give a day..project linus question

Houston would be closest to me, but there isn't a local chapter. The one in Dallas will accept mail in blankets. They ask for two blankets per participant at least 48" by 60" preferably single layer fleece. I just signed up. I'll post more when I get more details.

How do you make the fleece no sew blankets?

There are no sew patterns on the Linus website. My DH made one where you basically just cut fringe, slice a little hole at the top and pull the fringe through. His is a big boy one, pirates, and mine is crocheted, about 30 x 36. I can see where the bigger sizes would certainly have a bigger need..I don't know how long it would take me to crochet one though :) for the OP whose sone got one..was his fleece or crocheted?

I got my response to my interest last night. They had attached a document to the email with very clear instructions. Looks extremely easy.

The blanket that my 13 year old son received was a double layer fleece. One side was black and the other side was an orange/flame pattern.

Just a Thank You to all those making these blankets.

This fall my DD was very sick in the hospital when a kind volunteer brought one in to her. It put a smile on her face. :goodvibes I was so grateful to the people who made such a nice gift possible.

She still keeps it on her bed at home. Very pretty - pink cotton quilt with flowers and ribbons.

Thank you all. :flower3:

I just signed up with the Macon, Ga group. You have to get the blankets in by Feb 14th, but they can be 30x36 2 per person, and the only restriction is to use 100% cotton or fleece and quilts must be 3 layers.

Thanks! I just signed up for this one! Very happy to find something closer to home where the whole family could help!

To those who have already made their no sew blankets, did you use a rotary cutter? I was thinking of using pinking shears, since that is how I have seen the no sew blankets.

We did this a few weeks ago. There wasn't anything that my chronically ill son could do locally. We mailed (from Vancouver, Canada) to Vancouver, Washington. The rep was amazing to deal with. They required 2- 40 x 60 or 3- 36 x36 blankets. One side fleece. We did no sew. Four in our family (the baby didn't do one :)) sent in 10 blankets. Material and shipping cost us a little over $110 canadian. Most of our blankets are larger and most of them are for boys. Since I have boys they liked that fabric. We did things like pirates, cars, hockey, sports etc. I took us about 12 hours total time with shipping, shopping and cutting. We are going to use the GAD tickets for fast passes, something no amount of money can usually buy! OH also our sons have NO IDEA at all that they are getting something in return. They don't even know we are going on vacation! I thought it was a better lesson for them this way.

Our local chapter is requiring 2 blankets (48x60) single layer fleece. They are the Tarrant/Parker Co branch - near Fort Worth, TX. We will most likely be mailing them in. There are three of us signed up and planning to do a movie/blanket making night one Friday night!

I didn't have a rotary cutter, then found one..I think for scrapbooking..little hand held thing..and my DH said it didn't work worth a hoot (ok..those weren't his exact words..) so he just used regular scissors. I don't know if pinking shears would work..maybe too many bumpy edges to pull the fringe through neatly?

We couldn't get our rotatary cutter to work either. DH used an exacto knife and a metal pattern 1x4 in that he made. I used a scissors and piece of paper cut to 1x4 for my pattern. Worked well. We'd race to see who finished cutting their edges first. The kids did all of the tying. Great project. :thumbsup2

Do all the No Sew fleece blankets have to have Fringe on them?? I have a ton of cotton Spider Man fabric can I applique a spidy on the blanket??

We also plan to make the no-sew blankets. My daughters have received more than 10 (combined) over the years, most recently, my youngest received one on Tues of this week (along with a stuffed Minnie :lovestruc) while in the hospital.

Our local chapters require 2 blankets per person.

For those who made had to mail the blankets, can you please advise how you mailed the package and what was the cost?

Thanks!

I got an email from JoAnn's that shows fleece on sale for 40% off and flat shipping of $5.00
The code for shipping is ELD40 and is only good till 2/9/10

If you go to the GAD website and put in either walt disney world, fl or disneyland, ca, the national chapter for Project Linus comes up. I did it yesterday and got an email back almost immediately, with information on how to register and once I did that, I got another email with the specific directions as well as how to make the blankets; one per person and you have to do it within 60 days and include pictures when you mail them.

This was perfect. You get several other project from home options - such as collecting and mailing books for troops, etc.

Thank you!

I am doing fleece no sew blankets for the York County ME chapter. They are only requiring one per person signed up. I bought no sew fleece kits at Joann.com for $9.99 each (two sides, 48" size) they also have larger ones for $14.99 each and some Disney themed ones. There's a free shipping code out there; don't remember what I used but it's easy to find on google.

I am not telling everyone to do this, just telling what happened to me at Joann's today.
I was looking for fleece for my grandson who wanted a new blanket for nursary school.
I found the fabric that he wanted but there was about 2 yards on it and I only needed 1. I wasn't sure the cutter would cut me 1 yard and leave less than a yard for the sale bin.
She suggested that I buy 1/2 yard at the regular price and she would give me the rest of the fabric for 75% off since it was the end of the bolt.
So I got 1/2 yard for $5.00 and 1 1/4 yard for 2.50.
I paid less for a bit less than 2 yards than I would have paid for the 1 yard I needed.
I am not doing the project Linus since they require 6 double sided blankets that are 60" X 70" here. I have an AP and was only going to donate my ticket to someone else anyhow. Sorry someone who might need a ticket....

We are signed up to do 4 blankets, 1 per person through our local chapter. I made my daughter a gymnastics no-sew for Christmas and she LOVES it, so I thought they would enjoy doing this.....

For the blanket kits at Joanns - are they pre-cut? Thinking probably not, but that sure would be nice!!! :) Great deals, though and I think I'll get these even if they aren't pre-cut..... thanks for the linlk!
