Girls, why do we do this to ourselves?

im only 5'2"
it just annoys me that i get judged for being small

I used to be small. Everyone would tell me "you need to put more weight on...you'll get blown away by the wind." That made me feel so great about myself. I wasn't unhealthy I was just thin because the medication I was on made me have a very small appetite.

One time I was laying in bed with my ex boyfriend and he said I was too thin because one of the bones in my back was sticking out (the bone that is kind of behind your arm...I don't know what it's called). I just cried because there was nothing I could do! I also got called flat chested by his brother because I had a B cup :confused3 He was 12 at the time so I don't know if he thought girls his age had bigger ones. I also had an hourglass shape but just not much meat on my bones. I was 130 pounds and around 5'8". I'm now 170 pounds and that same height so I look better but I'd like to be around 150 pounds.

Whatever...I've since gained quite a bit of weight and could stand to lose some but now I have a C cup and I like that size better. It just really hurt my feelings that people were acting like I had an eating disorder. I used to feel like I wasn't a good enough girl because I wasn't curvy enough or whatever.

Models and people in magazines are airbrushed so they aren't real. Girls compare themselves to those things. That is insane because they are comparing themselves to something that doesn't even exist.

i totally understand what you mean.
like the dove campaigns, the 'real' women are bigger.
not that there's anything wrong with that, but there are real thin/lean women out there too!

i just didn't want you to feel bad for being thin! haha

I hate the Dove campaign for "real" beauty. Like women who are that big are the only "real beauties" of the world. They could be a bit more diverse with their selection of women.

Mouse, I don't know why those people were calling you a lesbian because flannel shirts were HUGE here. Everyone had one and wore them. EVERYONE (except me :))

That's not the case all of the time. There are plenty of Anorexic and Bulimic teenagers that aren't underweight.

When you are anorexic it shows. Bulimics are able to hide it.

I get that a lot too. I'm also 5' 2" and am a size 4. I weigh about 120 lbs. I get the "you're too skinny" line often, but I have the hugest thunder thighs and hide them well ;). I just have a smaller waist than I do hips. It could be worse. Until I got diagnosed with diabetes I was 14, 5' 0" and weighed 90 lbs . But that was 'cause I was so sick. A lot of people don't understand why I watch my weight, but I do it 'cause with my disease I can gain 20 lbs in nothing flat, if I don't keep my eye on it. It helps though, that I have a rather high metabolism :D.
I don't straighten my hair very often because I like my curly hair :D. I don't wear makeup.

I'm not going to lie, I find things like this really offensive and it where I used to get a lot of my self confidence issues from. I'm not all that "curvy" and don't have a womanly body...so I must look like a child. Some people really can't help their bodies. This type of things makes girls want to jump on the plastic surgery bandwagon to increase bust size and such.

It's really a catch-22. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
You're right, I'm sorry. My comment was probably uncalled for, I'm really sorry (again) that I offended you. :)

Basically, what I mean is that people should feel comfortable in whatever body they have, as long as it's healthy. I have hips & curves (and well..not so much b**b, lol.) but I've grown to love that about myself. It just kills me when I see girls trying so hard to be societies version of 'perfect'.

Eating disorders are a whole different ballgame that I'm not touching on.

i never wear makeup.
i don't diet, other than just making healthy choices. (and thats not to say that i don't succumb to the occasional late night mcdonald's run. nothing healthy is available at midnight =p)
i think i'm pretty.
my boyfriend thinks i'm pretty.
no, i'm not boney. i'm actually not thin. i'm not fat, but i'm not thin.

but i love myself.

and the media won't change my mind about that.

I just find it funny that the media, and designers expect everyone in the 5'2-3' and 120 pound range to be a 4. There is NO way I'm a 4, more like a 9 in juniors. I'm 5'3 and 125.
It depends on your shape, but the media and designers don't seem to get that.

I also hate it too when people call me anorexic because I don't eat but a granola bar for lunch.
Which is actually about the same for what they eat because the ones that say that, don't eat breakfast and have lunch. I eat breakfast and a granola bar at lunch.
I eat. Quite a bit, just not at school because I hate school food and I'm not really hungry at the time.
I'm at a healthy BMI and weight range for my height.

ITA. I'm going to school. To learn. Why would I want to waste time putting on make-up? What's the point in it?
I wear whatever I want to. Sometimes my t-shirts are too big. Oh well.

The point in make up, at least for me is it's fun to put on.

The point of makeup to me, is that it makes me feel more confident. Kudos to those who are happy without! I'm amazed by that. Truly, I am.

You are just like my friend...she eats like crazy and she is also short around same height as you. But she is still like a twig.

The pictures we see on magazine covers are not real. Those models come to the photoshoot in old sweats with their hair stuck to the side of their face, & they 'beautify' them with a ton of makeup. But even THAT'S not good enough because then they do hours & hours of editing.

Nobody is that perfect in real life.

Oh, and you can't stereotype a disease. Models, aspiring models, lawyers, aspiring lawyers, doctors, teachers, students, moms, everyone. Eating disorders are't prejudice, they don't care who you are.

So, I totally love you. Most guys walk around encouraging us poor girls to torture ourselves, I'm glad that they're not all like that. :)

Oh, and Amanda. I'm sorry if you thought I was excluding thin people. I definitely wasn't. Real women come in different shapes, sizes, colors, etc, & they aren't afraid to admit it. :goodvibes

Im unique...lol

Im unique...lol

true but im pretty sure your not a woman. lol

the reason models are so tall and thin is because designers draw the clothes on these templates with ridiculous proportions so clothing hangs better on tall, skinny models.

also, i would like to point out that the "perfect proportions" were decided by a man...

Perfect proportions would be a short girl with big ****s, big butt, and a nice face; not tall and lanky and as flat as a 12 year old boy...lol

like I said before Im unique...lol. Or actually come to America all guys are like this.
Haha, you just described most the women in america.

& I'd hope a lot of guys were like that, because that totally described me. Except well, like I said before, ****s aren't so big.

Perfect porportions is a girl who is comfortable with themselves. Maybe im not the typical guy, but im not really the type of guy that looks at physical features as a desciding factor in a relationship.
