So I thought maybe someone might know what I mean or had something similar happen to them:

When I'm out shopping or dining, I occasionally run into girls my age who are working as waitresses or cashiers or something, or maybe they're just regular girls out somewhere. It's weird, they usually kind of give me a look... I don't know what it means, and I don't know how to describe it, but they look at me and then I dunno, there's kind of a half smile and they try to make eye contact. It's kind of weird, I guess.

Anyway, have any guys had this happen to them before? And girls, what does the look mean? :confused3

EDIT: I don't know the girls at all, never seen them before in my life ever

It could be them trying to catch your eye because they think you are attractive. if the girl is working, it could just be them being friendly to customers. i know i do that when i'm working. I give a kind of half-smile to be friendly and greet the customers.

it's really hard to say what exactly the look means without seeing it, or without you really describing it. but that's the best info i can offer.

I do a friendly kind of half smile when I see a boy from school I know. For me, it's so I can acknowledge them, without having to talk to them. Either because, I'm busy at the moment, and can't talk to them... or I just don't want to talk to them.

I agree with JulielovesDisney, it's kinda hard to give a more advanced answer, without seeing the girl's look(:

As a girl in their situation, (I'm a cashier currently and used to work in food service...) let me see if I can describe the look... :scratchin

Simply put, they think you're cute. I've used 'the look' before when I'd get a really cute, dare I say, hot guy come to my register; partly because we're suppose to be friendly anyways, but mostly to get him to catch his interest, smile back and maybe make small talk. Sure there's the chance that the guy make like what he sees and it goes futher, but that doesn't happen usually, so we just enjoy the few moments we get.

And believe me, getting a guy to respond back to a smile or look means the world to some people. I know it does for me... Especially since I hate my job and that usually the only perk I get...

i agree with everything above^^ they think your cute and are trying to get you to notice them

If I'm at work, I'm probably smiling it is usually because:

A) Co-worker on other cash said something funny
B) Co-worker not on cash is being dumb, and I thought of something snarky to say
C) You said something funny, or someone behind you did.
D) Some random Harry Potter joke in the back of my mind.

I don't smile at work because I think someone is cute. Well, unless they're a baby.
If I'm after eye contact, you're probably ignoring the 'Are those salted or unsalted?' question, orrrrr I just wanted to know what you look like.

But that is just me. I'm not a friendly person, really.

Wow. :cool1: :lmao: I had thought maybe that was it, but I didn't want to be quick to assume. Thanks for your input, everybody!

Somehow I'm kind of willing to bet that there aren't a whole lot of folks like you in the world, but hey, it takes all kinds, I guess.

huh i get that look from this one girl all the time maybe she likes me..... naaa

Let's put it this way, I can be friendly. I can be nice.
But at work, I'm usually really not happy. I'm there to work, not smile at guys.

That, and I look like crud at work anyways, I don't want more attention :P
