Girls, why do we do this to ourselves?

Marilyn Monroe was a size 12, and she is thought to be one of the most beautiful woman ever. The average size of women is size 14.

The models who we aspire to look like, with their perfect skin, hair and bodies aren't even real! They're edited to be perfect.

We iron our hair. Put chemicals on our face everyday. Go on ridiculous diets and sometimes even skip meals. For what? To look like someone who isn't even real?

It's so frusterating.

Dont pay attention to it.

I dont.

I just tell people "Look, its not worth it" and try as best as I can to get them to stop dieting and etc.

I just stopped paying attention to it all really.

Somebody called me a fattie in gym the other day because they saw my pants size said "7" on it instead of "00" like "everyone elses"

I just rolled my eyes at them and said

"Good for you. I am who I am, and if you dont like that, then thats your choice. Your opinion is nothing to me."

EDIT :
oh and I was called "lesbian" because i love flannel shirts.

I'm sorry, but who cares?

Theyre comfy and warm during the winter, and they say "lesbian" like its a bad thing. I'm not lesbian, but if i was, would it really be such a big deal? To say that like its an insult?

Keep in mind, size charts then weren't the same they are now. There was NO WAY Marilyn was a size 12 by today's standards in her prime.

I don't wear make-up, I look better without it. The only thing I iron is my hair, curly bangs don't look good on me. I don't diet, I just eat in moderation. I like to lose weight because I don't like the way I look. Yeah, it may be partially influence by Hollywood startlets, but so what? I'm not dangerously thin (although my mother would say otherwise ;) ) and I want to feel my best. If feeling my best means losing 10 pounds, so what? I can afford it.

I firmly believe many teenage girls need a swift kick in the rear. I firmly believe the sooner you learn to love yourself and feel confident about yourself, the sooner you feel better over-all.

I'm not going to lie, when I first went on a diet, it was because I wanted to be "That pretty girl". I wanted to be a size 2, and pretty.
But after awhile, you just come to realize, that's not what you want. At least that's how it went for me. I was doing it to show off for others until after I started progressing I realized I wanted it for me, and I wanted to be healthy. That I was already pretty.

I wear powder, eyeliner, mascara, and skin colored eye shadow.
My "diet" is healthier eating, and exercise, it's good for me.
And I refuse to dye my hair. But yes I do blow dry, straighten and curl it. Because I want a different look sometimes.

But anyways, I don't understand why people go to the extreme to look like models. I'm perfectly happy with my size, and I'm not a size 0, and I think I look crazy pretty.
I just wish more girls had that confidence.

hopefully the girls who can't help it won't get kicked in the rear.
and jenny, it's like you read my mind.
i've been going through such a horrible time this week.

No, but she was also very curvy. Curvy people today get labeled so fast as 'fat' it's not funny.

It's like, excuse me I have ****s and hips and am not the size of a twig. I'm a real woman, not a child. ;)

What!? They called you fat? No way. You're so thin!

Personally, I think people should try their best to tune out the outside world in regards to their appearance. Do what makes you feel comfortable & happy. For me, makeup is a pain in the *** and I feel yucky when I have it all on.

But on the other hand, I feel much more confident when I straighten my hair. Just because to have smooth hair makes me feel...lighter some how.

I also feel my most comfortable in jeans, believe it or not. Pair that with a normal ol' t-shirt and I feel like I'm the most beautiful thing ever.

So forget what everyone else thinks. Forget about societies standards and norms. Listen to yourself.

I've heard tat back in the 50's that the average model would fit in a size 6 as far as today's standards. Not sure about that, but it's what I've heard.

back in the 60s models actually looked healthy (with the exception of twiggy)

No kidding. I'm not very small (size 6 womens) but I do have curves (that I recently discovered btw! ;) ) and in the media, I'd be portrayed as fat.

Another thing that annoys me is juniors sizes. Why can't juniors sizes follow womens?
I'll go try on some women's pants in a 6 and feel AWESOME about myself. I'll go try on the same pants in juniors sizes (usually a 9/10) a feel like a cow!

Because women were WOMEN back then! They had breasts, a butt, and thunder thighs! They were encouraged to be like that! Now we're encouraged to be stick figures. :sad2:

i've been going through such a horrible time this week.

If someone can't find that they have even the slightest ounce of beauty in them (whether it be physical or emotional) they have an issue.
EVERYONE is beautiful no matter WHAT.

Seriously? I think I wear around the same size in woman's and junior's. Woman's pants are usually a bit looser though. I prefer juniors because I get the fit that I want.

Well sometimes people really do need to lose weight, for their health.
But i do agree that girls need more confidence.

They look better that way!

I always feel fat because i have to go to special stores to buy jeans.

I wish they did jeans like they do guys (with the inches and all) that way they'd always be the same, and not so confusing.

I have trouble finding jeans and Delias is the only place that i seem to fit into.

Size is just a number. If your healthy, that is all that matters.

I wear make-up for myself and my DBF. He appreciates it alot.

If you like to flame then read the following:

Unless you actually are quite a bit overweight, when someone calls you fat it's just an insult. They don't actually think you're fat. Also, I HATE the stereotypes that models and skinny girls don't eat at all, and that they throw up everything. That's so not true. Some models do, but more don't starve themselves than do. Oh, and I'm pretty sure models are real people. It's so annoying when people say they "Aren't real" because what are they? The models aren't the ones throwing up for fashion, it's the people who want to be models and think the only way they can is by throwing up.

So, its ok to call someone who is overweight, fat straight to their face? I don't think that is too kind.:sad2:
Some women enjoy their curves.

And bulemia is more than just looking to be thin. It is a clinical condition.

I started my diet to look smaller. Im on my third week and feel much better. I wake up with more energy and feel a lot healthier. Im not allways hungry like many people think you are while on a diet.I wear a little eye shadow and mascara thats all.
Jessica

Eesh. I know. Society as directed to teenage girls is confusing and oftentimes contradictory.
You just have to remember that everyone's perception of beauty is different.
And that all you can do is try to find what you feel comfortable with, and stick with it.

I just have to realize that they are edited. But you have to remember Marilyn Monroe's size 12/14 is not today's size 12/14. We are bigger today than back then, so proportions have changed. Still, a size 12 today is not too big depending on your height. I have friends that are that size but they are short so they are bigger. I'm a size 10 but people don't think I am when I tell them but I'm also taller.

I just search for pictures of celebrities with their stretch marks and cellulite and I feel better because I know all of their magazine pictures are edited beyond belief.

I used to wear makeup everyday. Now I rarely wear it. I feel fine without it.

I Choose Team Thunder Thighs and against Team Twigs...lol. I like my girls to look healthy and not anorexic or balimic.
