While I was in Afghanistan my favorite thing to do was shop on Amazon for stuff to make my hooch and our offices better. My boss insisted that I was singlehandedly responsible for Amazon turning a profit in the 2nd quarter of 2011.

I am not into the Princess stuff either, and don't love clothes shopping at all. I do however, like to spend money, lol. Even walking around Walmart makes me feel better some days! Haha. Disney Store is my favourite though, whenever I can get there. At least it used to be. Now it is mostly little kid stuff, which is really disappointing.

Heather, dare I ask, what is a hooch? I don't shop much online but I do like browsing.:)

Andrea, you like the little kid stuff because you have your amazing baby boy. I would too!;) The Disney store in my mall has gone completely to the kids. Not much for adults in there at all. But just spending money in general, I am excellent at that. HA!:rotfl:

Spent the day at DCA today. Rode RSR early utilizing the single rider line. Very, very cool. I love that ride. Then had a lovely lunch at Cathay Cirlce with Bree, Cheryl and one of her friends. It was such a good day. I hope all of you are enjoying the weekend. :)

Even staying in the shade and wearing a hat, somehow I sunburned my face. Arms? Nope. Face? Toast. Don't get that one. LOL

That's like my glowstick legs - never get any color, be it red, tan, whatever. Just white, very, very white :crazy2:

I am not into the Princess stuff either,

:scared1::scared1:

It's weird, I have three girls and none of them are really into fashion or brand names. They aren't really girly-girls. For example, they want nothing to do with the Disney princesses. I have failed them! :rotfl:

...... but they do like tie dye, so it's all good :thumbsup2 :lmao:

I luvs Amazon!!!

Phew, glad it's not just me. When I hear hooch, I think cheap booze, but I'm thinking that's probably not it :upsidedow

Evening ladies!

Got home late this afternoon from my Piuma-Pellofu-Briano family reunion. This reunion has been held every 3rd Saturday of June for over 113 years. :) Even some Franzias were there? Do you remember Franzia wine? I am even distantly related to the Gallos. We used to go to family reunions with the Gallos, but have lost that connection since the oldies have passed on. Anyways, had a good time, and won 1st place on the annual cake contest. :blush:I made a 5 layer chocolate cake with mascarpone, cream, Kalua and espresso filling, topped with a nice chocolate glaze. The filling was so good that I could have eaten that all by itself! :rolleyes1

Pam, I got your message. I do have some shirts yet.:thumbsup2 Have a nice time :happytv: . ;)

Hymm... I love to shop, I loves me some clothes, shoes, I love to buy make up, I love BLING, princesses in pink and purple. What can I say? My girls didn't have a chance, and they are worse than me. :rolleyes1

Jen, have a good time, and no fancy drinks for you, my dear. :snooty:

Lisa, have fun in your craft mine! Are you stamping to get ready for your convention? :goodvibes

Aw what a nice day! :) I am jealous.

How was Carthay?

I loathe clothes shopping. But I can shop for HOURS in a good craft or electronics store.....

That kind of shopping is not shopping it's dreaming :beach: I would add a hardware store like Home Depot or Lowes. I guess I should have clarified that I DID mean clothes shopping. I like to shop for things for my home just not for my body :upsidedow

Each of my 3 girls went through a phase (pre-teen to mid-teen) when they rebelled against anything "girly" (pink, princesses, bling), but so far they've come back to liking it again. They have always liked clothes, but they don't care about name brands. I think that just means they're down to earth and not snooty :snooty:, so you must be doing something right :thumbsup2

I don't know. I think I could have given you a run for your money. I love, love, love Amazon. BTW I interpreted "hooch" as decor, maybe over the top decor, but decor just the same :scratchin

You seemed to time it great my DD20 CM said it was dead slow today. It's probably relative, but my app did show RSR as under 2 hours most of the day. I'm going on Tuesday with my DH, and I'm thinking we should do the single rider thing too. I'm also excited because I called Disney dining on a spur of the moment to see if there was any way of getting a a reservation at Carthay. The CM told me she couldn't believe it, there must have been a cancellation because she hadn't seen a dinner reservation for Carthay until August for a month but low and behold one was there, so we got in. I'm so excited. I haven't told me DH yet. I want it to be a surprise. I just hope the bill isn't such a surprise that he keels over dead :crazy2:

I forget sometimes that normal people don't know how to interpret Army-speak. A hooch is where you live while overseas. For me it was a hallway in a concrete building shared with 4 other female Soldiers with wall of 1/4in plywood separating our living areas. Our beds were plywood pedestals with box springs on top (the Army apparently couldn't afford mattresses). We all bought memory foam mattress toppers, rugs, wall decorations etc to make our hooches more like home. My room was quite awesome once Amazon and I were done with it. In fact, I can show you some pictures.

DSCN2167.jpg

We each painted our door a different color, mine was black for a while, but later was changed to sapphire blue, the first door was actually a very vibrant purple, but the color didn't show up well in this picture.

DSCN2157.jpg

I'm only 5'4", so I had to have the carpentry shop build steps for me so I didn't have to run and jump from across the room to get into bed at night. Everything not made of plywood was from Amazon.

DSCN2159.jpg

Between the bed and the closet was a lovely chocolate brown clothes hamper, and the floor was covered by a super soft chocolate rug.

DSCN2156.jpg

My pictures are all pretty crappy, but it's hard to be in focus in that small of a space, especially when you're laughing so hard you can barely hold the camera.

I almost miss my little hooch sometimes, especially when I'm cleaning my big old house! So anyway, there's a little window into the life of a female Soldier in Afghanistan. It wasn't an easy place to be, but we made it as close to home as possible and tried to have fun. The little motivational sayings plastered all over my walls helped, too. And almost all of the pictures on my walls were of my kids and parents from our Disneyland trip in July 2010, a couple of months before I left. The one over the head of my bed was of all of us with Pluto at Goofy's kitchen. That trip and planning for our WDW trip when I got back totally got me through that year.

Camo love your hooch pics. My ex was in Iraq or I should say Kuwait from March of 04 to March of 05. They were in tents over there though. I think there were about 10 guys or so to a tent and he and his battle buddy had beds next to eachother. Like you they built themselves a little area with shelves for their stuff and a place to hang up their uniforms and such. They just slept in their sleeping bags on top of the box springs LOL. MOST of the stuff that he and his buddy had was stuff I sent in my monthly care packages. They also used their foot lockers as a table LOL. You did a great job decorating your hooch. Looked cozy. :)

I'm off here in a few. For those at DL we will be there Tues and Wed. Tues at DL and Wed at CA if you would like to say hi. :)

We're leaving on our family trip to Colorado on Friday...

Sounds like a great trip!

mmmmm...makes me wish I had a tumbler-full!

Buy a bottle to celebrate next Feb!

We are all packed and just about ready to go. Bedtime in about an hour so I can start driving at about 12:30am.

I know you are on your way already but have a great time!

Hi Everyone! :wave2: It has been a while since I've been on the boards and I've been getting caught up with all the posts. :coffee: I've been under the weather the past couple of weeks :faint: but starting to feel better. Although I still have no voice, but i think some of my family members might be happy about that - lol. ;)

Glad you are feeling better!

Anyways, had a good time, and won 1st place on the annual cake contest. :blush:I made a 5 layer chocolate cake with mascarpone, cream, Kalua and espresso filling, topped with a nice chocolate glaze. The filling was so good that I could have eaten that all by itself! :rolleyes1

YUMMMYYY!! Did you save me some!;)

We had a picnic for 1000 people yesterday - Brazilian Carnival theme! Great Samba band with dancers!! And we had the best dessert - mini doughnuts made fresh to order with your choice of toppings - chocolate, caramel, cinnamon sugar, powders sugar or sprinkles served in a cone! They were sooo good! Almost as good as the Mickey beignets! But the hit of the picnic were the Caipirinha's!! My poor bartenders had sore arms from muddling the limes!

I am leaving this morning for college tours in SoCal with my son!:scared1: He'll be a junior next year so we are getting a head start! Can't believe he will be in college in a few years.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Happy Sunday, Divas! Hope everyone is having a great day. I am hopeful we are going to actually get some sun later today. The weather has been completely freak here. Yesterday was a mixture of torrential rain, lightening, thunder... Did I miss anything else in there? I'm sure I did.

Melody, btw, that cake sounds phenomenal. :thumbsup2 Also, I'm excited that you have some shirts left. :yay: Thanks for letting me know. :)

My daughter went through that phase too in her early teens. She was into kind of the sporty, surf stuff from Pac Sun, Billabong, etc. Now she's back into more girly wear - frilly headbands, dresses, etc. More frilly than her mama, I can tell ya'.

:rotfl:

I love your hooch, Lady. :rotfl: I just had to say that...;) Seriously, that is a pretty cool room layout you had. :thumbsup2

Well DH just leaned in and told me he wants me to go for a walk with him, so I'll see ya'll later...

We had it a lot better than the guys in Iraq. Our FOB had a lot of buildings already in place, likely built by the Russians in the 80s. We were also lucky to only have a few females, we were required to have a hallway dedicated to just us, so we didn't have to share rooms.

Hi everyone! Wow, so many fun and yummy things going on for many of you! :cool1:

I've been annoyed with Ryan's friend this weekend. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood, but the kid and his mom annoy me, which is hard to do. I don't annoy easily.

First, the kid's mom won't drive him around. Ryan invites him to stay the night, but his mom won't drop him off or pick him up. Not because she can't do it. She just doesn't want to be bothered with it. They only live 5 minutes away for crying out loud. So I get to play taxi driver for someone else's kid?!! I dont' get it. :confused3

Also, his mom requested her kid take a shower here. Wth? Why didn't he take a shower before I picked him up? Or why doesn't he take a shower when he gets home after I drop him off? I don't know...the whole thing seems weird.

Then the kid sets a very loud alarm on Ryan's cell phone to go off at 7am this morning. Hello, it's a sleepover. You were up really late last night. Why in the hell would you set an alarm for 7am in someone else's home at a sleepover? When I asked him why he did it, he said, "Well, I wanted to get up early, but these guys (Ryan and Luke) don't want to get up." Well duh kid. Shocker. Go back to bed.
Blink.gif

So I go out, clean the pool, check the garden, ect, come back in, and call the boys to the table for some cereal. Ryan and Luke come a running, but no kid. Where's the kid? Oh, he's not coming mom. He already ate.
shocked-smiley-9456.gif

And the kicker....last night the kid says to me, "Capri, you know that guy who shot the two police officers last week and then killed himself. Yeah, he was my mom's friend's ex-drug dealer."
shocked.gif

So that is why I'm annoyed. And I will be taxi-driving his stinky, non-showered self back to his mom shortly.

OMG Capri. What a friend. NOT! :sad2: It would be the first and last invite he got from my son. Moms always know that each one drives one way. It's an unwritten rule. Duh. The alarm thing wouldn't annoy me, it would piss me off. Of course, I sleep in on the weekends, everyone that knows me, knows that. It's a house rule here!

Thanks for sharing your hooch pics Heather. All that plywood would bum me out. You did a great job of making it homey. :) And I'm glad you clarified the meaning for all us with curious minds.

Pam, I hope the sun makes it your way. It's a beautiful day in So Cal today. Have fun on your walk, I should get my lazy butt out. Somehow I considered changing the cats litter box and shaking out my bathroom rugs exercise for me today.

Hi Mel! As usual, you are amazing. Carthay was very nice. The Heirloom tomatoes and Halibut Ceviche were stand outs for me. And yes, the parks were dead. The longest wait for any ride outside of Carsland was 15 minutes. We rode Toy Story twice in a row! It was great.

Oh my, that kid would so not be hanging out at my place. My kids friends are all pretty used to our routine. Most of which is: don't annoy Mom.

I tend to be the chauffeur as well, but that part doesn't bother me so much as the moms who let their kids spend whole weekends at my house without ever having met me. And don't bother to come to the door when I pick up their kid, or just drop them off in front of my house without coming to my door. Seriously? I know they're 15, but still, they could be pretending to spend the night here and going somewhere else less safe. I like to know where my kid is, and that the mom knows that she's there as well. Some people's parents. Really.

Haha, doesn't everyone sleep in on the weekends? :rotfl:

Well, almost everyone. Except...the kid. :headache:

The driving thing is interesting. If one of my kids gets an invite to something, I'm the kind of mom who asks the parent, "What time should I drop him off? What time should I pick him up?"

I could understand if she was working or busy, but she wasn't. She was just hanging out her home watching TV.

This is the second time the kid has spent the night at our house. The first time, his mom never even talked to us. She didn't have our phone numbers. She didn't even know where we lived (I played taxi driver that time too.) The kid is only 12 years old - a mom should care enough to know those things! She still doesn't have our phone numbers. :sad2:

Yikes Capri - that whole situation just makes me sad..and annoyed. Sheesh..I realize I don't have kids of my my own but still everything you mentioned is just really off to me..and makes me sad for the kid too ><

I feel so far behind everything..bleh. Work is keeping me 110% occupied and not in a good way. Yesterday I am thankful it was so front loaded I was able to leave early and grab some well needed margaritas and appetizers with DH at On The Border before heading over to the last 3D showing of Brave. The movie was amazing..a must see. I was crying like a baby by the end..but I do in most Disney movies as it makes me miss my late mom all that much more.

I was on the verge of strangling one of my most idiotic co workers yesterday because though she just received her Master's degree..she has no competency in her job at the hotel and EVERYONE coddles her like a toddler..must be nice to be thin , attractive and have an accent everyone fawns over.. Yet because I am actually strong , and competent of I make one minor mistake I get throwin under a bus with a car bomb going off in it..and people wonder why I am stressed..:confused3

I hope everyone else has a good Sunday though and enjoys their day :)

Camo Mamma, thanks for sharing the photos of your hooch. It's nice that you were able to decorate it to make it feel a little homey.

Capri, the issues with that kid just sound odd. I could never let my kid go somewhere and not know almost every detail about it. And who wants to get up at 7am on a weekend if they don't have to. :confused3

I unfortunately had to work at 7am this morning. And I have to be back at work at 3am tonight to help unload the truck. Ugh. This will be my first time doing this shift, so we will see how it goes. At least I get a three day weekend next week. I get to spend Canada Day down in Calgary with some family and friends, so looking forward to that.

And just thought I'd share a cute photo of my little man cuddling with his Duffy. :goodvibes

Just... wow. I know this doesn't need to be said, but all sleepovers would be at my place with that kid, I'd never allow mine to spend the night at a house with parents so completely uninterested in what their kids are doing or who they're with. Not a chance.

And Oh Em Gee, Andrea! Your little guy is just adorable! When I see cute ones it almost makes me want another one in the house, but then I remember and I snap out of it.

We just had this yesterday when I picked up my kids from a birthday party. One boy wanted to stay longer but his parents were already there and didn't want to come back so they said he could walk, it's ahalf hour walk and they're in grade 2. Crazy!

I don't understand people these days, do they not think or care about their kids. When Keira was in kindergarten I picked her up from another birthday party that was going on later than planned and another Mom couldn't wait because she had errands to run(2 years later, she seems to use this excuse a lot) I knew where they lived since I drive the kids to school and park near their house everyday so I offered to drive her daughter home. The mother didn't know me or whose mother I was yet agreed to have me bring her home. She didn't even let her own daughter know, she just left. When I get to her house a half hour later no sign of the mom and Dad is confused as to why I have his daughter, he had no idea where she was.

The waking up early would not go over well here either, Brendan has one friend that occasionally has to be up early to get home for stuff but they never wake me up.

That's like my glowstick legs - never get any color, be it red, tan, whatever. Just white, very, very white :crazy2:

My legs don't tan or burn from the ankles to the knees. Thighs will burn to a lobster crisp. Ditto for the tops of my feet. Shins and calves? Nope. Just Casper white.

Lisa, have fun in your craft mine! Are you stamping to get ready for your convention? :goodvibes

Yep! Working on gifts for my roommates and the cards and trinkets I swap with other attendees.
