Angie~~There are areas on the Oregon coast highway that are really curvy and narrow. We used to live down in the Coos Bay/North Bend area and we'd go to baseball tournaments up & down the coast. Even with Mike doing this road quite often with the trailer.....it was still a bit scary. I don't know how big your trailer is but some of those corners are not suited for campers. :scared1:

Just also plan on extra time during the summer as the coast hwy will be swarming with rv's, trailers & summer visitors. There are a lot of areas without passing.....so it can be very slow moving.

Not trying to scare you, just want to make sure you're aware (in case you've never done that trek). It's stunningly beautiful as well!!

Thanks Laurie, I knew about the slow moving through there. I'll ask around on some forums about the curves.

Morning all and hope everyone had a great 4th. Ours was pretty boring unfortunately. We used to always go to the parade but everyone stopped wanting to go a few years back and so yesterday we spent the morning at sam's club getting our pics developed from our trip and then my uncle who is 92 called and asked us to come by so we had a nice visit with him and some of our other relatives which was great because his health is really failing and I fear he won't be with us a whole lot longer.

Then we just went to mom and dad's and swam a bit and bbqed hamburgers and everyone wanted to get home before dark. They got rid of the fireworks that were close to us and no one wanted to drive to see them anywhere else because of the drunks, fire dangers etc. So the girls and I just came home and watched tv LOL.

The fair starts next week so we are all excited and geared up for that. We drop Katy's jam off next Thurs and then Friday is the judging so we are all really anxious to see how that goes and then she and shelby are baking a few things this time and that comp isn't till the last week. So it shall be exciting!!

Going to have a busy July with swim finishing up and Katy has 2 cheer clinics and then school will be starting again. WHEW!

Hope everyone has a good rest of your week!!

Jen I am sorry to hear about your issues. Prayers to you that all is well! I can tell you I had a lot of bleeding with Katy and it turned out my placenta had loosened on one side but luckily it reattached and all was well so hopefully it is nothing and everything will be ok!

Not me, but I was amused........ Good job on figuring it out finally (and it is cute)

Do they have special ones for the fourth???

Guess what I found at Costco today? The entire "Shades of...." trilogy......... Did I pick it up? Well, I'll never tell :littleangel:

Yes, they do. It actually started on Sunday, July 1st. They are mostly red, white and blue fireworks with patriotic songs playing. The show was only 10 minutes and we were a little dissapointed.

Before WOC they also did a few firewroks.

DBF and I went to Redondo Beach yesterday and rode bikes in the early afternoon. The Strand was so packed we had to walk our bikes most of the way. All of the houses were having parties.

Afterwards my brother met us at The Cheescake Factory for dinner and we all watched the fireworks. They really do a good show and its realy neat to watch them shoot off from the barge in the harbor.

Happy 4th of July ladies!

Dh and I have a couple days off together so we're going to take the kids camping for 1 night. Luckily we have a beautiful lake and campground 20 minutes from home we can go to:)

I have a question for any ladies near San Francisco. We're taking our travel trailer down the Oregon and California coast in August and my oldest wants to go to San Francisco for his birthday. We found an RV park in Novato. Does anyone know how easy it will be to get into the city from here and roughly how long it will take. I want to book Alcatraz for one morning.
Thanks!

You would drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, so that would be fun! I would definitely leave the trailer and just drive down in your truck or whatever you are towing with. There is a garage right across the street from pier 39/ fisherman's wharf that is convenient, but not cheap! I think it would take a good hour to get there from Novato.

Good morning, ladies. :) Have a great day!!

Holy beejeebers, you DO talk a lot :scared1:
::yes::

Enjoy your "Shades of Grey" trilogy, because we ALL know you bought it. :p Gonna share that book with Frank? :rotfl2:

Aw, sounds great! I love Redondo Beach and the Cheesecake Factory. :thumbsup2

Thanks Tina! My next question was going to be where we should park. We tow with a suburban which is tricky since it doesn't fit in most old underground parking lots. We found that out the hard way in Victoria.

I don't know about the RV park, but make sure you book Alcatraz in advance :) The trips always book to capacity in advance. We are planning on going in a few weeks for my first time.

Thanks Jen, I'll book it soon!

There are some parking areas along the pier area that might be better suited to a large truck. I know my friends park their f250 dualie in those lots rather than the garage. I can't remember which way the piers are numbered, but the facilities are up closer to the cruise terminal, so it would be a bit of a walk, but not bad. I would suggest checking that there won't be a ship in port the day you are planning to be there, it really makes things congested in that area. If you do try the garage, go up to the roof level - the spots seem a little wider up there.

I'm tired this morning.... the idiots in our area were shooting off bottle rockets and M-80's (and larger) until around midnight. Buttmonkeys. Today my best friend is taking me out to lunch - partly for my birthday (tomorrow, not today) and partly to show off the truck he and his wife bought yesterday. Boys and their toys. Sheesh. LOL I have to run to the store for fruit for the sangria I'm making for tomorrow and the weekend and to pick up the cute little triple chocolate mousse desserts that our local store has in their bakery - YUM! Tonight is leftovers and tomorrow night is takeout. Since DH flies out early on Saturday morning and one of my pet peeves is waiting to eat at restaurants, I decided to postpone my birthday dinner at Red Lobster until next weekend when we can do it around 3PM on Saturday. My Stampin Up order arrives today so I'll finally have all the stuff I need to finish my projects which is what I plan to work on while hubby is gone. For some reason, my creativity doesn't flow until after 9PM, so I anticipate some whacked hours for most of the next week. I've got to get my sleep clock adjusted anyway, right? LOL

Have a great day, everyone!

Hello ladies. I hope everyone had a great 4th of July (even you Canadians ;) ). I had a nice relaxing day. Our plans changed about 10 times from Tuesday to Wednesday, but we just ended up having a BBQ at my mans house with friends and when everyone left we were going to go to a fireworks show in our area, but decided to forgo the crowds and just sit in the Spa. We ended up having a great view for fireworks because someone in his neighborhood had some awesome fireworks that they were shooting right over his back yard. I was just totally surprised the police didn't show up because these were huge aerial fireworks. Either way it was a magical evening without the crowds.

I don't have any tips for you, but just wanted to say your trip sounds great. I've been having the road trip bug and have been itching to take a road trip. We are tentatively planning a road trip next spring or summer.

Happy 4th of July Divas! I hope everyone is enjoying their day! We had parade in town and our football program had a float. It was lots of fun, but we are all wiped out.... Naps for everyone ;)

I love naps! Hope to see you around here more!

Oh, look! I just realized I passed 43,000 posts. :lmao: That's a whole lotta blah, blah, blah.

Holy Crap!

Sounds like a fun day even though you had to walk your bikes :upsidedow.

We went to our friends in Natomas for the day, her apt has an awesome grill and pool area!! For fireworks we went to Davis, awesome show and easy to get to! :)

Sounds like it was a good 4th for all! :) YAY!!! We had fun and I slept very well last night, after all the idiots stopped blowing off their fireworks. :sad2: They were doing it until after 11, I was tempted to call the police but by the time they would have gotten there it would have been over.....so I didn't. At work today, busy busy busy, at work tomorrow, then off to DL with Cass!!!! I'm super excited!!

You can take a road trip and come to Canada!

Looking at my ticker, I just realized we leave for Michigan in exactly 4 weeks from today!! :scared1:

I am so excited to go, and yet, really nervous about getting there. I've never taken a train before, let alone one for this length of time. 39 hours on the train, in coach!! Which means, sitting the entire time. No sleepers for us. They were WAY too expensive. Would've added an extra $1800 to the trip.
We've driven cross country before and it's been ok. I guess I'd rather ride 39 hours on a train, then 16 in a plane. At least they have a dining car, and an observation car. We can get up anytime we want and walk around. Plus if the station stop is long enough, you can get off and walk around.

On the one hand, it sounds like an awesome adventure, something out of Amazing Race. LOL On the other hand, I am beginning to wonder if I am nuts to do this. :sad2: I think the hardest part will be not being able to shower!! :crazy2: :rotfl2:

Oh well, it will be interesting to say the least....

Kerri how exciting!! I bet you can't wait. Have a BLAST when you go!! Can't wait to hear all about it!

It will be an adventure that's for sure!!! Do the seats recline at all? My back would be a goner if I had to sit that long. Bring a bunch of wet wipes for a sponge shower.:rotfl:

Hello there -- yes I keep lurking :) I hope to one day get a chance to meet you all. But this is to Beth-- You might be able to get a sleeper for two people and well sleep in shifts if needed. Kids should do fine -- I was thinking of the older kids = parents. Sounds like a great time. I love taking the train from our small town to seattle. Up and back same day -- it is so relaxing with no traffice to have issues with. I also have to say the scenery is so much better from a train.

I have to say -- way to go girl-- to mamakate. Love is grand.

To everyone one else have fun planning the Diva trip. With mega pixie dust, a lot of prayers, wishing and hoping, maybe just maybe this old bag of bones can get my act together and make a trip in Feb. '13.

:)

TGIF, ladies!! :cool1:

Yes, they do recline. We are traveling on the Southwest Chief, and I've gone on youtube and done lots of research on the train. If anyone is curious, here is one short clip where they show the seating in coach. The guy in it is 6'2" and seems to fit fine.
http://youtu.be/0iW6xnTJp2c

The seats are larger than on the planes, they recline, have a footrest, etc. We are bringing pillows and blankets. Oh, and snacks. They allow you to bring your own food if you want, so we'll eat some meals in the dining car and some at our seats.

The dining car is fairly nice, too.
Here is a pic of that:

And this is one I found online of the observation car:

I found an Amtrak discussion forum and have been doing research on there. It's like planning for Disney! lol We are definitely bringing supplies such as dry shampoo, baby wipes, hand wipes, toothbrush and paste, etc.
I love to go camping, so this roughing it part won't really be anything new for me. It's just been awhile is all. lol

Hi, Patty! Good to see you pop in. I actually looked into just reserving one room, and taking turns using it, but they are really strict now, and only allow the person(s) whose name is on the sleeper back in that area. For security reasons I guess. So, coach it is! ;)

I am eager to see all the scenery cross country. Places cars just don't go. We'll be riding through the heartland of America! :)

With this new fancy app, I'm hoping to be a daily poster. I Miss the girlies!
We miss you! Now that you can post more, you can catch up to my post count! :rotfl2:

:bday:

Happy birthday Lisa!
Yes, happy birthday, Lisa!!!
