I have been searching for a Give a Day opportunity for myself, my daughter, and our friends to volunteer for. Most of the ones that will allow children to participate in are during the weekday when the kids are in school.

It's getting very frustrating!

It's not something that is working out for our family either.

You can look for one that allows you to mail in a project instead of doing something onsite. I know many here are doing blankets for Project Linus. We did a book drive for the USO. We were told to collect 6-8 books per person, from a list they provided, but we ended up with (I think) 72 books for the 5 of us. The books could be new or "gently" used. I sent them to a USO base in Qatar. Nothing was showing for my area (central MS) but I read on another site to type in Normal, IL and mail-in projects would be available. There was also an opportunity to do Haiti care kits.

We mailed the books, and within the week had our vouchers ready to print. And we had a lot of fun doing it.

You can get more ideas on the GAD board, under the theme parks board on this site.

Nothing in my town either - I live in rural MS. :(

I live in rural GA and was able to do a Project Linus opportunity. We made 4 blankets and I took them to Macon, GA (much larger city). I could have also mailed them. Look for a PL that will let you mail them in (maybe even the one in Macon, GA!)

Some promotions fit some families and some fit others. Disney can't accomodate everyone all the time. If you are really interested in volunteering as a family, then I'm sure there are opportunities out there, just maybe not for GAD. Do the GAD for a free ticket for yourself, and then take your daughter to volunteer at another organization.:goodvibes

Disappointed in the promotion here too. There is just nothing available close to us, and we live in a pretty good sized metro area. Most of our opportunities are at least 50 miles away.

We give dozens of hours a month to our church and I coach youth baseball. I would rather stay happy with my charity work than to do something that my heart isn't set on doing to save a few bucks on a Disney ticket.

Once I did the math, we are doing the 5 day promotion with the gift card, to add a 6th day is only an additional $9 total. It really isn't worth $9 to us.

We are another family that did Project Linus blankets and mailed them in. There wasn't a good opportunity available in the Tulsa area, but when I typed in OKC, the Project Linus opportunity popped up. Very easy, and so much fun to do, I think we may continue making and donating blankets to them. My DD was recently in the hospital having scoliosis correction surgery, and she received two blankets while she was there. One was a bit too young and boyish for a 12 year old girl (It was green with cartoon bugs, and we decided to include it with our donation, so another child might be able to have it.), but the other one was lavender with a Tinkerbell applique, and she loved it! It felt so good for all of us to give back by making blankets for other kids. A free day at Disney is just icing on the cake! :)

Me, too. Nothing within an hour of me-everything is in Jackson or Hattiesburg. Did you see my other post about other options?

We are doing the gift card promotion, too. We are using the vouchers for FPs. There are 5 of us, so 5 days of extra fast passes will be wonderful!
