Giuseppi's and HHI dining question

I noticed through my Hotwire savings website (restaurant.com) that I can get a $25 certificate for Giuseppi's at HHI for only $10. That's a pretty good deal -- but how is the food there? THe cert is good for 1 year from date of issue, and we have a fam of 5 so I have no doubt our food bill most anywhere would be $25 or more (sometimes these places don't offer cash-back on a certificate -- gotta read your fine print!) We're going to HHI in Aug and I thought it might be nice to get a nice discount on dinner one night (but only if it's good!)

Absolutely fab pizza and Italian dishes. One of our favorites and so close to the resort.

That sounds like a good deal. We enjoy Giuseppi's and eat there on every trip to HH. It's not fancy, but has good sandwiches and pizza. There is a 10% discount for guests at the DVC resort (just use your room key as ID). It's nearby the resort (you can walk, but it's a bit far in summer heat) and does offer carryout service as well as dine-in. There is seating inside and also some outside under umbrella tables.

We have also enjoyed Calahan's and Fratello's, but have not eaten at either for several years.

Well, I went ahead bit the bullet and bought a certificate -- wow, I got 15% off too, so it only cost me $8.50 for a $25 certificate! You have to spend $35 and dine in, but that's not a problem, as I said, for a fam of five! I looked at the menu -- we would easily rack up $35 pre-tax.

Anybody else interested, you don't have to be in Hotwire to get the $10 offer, and if you're a first-time buyer, you may get that 15% off too.

There are 2 Giuseppi's on HHI. I don't think they are connected.

The one at restaurant.com seems to be the one in Sea Pines (you'll need to pay $5 to get into Seapines), rather than the one in Shelter Cove across from DVC. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Having said that, does anyone have any feedback on the 'other' Giuseppi's? I'm wondering if it's worth it to get the coupon.

How about DelVecchios. They also have a restaurant.com coupon, but I have never tried them.

Actually, I did notice that it was in Sea pines and figured it was a 50-50 shot the two were related, and didn't really follow up on that before seizing the moment (and the coupon) -- oh well, that's why I'm not in Vegas!

It's not a loss, really -- I can always covert it back to restaurant.com bucks and buy a different restaurant (there's a good one for a place right near my sister's house, and we always stop off there a few times per year!) ALternatively -- if anyone can tell me if the "other" Giuseppi's is worth a toot, maybe I would keep it. THe fact it's in Sea Pines doesn't really discourage me that much - we would probably venture over there at least once during our trip anyway, just to snoop around! And for only 8.50 to get $25... that's pretty darn good, unless, of course, it's crap, in which case I will DEFINITELY trade it in! After all, it will end up costing about 18.50 because it's a $35 min purchase for most of these certificates. Which basically means about half-price dining.

So how about it -- anybody dine at SEA PINES Giuseppi's ?!?

Thanks for posting this--I have never used Restarant.com, but I think I'll try a few places out (including the SP Giuseppi's) before heading to HH this fall.

Do these expire? Can I print it out now for October? Do they tend to change on restuarant.com?

Just ate at the Shelter Cove location last Wednesday. And yes they are not the same, not even related. I got the sense the Shelter Cove owner is a bit PO'ed a Sea Pines place is using the same name. The Shelter Cove Guiseppi's is now calling itself Old Original Guiseppi's.

I have not eaten at the Sea Pines Location, but recommend the Shelter Cove one. Our family of four ate for $36 after the 10% Disney discount! Try their "Wedgies" a small pizza folded over sandwich type fillings of turkey, chicken, ham, etc. - sort of like a calzone.

Note, if you do not get there before 5pm you will wait at least 1 hour. They do a huge take-out business, just make sure you call the right location. The phone book in our villa had the yellow pages folded over at the add for the Sea Pines location with the nnumber crossed out and the the Shelter Cove number written in. Seems they made a wrong call at some point.

You can print the coupons out on your printer and they are good for 1 year from date of issue. They also send you an e-mail that you can use to print the coupon again (which is a good thing, in case your printer fails or you spill coffe on the coupon or some such thing! It's happened to me before! ) If you decide you don't want the coupon, you have 90 days during which you can get Restaurant.com "megabucks" which can be used towards some other restaurant. In other words -- no cash back, but you can "exchange" within the 90 day period!

As for the lists of restaurants -- yes, they DO change. I am still kicking myself for not getting a few of a particular restaurant that, when I decided to get the coupon, the offer was gone! And not all the coupons are the same, either. Some are for 50% off your order, some are $25 for $10, some are $10 for $3, and so forth. As with anything, read the fine print -- details like "dine in only", or date of week restrictions (M-Th or such), even meal (lunch versus dinner, etc) can sometimes apply and may affect your decision to buy.

I'll wait a few more weeks and see if any "bad press" turns up on Sea Pines Giuseppi's before I decide what to do with the coupon. I looked at the menu, though -- and for some strombolis, sodas, and dessert for 5, I still think $18 would be mighty nice, even if you add the $5 Sea Pines charge to it!

And if anyone else wants to add here what I can do on Sea Pines once we've paid that fee to make the day worthwhile, go for it!

We just returned from HHI 3/31. We had a great time despite some challenging weather and illness.

SeaPines was fun. We did a 1 hour alligator cruise at the Forest Preserve, ate at the Salty Dog Cafe, cllimbed the Harbourtown lighthouse and visited the childrens playground. There is also horsebackriding, hiking and fishing at the Preserve, and supposedly beautiful sunsets at Harbourtown.

I had to laugh that the owner of Guiseppi's was mad about the Sea Pines Guiseppi's as it has been there for at least 16 years in my personal knowledge. Not sure which one came first....

Since you will be going to Sea Pines regardless, spend some time and visit Harbour Town, climb the lighthouse, take the kids to the playground. There is a free trolley shuttle you can take from Plantation Center (where Guiseppi's is) over to Harbour Town--it makes a little loop that included a beach stop. My kids think the trolley ride is great fun.

The trolley sounds like fun -- my kids think the Disney buses are a park ride, so a free trolley ride will also be a treat in their minds. We definitely plan to see the lighthouse. THanks, sjpwhelan, for the Sea Pines site.

How is food at the Salty Dog? We would probably stop in there for merchandise (my kids like the shirts), but I had heard mixed reviews on the food and wasn't sure.

Re: Food at SDC, We ate at the Wreck of the SD

Our family of 6 were all still hungry after our lunch. We are not big eaters but definately thought the portions were skimpy, although tasty. Kids meals were served on a frisbee which came in handy at the beach. We did enjoy eating outdoors as it has been a cold Spring in NY. Maybe have ice cream or pizza at SDC rather than a sit down meal.
In comparison, we preferred Wild Wings Cafe, Guisseppe's at Shelter Cove, or Mellow Mushroom for lunch type food. Disney's snack bar was good but SLOW service (It was Easter week and the resort was full)
FYI-my 4 girls loved the ice cream at Marley's Ocean Grill!! They have an ice cream stand outside the restaurant.

Some of you may already have Brusters where you live--but we don't so it's a huge treat! Dinner at Shelter Cove Giuseppi's followed by Turtle or White Turtle made-fresh-that-day ice cream...life doesn't get much better!!

I also read a great review for Gruby's New York Deli. We have never been there but we have it on our list now to try this fall...

We have only had take-out at Guiseppi's (Shelter Cove) and I thought it was okay. My family likes DelVecchio's better so we go there on every visit. It is a small place but the food is good and teh DVC discount is 10%.

Salty Dog is fun to visit, but the food is not that great, IMHO. It's worth a trip to South Beach to check it out -- and all the other shops there -- but dinner there is something I could do without. And if you don't get to the Salty Dog, there is a Salty Dog merchandise shop you can go to without paying the Sea Pines admission.

As far as ice cream goes, we love Hilton Head Ice Cream!! It's made on-site and is just a neat place to visit because of all the cool decorations they have there. We just went last night and it was sooooooo worth the calories.

If Gruby's New York Deli is the one right in Shelter cove, we did it twice last week for lunch and it was really good. Nothing fancy, though - just a walk in and order deli with plastic chairs outside.
