Second, this is just another effort by Disney to get people to the parks. So they don't have to pay one day of their ticket. They are still going to pay for more days, hotel rooms, food, souvenirs etc. It is a marketing ploy dressed up in do-gooder clothing.
Disney is making out on this one big time. They get to write off all those hours that you all are going to work and all their giving up is a 1 day pass. It is a great deal if you live in the 1 day range of WDW.
However if you use this on a 1 week vacation your saving about $2 for a days work. Not sure about you but I already work for beans in the USAF and I just don't see any benefits for me with this program. Sorry to bust your bubble, and I love Disney.
Of course it's a marketing ploy. They are, after all, a business. It's no different a marketing ploy than the 'get-in-free-on-your-birthday' campaign. In the same sense, they know no one comes to the park by themselves on their birthday. They're making a lot of money off of a single day's worth of birthdays - every single day. That's how a business operates. Their goal IS to make money. As much as you'd like to think Disney's one and only goal in life was to make you happy, the guy had to make money in order to keep it going. Remember, Disney's profit is down!
I see nothing wrong, and in fact, I love the idea, that they are combining their "marketing ploy" with something that can actually affect even a day's worth of volunteerism in someone. If you ask any of the non-profits involved, I'm sure that they're head over their heels to hear that they could be seeing thousands more volunteers in their organizations. A lot of them might never get
any kind of recognition without a name like Disney to back it. I'm sure that they're thankful for even a day's worth of extra help.
Disney is making a great move here. I can't wait to volunteer, even if, as yekcoh_99 put it, I'm only gaining $2 a day worth of savings. Sure, there may be no benefits for
you, but I think this one is meant to go a little beyond "me" with this campaign.
Trust me, I don't think their goal is to "trick" you (marketing ploy) into have a Disney vacation. You're going to have one regardless. They're just giving you an extra incentive to do it, while trying to get some work done, too.
Edited to Add: I personally love this idea because it appears as if you get to choose your freebie day. While I loved the birthday campaign, it was hard to get people to come with me on MY birthday (a random Tuesday) if they didn't have an annual pass, a day off, lived too far, etc.
With this one, families and friends can volunteer together (or not together), and then plan a vacation (whether it be a day or a week) and everyone can go together! Excellent.
