Oh dear me, I hope everyone had a better Thanksgiving then I did!

Oh no, what happened or didn't happen that made it not so good.

I say you have a Thanksgiving REDO with the Ladies in March...with Pizza instead of Turkey.

Everything was going great until about 2:20 PM, when we were trying to head out the door and go to my aunt's house. My mom, dad and I got into this huge fight about nothing. I drove to Sacramento in tears and then spent the first 30 minutes locked in my cousin's bathroom, bawling my eyes out. :sad2:

OK!!!!!!!!!! No one make me cry though, please!

When doing your Christmas cards this year, take just one card and send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.

When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please send one to the following:

A Recovering American Soldier

I will definitely do that. What a nice idea. Thanks Stacie. I hope everyone else reading this will too. It's only one extra card. :)

I'll go for that. I love pizza.

Awwww, I'm sorry hon! But what's Thanksgiving without some family drama! Seriously, I can't recall one Thanksgiving where some drama didn't take place.
My favorite one was our first one in Michigan where I had over 24 people at my house and I had to leave to go up the street to convince my half brother's girlfriend to stop being mad at him and come join the meal. By the time I got back, my food was cold and everyone was almost ready for dessert! Oh yeah, good times. ;)

Is everything ok now, I hope?

Miss Wendy, I was playing with my avatar earlier and that Tink was the first one I tried!!!! LOL

Oh, and I thought you'd get a kick out of this. During our meal, we took turns saying what we were thankful for, and Hannah says she is thankful for food and monkeys. I'm not kidding!
OK, so I can totally understand the food part. She gets that from me. :rotfl: But monkeys????? Did you send some sort of monkey hex our way???

I'm not really use to being part of the family drama, and it really doesn't help that I've been extremely emotional the past week. Gosh darn hormones!

You should have left her until you ate. :rolleyes1

Things are better, but it was just awkward all night. I'm happy to be back at home and to put this behind me. I didn't even get a chance to enjoy my dinner, I was so upset. I did enjoy my dessert (strawberry cheesecake) though!

:rotfl: OMG! I wish I could have been there!!!! Cost Plus is giving out free monkey ornaments tomorrow, I got all excited when I saw the ad and my mom just shook her head like I have completely lost it. Nice to see others appreciating monkeys!

Well, I'm sorry it was upsetting for you. I'm glad you are back home now. And that you were able to enjoy your dessert. Cheesecake has a way of making things better. :rotfl:

And you are right, I should have left her until after I ate. I would of had I known she'd be so stubborn. LOL

I swear it's good I hadn't been chewing or I would've choked!! :lmao: She just on a monkey kick right now. LOL I bought her this really cute white wallet with monkeys on it as one of her stocking stuffers. It was only 5 bucks. And she really wanted a sock monkey so I bought one of those too.

I sure hope this latest fad of hers doesn't last long........:rolleyes1

Yep, the only thing I can do is put this day behind me and hope that Christmas is better! I should just carry a cheesecake around with me, just in case something bad happens.

Boo to family drama! Yay for girls only trips!!!!

Hey where did Tink go?? LOL She turned into Stitch. :stitch2:

I'm playing around with my avatar. I don't know what I want! I can see my avatar changing many many many times this next month! I just can't make up my mind...like you! :santa:

Yeah, like mine during Halloween.
I was off changing my MySpace page to make it all pretty and Christmasy. :santa:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We started off with monkey bread, then moved onto shrimp for lunch, and we're having a big dinner later around 4pm.

I hate to talk real quick and run, but life is hectic today!

Molly, I'm really interested in hearing more about your son's language barrier. I'm getting my oldest evaluated next month for speech delay's. He's 22 months, and only says 5 words. He used to say more, but has 'lost' lots of his words. It's months since I've heard several more. PM me if you want, but I'd love to hear any experience lessons you might have.

Thanks! Heather

My oldest son said very few words until about age 2.5. Then he just started speaking in very robust, adult type language. It was like he did all the developmental stages in his head or something.

Oh yes. Will do. Great idea and thanks for posting it. I love to do things like that.

Hi all,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am stuffed and tired. I love Holidays close to a weekend!! I get to have 4 days off in a row! Woooohooooo!

I was planning to get up early and hit some stores tomorrow, but I checked online and was able to get most everything on my list that way. If you haven't checked online, you should. Most items are already up. Of course, my list wasn't long, but it is definitely worth not fighting the crowds to get things done from home. There were only a few things that were in store only and they were little things. My hubby wanted an Ipod, and I found a Nano for $99. Got a ripstick for my oldest for $59. And the Dyson vacuum I have wanted forever and a day!! So tomorrow I can stay home, watch movies with the munchkins and study. :woohoo:

Now I just need to start working on all of the non-immediate family gifts.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Amy

I had a great day, and I hope everyone is recovering from the holiday whirlwind! It's just beginning for me! I'm sorry Wendy had such an emotional day today. I can relate. Like Beth though, we always say it's not a holiday until someone cries. Usually it's not me, I hope you're feeling better now Wendy. Arguements take all my energy away, and I fret for days over them. I hope you don't take after me! :goodvibes

It sounds like everyone else is having a great day.

First, let me say that if he has actually *lost* words, then my experience might not be right for you. Then again, kids are forgetful, and one day they know something, next day they don't, next day they do, etc. :) Or so I've noticed.

I can't say exactly, but 22 months does sound around the right age. Where it's not absolutely awful that they aren't talking up a storm, especially given that they are boys, but it starts making people nervous.

I'm not a worrier about those things, and I don't much care for western medicine, and DS's health care provider wasn't concerned, but I know from internet experience that other doctor-types would be nervous about it. So when DS wasn't talking much (he signed a little bit, and we could always figure out what he wanted, but in terms of actual English there wasn't much) it didn't worry ME, but I knew it would worry other people.

I say now I was starting to think about wondering about if I should think about being worried, LOL.

Growing up, we were PBS kids. Only. Our road was unincorporated and without cable even once it was invented, and we only got a few channels anyway, but PBS is all we could watch for a LONG time. I figured I would be the same, but then when I got a peek at what Sesame Street had become, I did NOT like it. NOT the biggest fan of Elmo, nor do I like that Snuffleuphagus was made "real". :) So I was at a loss.

One day I remembered that my friend really liked Blue's Clues, when her son was little (he's in his young teens now, I believe), and I decided to put it on. We both really REALLY liked it, and we started watching it.

And all of a sudden, boom, he had a language explosion. He was learning words every day, and things that I hadn't even heard while in the same room were getting into his head! It was astonishing and very cool.

DS has always had a late bedtime, mainly so he and DH can spend time together, so it's not that Eamon didn't hear a male voice, it's just, maybe, the way Steve talks and "interacts" is different from how Robert talks.

Probably about 6 months later I ran into a second cousin who lives around here. Our family is big and spread out and doesn't communicate, so I didn't even know she still lived here or worked at the upscale grocery store! She had gotten married and had a baby since I last saw her, and in quick girly chat she mentioned that her son was around that age and that his ped was starting to think about being concerned about it. I mentioned Blue's Clues. A few months later, I heard from her again, and the SAME thing had happened with her guy. He went from very few words to tons of words.

Now it could all just be coincidence, waiting it out, natural timing. It could. But for me I really think that BC had something to do with it. It was the way he learned, the words he learned, the way it all happened. Didn't feel like coincidence to me, but of course I'll never know. :goodvibes

I wish you luck with your little guy!

Do you have other kids; is he a younger? IF so, that might also be it. I'm the oldest, and I could always figure out what my brother needed. He didn't HAVE TO talk, and boy oh boy he didn't. I think he was 3 before he really started to talk, b/c all his needs were being met, either by my mom or me telling my mom, without speaking.

Thanks for sharing your story Molly. I am also curious at Eamon's diet. I have severe allergies to foods when I was little, and often wonder if I'm missing anything with my children. I have set the DVR to record Blue's Clues tomorrow. I'm anxious to see what his reaction is. Nathan is my oldest at 22 months, his younger brother Nolan is almost 10 months.

My oldest son said very few words until about age 2.5. Then he just started speaking in very robust, adult type language. It was like he did all the developmental stages in his head or something.

Lots of folks have told me this. I'm trying not to worry much, my boys seem very bright and happy to me. There was some research done on young boys that come from long lines of engineers, scientists, doctors, etc. The research is trying to prove that there is a correlation to these boys with more analytical minds and late speech. The theory goes that they are so busy analyzing everything and figuring out how things work, that they forget to learn to talk. They call it the 'Einstein Effect'. Being analytically minded, I find that kind of stuff interesting. :)

So, what I'm trying to say is that my child is simply a genius and just doesn't have time to talk! :rotfl: (I'm the first mother to ever think that, right? ;) )

Did ya'll watch the parade? I loved the float where they did the Rick-Roll. :rotfl: That was funny.
And the band, Second Time Arounders was cool. It's full of older people who were in a marching band either in high school or college. So cute to see the little white haired men and women banging the drums and marching along. :goodvibes

Okay my son almost died when the "Rick-Roll" thing happened. I had no idea why he was sooo excited until he explained the whole "Rick-Roll" thing to me. I'm so out of the loop & my kids have to explain things to me :rolleyes1.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!! We had a small Thanksgiving with just my family and my sisters and their families so we didn't have any drama this year. Then me and my sister went shopping at K-Mart since it's the only store open.

I got to work today at 6am to finish up some month end items and then later my husband, kids and I are going to the movies, but we can't agree on a movie to watch. My daughter is begging me to see twilight, but I'm not too sure I want her to see it. My husband and son want to see that movie with Samuel L. Jackson & Bernie Mac. My son was a big fan of Bernie Mac before he died so he wants to see his last movie, but I think it's rated "R". I want to see Bolt, but no one else except my son wants to see that, but he'd rather see the Bernie Mac movie (I can't remember the name of the movie right now :upsidedow). Nothing can ever be simple :3dglasses.

You should have taken me up on my offer. It was fun around here, we ate, played games, drank some Pomegranate-infused tequila  , played more games, ate more, made lists for Black Friday shopping, then went to bed ... not altogether, separately of course!!

No crying at Disneyland, except when the MSEP starts!!

It sounds like everyone else is having a great day.

Fortunately, I can't remember any bad holiday get-togethers from my family, other than I was sad when they tapered off because of kids' new families and divorces.

I do know that I ate way too much yesterday!! I feel like a blimp today!!!

Okay my son almost died when the "Rick-Roll" thing happened. I had no idea why he was sooo excited until he explained the whole "Rick-Roll" thing to me. I'm so out of the loop & my kids have to explain things to me :rolleyes1.

Ok, I missed it, what is Rick-Roll and what happened in the parade? Guess I'm clueless!!

EDIT: Okay, I looked it up, kinda stupid, I was actually watching when it happened!

Katie, we went and saw Bolt yesterday for the $5.00 matinee non-3D price. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very clever and had awesome characters. I guess we can expect some better projects out of WDAS now that Lasseter is at the helm. What's the deal with all the new animated films being in 3-D? Sure makes it hard for a family to see it in the theaters.

Our Thanksgiving was pretty uneventful. We went to my in-laws and of course there was drama with one of my nieces (she brought her boyfriend -- which was big surprise because last we heard she was a lesbian). She and her mom got into a fight and had to leave early. I really dread Thanksgiving with these people, but they are the only family we have here in Phoenix, so we go each year. At least this year we are heading to my mom's house in CO for Christmas, so we won't have to deal with the drama -- well, at least in-law type drama. ;) My mom and her dh have a FAR from perfect relationship so there is always friction there as well. Sigh. . . I know I'm really going to miss Disneyland this Christmas season.

We have our CA friends coming to stay with us for the next couple days so I'll probably be scarce. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend and doesn't max out their credit cards. :)

Good Morning everyone!

Wendy, I hope you are feeling better today.

I love the new siggie emblems some of you ladies have.:lovestruc How can I get one?
