Is there a phone number to call if you have an issue with the Give a Day promotion? By issue, I mean that we showed up for our volunteer opportunity last night and were turned away (rather rudely, I might add).

We got a confirmation from Hand on Network when we signed up for the event. Then more recently, we got a reminder email that included the time, date, event, coordinator, and our names. It said if we had questions to call a the event coordinator (which I did call, for directions).

We showed up at the hospital last night (it was an allergy workshop) and when I said we were there to volunteer, the woman gave me quite a surprised look. She was not very polite (...well, that's an understatement). She first asked "Well, who are you???" I told her, and she of course didn't check a list or anything. I told her we signed up through Hand on Network through Disney, and got a confirmation email. She came over to me and proceeded to tell me that the program had ended and that we needed to sign before, and that she needed to get our names from Hands On and she would have contacted us.

I asked her if she wanted to see the confirmation email that I had with me. She said yes, but when I tried to show her the email, wouldn't look at it (literally put her hands up in the air like "not touching that" and shook her head). She refused to read the email, and refused to check a list to see if our names were on it. I kept saying that we had signed up, had gotten a confirmation, etc. and she kept telling me that the program had ended, etc.

Finally, she looked at me and paused then said, in quite a rude, childish way "Do you understand what I'm saying??? It's over, you didn't sign up." In my stubborness I responded "I understand perfectly" (with a nice smile :) ). Then I added that you really don't need to talk to me that way...she responded by walking away, and yelling across the room (in front of all the other volunteers) that "YOU don't need to talk to ME that way!" I admit I was very frustrated...but I wasn't yelling, I was only frustrated that she wouldn't even look at the email, or check a list, or anything!!! She had no answers other than to immediately start telling me that the program was over and that we obviously didn't sign up.

In the car, my husband made the point that "how would 3 adults know to show up at a hospital at 6:00 pm, on the 6th floor, on a Thursday, and say they were there to volunteer if they didn't sign up for it???" I have to agree.

My husband is calling Hands On Network as we speak, but we were wondering if there is a number to contact the Disney representatives for this program? We would just like to talk to someone about the experience that we had (or unfortunately, didn't have).

I'm not sure calling Disney would help at all. I think you need to deal with this through that Hands on Network thing.

It turns out the org I helped did not verify I was there. It took me about four weeks to realize this. They did admit they made a mistake and I was there.

BUT, now it is to late to get my voucher because there are none left.

If the volunteer organization did not have your names and did not allow you to volunteer, you might be out of luck. Did you go back into Disney.com and register after you got a date and time from the hospital? I wonder if there was a glitch in your registration. A couple things from the FAQs that may or may not apply to your situation (it's not exactly your situation, but it's the closest I could find):

I searched for an opportunity, and was prompted to contact the organization to arrange a date and time to volunteer. I was then supposed to return to this web site and proceed to sign up for that opportunity, including entering the date and time I agreed to volunteer. I've heard back from the organization and we agreed to a date and time to volunteer, but when I returned to Disneyparks.com, the site would not allow me to sign up or register for this volunteer activity. Can I still sign-up and earn a ticket?

Sorry, but no. Only those volunteers who completed their sign-up at DisneyParks.com by submitting a registration form with the specific date and time of their commitment before the program ended are eligible for the program. We hope you will still choose to volunteer with that organization and we appreciate your interest in the "Give a Day. Get a Disney Day." program.

If the organization that I have committed to volunteer with on this website cancels my volunteer opportunity, will I still be able to serve and be eligible for the "Give a Day. Get a Disney Day." program?

If the organization cancels your opportunity, they should contact you within 5 days to propose a new date and time for you to volunteer with that organization. If you are unable to commit to a rescheduled date and time and complete your service within 30 days of your originally scheduled date, you will no longer be eligible to participate in the program.

When you access your account at the Disney site, does it say that you are signed up and fully registered? If so, I'd contact Hands On and let them know what happened. You might be able to do something else at the hospital (for someone else other than the person who gave you a hard time). I don't have a phone number, but here is the link to the contact form:

Thanks for the response. I'll have my husband check. He signed up through his Disney account.

I think we were confirmed though, as we got the initial confirmation email, and then a second email less than a week before the event.

It wasn't one that you had to call and get the information just to sign up...it was actually on the site, so the other situation you mentioned shouldn't apply, I'd hope.

If you were signed up on time and completed your volunteer service, you have already been counted. Check out this from the FAQ:

What do I do if I never receive notification of my verification of service?

Please allow up to 2 weeks for email verification for your activity from Disney. You can log on to your account from this site to check the status of your volunteer activity as well. If you have not received any communication or seen the status of your volunteer activity change after 2 weeks, please contact the Guest Support Team for assistance. Please keep in mind that if you signed up for the program as part of a household, verification emails are sent to the lead volunteer.

You can contact GAD at the link I posted above if you registered and completed your service but were not verified within two weeks.

That stinks!!! They should honor it, it wasn't your fault!

In a way, that's kinda what we are dealing with. We showed up, asking to volunteer, and were basically told to leave. We did what we were supposed to do. And now they most likely won't honor that committment. Very frustrating.

Just a heads up to anyone that signed up and is still waiting to volunteer...I would call the coordinator before the event, to ensure that they have your name.

Wow, sorry you had such a hard time with those folks. We volunteered for Project Linus in New Jersey. We made our blankets at home, then just drove down to drop them off. Our contact was great, dropping the blankets off was quick and easy, and we have our vouchers ready to go.

I would have loved to have done that, but it apparently wasn't available in our area (we had very limited selection, within a 1 1/2-2 hour radius). It's a pretty small city.

When we volunteered, we got several e-mails from Hands On. The first was "Thank you for expressing interest . . . you will be contacted by the organization." The next was "Thanks for Signing Up to Volunteer - we're thrilled you have signed up to volunteer with . . . " The third was "Reminder - It's almost time for your Give a Day Get a Disney Day Program Volunteer Opportunity" - this came the morning of our volunteer service. The fourth was "Thank you for Volunteering" - sent the day after we volunteered. Then we got one from Disney Destinations saying that our free tickets were only a few clicks away (6 days after volunteering).

If you got the second one "Thanks for signing up to volunteer", then you should be fully registered. You should have gotten a reminder in advance of your service (our third e-mail), which it kind of sounds like you did.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we did. They went to my husbands account, so I can't check right now, but we definitely got the third one (he forwarded that to me).

It's actually not too late. If you signed up before the 1 million volunteers then all the organization needs to do is resubmit the paperwork. I had the same issue. I should have gotten my vouchers yesterday. So I emailed and called Disney, and I re-emailed the contact woman from the volunteering so they could get it all squared away!

I registered some Scouts to do an event and we put "scouts only" on the registration form. we were soon told that we could not pick our volunteers, so we made sure everyone registered quickly and then closed the registration. We ended up with some people that were not scouts and we put them to work in a different area.

it sounds like they just wanted their group to register and were going to ignore everyone else and got caught when you showed up.

Yeah, we have our theories...mostly derived from the looks of surprise she and the girl sitting with her gave us when we showed up...along with the fact that she refused to look at the email or check any sort of list and started right at me with quite the attitude....

Yes, everyone telling you this is correct! Contact Disney or Hands-on-Network (or both) and your co-ordinator who can confirm you did volunteer. That voucher WAS put aside for you and you can get it.

I've moved this thread to the Promotions and Celebrations board. :)

They are not out of vouchers.

In fact, there is still almost a month and a half of volunteering to be done for people that were registered before the registrations were stopped.

ONLY REGISTRATIONS HAVE BEEN HALTED.

For the OP, it sounds to me like this person just didn't want to deal with volunteers any more and was using the "program has closed" as an excuse with no understanding. Dealing with Disney and/or HoN is the correct course of action.

I hope you're able to get this squared away. I had a problem with my volunteer event also, and I tried contacting Hands On Network, but they never replied to my multiple emails or phone calls. Eventually, I was able to work it out with the organization looking for volunteers, so I was able to complete an event and get my voucher. Hands On Network really should have done more research on the companies that were posting volunteer events. And I think Disney should have picked a different organization from Hands On, since they ignored me!

I sent a message through the link above with specific info. Hope it works.

I understand mistakes happen, but a voicemail I received yesterday from the event leader started to take the tone of it being my fault because I did not let her know about the mistake in time verses her admitted fault for not verifing me in the system.
