made the cutting very easy. the price is right and they are pretty cute. I received 4 of the 5 I need yesterday so we will be able to get started this weekend!

I found mine on the Disney GAD site. When you enter your zip code, after the opportunities come up, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. At the bottom you wil see a link that says something like "click here for more opportunities wiht HandsOn Network". Follow the link and it should bring up all kinds of organizations. Thats where I found the Project Linus in York ME where I am donating my blankets to.

From my post on the previous page:

If you go to the GAD website and put in either walt disney world, fl or disneyland, ca, the national chapter for Project Linus comes up. I did it yesterday and got an email back almost immediately, with information on how to register and once I did that, I got another email with the specific directions as well as how to make the blankets; one per person and you have to do it within 60 days and include pictures when you mail them.

thanks to those who replied, guess I didn't look down far enough last time!

Good project for tomorrow while my older daughter is home from college! :yay:

does anyone know if you can get a GAD ticket for a child younger than 6? DD is almost 4 and would help with the blankets as much as I suspect a 6 yo would. Do they ask for proof of age or anything? We'll be in Florida (not disney) later in the year and if we all had free passes, it would be worth it for us to take a ride over to disney. Not so much if I had to buy DD one.

I signed up to make blankets for a chapter in Pendleton, In (which is about 45 miles from home) they only required 1 blanket per person and was the closest to here that I could find. After I had made my commitment to them, an opportunity came up here in Kokomo... however, they wanted 2 blankets per person. I figured this way... I am already commited to Penleton and it will be cheaper to deliver them there than to make double the amount of blankets. They were fun to make and go to a very worthy cause... if it wasn't for the cost involved (almost $10 per) I would make more just to donate. I used the method where you cut a small slit and flip the fringe thru. I also used the pinking shears to give them a nicer look. I had never done anything like this before and was very nervous to start, but I had fun with them. Even got so involved that I made one for a co-worker that is expecting!!

No, you can't

Yes, valid government issued ID is required to redeem the GAD vouchers for Disney passes. For young children that means a passport or a birth certificate.

Sounds like this promo might not work very well for you then. Sorry

Thanks for the info. The lines will help a lot as the measuring out is what takes forever!!! I just ordered ours and hopefully they will be here soon as we only have until Feb. 20th to finish them!. We have to do "teen" size of 72", so I couldn't get the $9.99 kits but I did get a couple Spiderman ones for $12.49 and a couple of the $14.99 ones..... used free shipping, too. Great deal for 4 vouchers!!! :)

I tried to do the books thing, but was told by the head of the group that I couldn't do that option since I had opporunities within 100 miles :confused3
I had three odd ones 85 miles out..very glad I finally found a Project Linus.. I have an AP and really don't need the ticket..just wanted to participate.
Good luck..as OP have posted, try getting into the Disneyworld area offers.

Are the tickets you get regular tickets that you could use in a few years or do they have to be used this year?

Your receive a voucher that is redeemed at a will call window. The ticket must be used the same day it is redeemed. This can be done until 12/15/10.

 I am NOT a happy camper right now...I spent my weekend baking for Habitat for Humanity...was told to drop them off tonight at a church a good 25 miles from my house...went there and there was NO ONE there! Really nice...roads aren't great...and then no one is there.

It is like 25 miles to Northfield, but it isn't good driving to get there, it is country roads that are icky and icy. But who knows. Now I am waiting for her to contact me, I left a message and e-mailed her. Just upsets me that I spent an hour in the car to do that to have no one there. So we will see, I will keep you posted! It is just rude. :headache:

That was terrible!! Sorry you drove all that way and made all that food!

Here is the response I got: I am sorry that you drove down for nothing. Somebody took down the note explaining where to leave the cookies. We were not in because of the snow day. We are in all day Wednesday and Thursday. If nobody is here just leave them outside our office door on the second level, the church is open from 9-6 on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

So now my DH will have to leave work early tomorrow to get there to make a second attempt at delivering them.
