*Girls DL Trip* OLD THREAD

We aren't as chatty, and our planning has been slow......but do you think we will need a new thread by Monday?

Can you tell Im bored?

Bleh. I have another kidney stone and it's weird... I have to take prostate medication for it, but it lowers my blood pressure so I have to try to stay put. I broke the rules and went to my school's Jefferson campus this afternoon, where representatives of the firefighters and emergency crews were honored with a framed poster of photographs from the Jesusita fires. The fire chiefs for Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Ventura were present. A firefighter who was injured in the battle against the fires accepted on behalf of Ventura. I was so touched by the ceremony and got two posters, one for me and one to send to my mom and dad. I wish you all could see it. I'll try to take a photo, but there are so many tiny images on it that if you were to see everything, the file size would be huge.

I was surprised that not very many students were there. My professor has a photo on the poster and was asked to speak. I think he was truly touched that I came to show support because he knows how horribly ill I've been. He was talking to the mayor, I think, and when I walked by he reached out and patted my arm. It's the little things...

Sorry to hear about your stone. :(

The Jesusita fires were crazy! So many people were displaced and the fire was huge. The smoke was thick for miles & miles. I'm glad to hear that people haven't forgotten about the fire personnel that worked so hard to save what they could.

We went to Lac La Hache, just past 100 Mile House

That's so funny - I actually grew up in 100 Mile House! Went to Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School........ My best friend lived at Lac La Hache. Five hour drive - you must be driving fast :car: I think my best time through the canyon was about 4 hours, but that was through the night, no traffic, no stops (speeding - shhhhh!).

What a small world! My DH lived there for a few years when his dad was the Manager of Overwaitea. It's beautiful but I like being closer to Vancouver because I love going to concerts!

I want to travel to Canada someday, I've never been. I'd love to see the northern lights, but I heard that the mosquitoes are murder there in the summertime. My aunt Janie is from there.

Cheryl thanks for the congrats to Katy and hope little Bella is feeling better! I spose that is a necessity after all! :)

Thanks to you too Beth. Katy is SO over the top excited. We picked the girls up from VBS and Shelby's team won the week. They have points that they earn for being good and bringing in canned goods for the poor and school supplies etc. Katy was in the blue team and Shelby was in the yellow and Shelby's team won! She was so excited but it worked out good cuz then right after we got to tell Katy the good news!

We went home and had dinner and then went back to the carnival. It was a lot of fun for the girls. They got to do rock climbing and a bounce house and they had a little picture booth and I got a great little photo strip of the girls and I as a little keepsake. It was lots of fun. Lynn is spending the weekend with one of her friends and then tomorrow we are going to the meet. I am SO excited for Katy! I hope her team does well but just the fact that she gets to go is exciting!

Bridgette I am so sorry you are having more ills! I have had stones before and know how terribly painful they are. I wish I could say that my problems were better but unfortunately not. I am REALLY nervous about what is going to happen. Esp on this LONG plane ride and then just when we get there. I told Shane today I may be spending our trip in the room while THEY get to explore D.C. UGH.

Anyway I am off to bed. Even though I was hurting it was still a good week and night for the girls so I was happy for them at least and I am REALLY excited about the weekend for Katy.

I will DEF report back tomorrow and Sunday with how they did! :)

Take care all and talk soon!

Happy Weekend Diva's!!!!!

So we're scratching the plans for Tahoe tomorrow, it's supposed to be nothing but thunderstorms! Drats....so instead we're going to San Francisco for the day. Hopefully it will be nice and sunny..........but weather says 60's. Brrrrr for me anyway. :)

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. :grouphug:

You should totally come to Canada - it's beautiful. There can be mosquitos in some places though, but that's what Off! is for :thumbsup2

Maybe we should have the Diva's come to Canada:thumbsup2

I agree :rotfl: Frank already invited everyone here :yay:

Glad you had a good week! What lake did you go to?

Vicki - where are you staying in Victoria?

We are staying at the Empress. It looks like a really cool older hotel! I'm excited!

Vicki, I'm pretty worried about this student loan thing because it's taking TOO long.

 I know its nerve wrecking...hang in there, I'm sure it'll be approved!
It's so sad... I honestly can't remember the last time that I was on the thread

Things have been uber crazy the last 6 weeks or so at both home and work, so there has been very little dis time. Everything is okay, but there are seriously not enough hours in the day!

Anyhow, I just wanted to pop on and say hello to everyone! I miss you all!!! It was fun to see everyone who was here last weekend and it seems like forever between now and the October trip.

Oh, I also wanted to report that I have officially booked a Premium Bldg 1 room for Feb, so all systems are ready, set, go!

Hi Jane, It was great meeting you and sharing a couple Happy Birthday drinks with you! Looking forward to seeing you again in Oct.!

We are going to DL tomorrow! The kids haven't seen the new Fantasmic (no dragon still I hear) but it'll be fun anyway. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I posted this on the October meet thread but wanted to make sure everyone saw it:

Hey ladies--just a reminder that if you have an Annual Pass and you haven't bought your Trick or Treat Party tix yet that they go on sale to the general public tomorrow--so dates will probably start selling out.

And if you don't have an Annual Pass--be sure and go online tomorrow and buy them before they sell out for the 23rd!

(Dawn and Boo Bear--we're all set! )

Thanks for the reminder! I had not gotten my ticket yet but I just did so I'm set for the party!

Oh, the Empress is a really beautiful old hotel - we love to stay there when we're in Victoria. I love it when we get a good deal on concierge there - the lounge is so cool. They have an afternoon tea that is just yummy, really good scones (Jesse used to call them "scrones"). It is a bit expensive, but really worth it at least once :thumbsup2 You'll be right across from the Royal BC Museum. Very cool! Are you flying into YVR then or directly to Victoria?

Oh good! I am glad that you like the Emperss - I love the charm and character of good old hotels!

:lmao: Scrones!

We are actually flying into Seattle, Bob's dad is from Seattle so his parents are flying into Seattle Wed. we'll join them on Thurs. evening and then take the ferry to Victoria on Friday afternoon, Victoria until Sun. night and then back to Seattle and flying home on Mon. night. A quick trip and I think I'll love Victoria and wish we had more time just like Vancouver.

There is an exhibit at the Royal BC Museum, Treasures of the World's Cultures, that Bob's mom is interested in so hopefully we'll get a chance to check it out. I'm sure the kids will hate it. :3dglasses

And I want to go to the Butchart Gardens - I've seen the miniature version at EPCOT...Bob laughs when I say that and says you've traveled around the world by going to EPCOT! Why, yes I have!! :rotfl:

Thanks for all of the fun information - I am getting more and more excited!

Oh Vicki you will have a BLAST in Victoria. I have been there several times and LOVE it! I am jealous you get to stay at the Empress. That is a BEAUTIFUL hotel and right on the harbor! I agree with Teresa try to go to the High Tea if you have the time. I have not done it but it looks fabulous! You will LOVE the Butchart Gardens as well. They are just beautiful! Take lots of pics!

If you go to Seatle and have time (and like seafood) try to eat at Anthonys on the Pier. They have the BEST plank smoked salmon and the yummiest salads!! I LOVE that place! If the weather is nice (and August is the best month for Seattle) you can usually sit outside on the deck and overlook Puget Sound. It is Gorgeous! And of course you have to go check out Pike's market. Go watch the fish mongers throw some Salmon and they have some BEAUTIFUL fresh flower boquets that you can buy that will dry nicely and you can put them in your home. Gosh I miss that place!!! When I lived there we used to hang out there all the time on the weekends. Another fun thing is the underground tour. That is down in Pioneer Square. And of course there is always the space needle. :)

Well it is Saturday morning and everyone is still sleeping but me. ;)

I got up to try and tackle yet MORE laundry. Geez that stuff never seems to end! But I don't want to come home to huge piles of it and a messy house so I want to try and get it all done before we go! I am not sure when exactly we have to leave for the meet but luckily we only have to go in the afternoon since she is in the relay and that is at the end of the day!! Good thing too because it is a ways away.

Anyway hope everyone has a GREAT Saturday and take care. I will check in at the end of the day and tell you guys how she did! :)

Morning ladies!!

I hope you all have a good day today. We have errands to run here and everyone needs a haircut so it's going to be a busy day.

Talk to y'all later.

Happy hair-cutting!! Stay cool :thumbsup2

Afternoon all. I am back from the meet and unfortunately have a nasty headache. I sent Shane and the girls off to our dinner date and I stayed home. I couldn't deal with anything else tonight but wanted to fill you in. We drove ALL the way out there and then ended up sitting there in the heat for like 3 hours for her to swim for 5 mins! SO not worth it I tell you. There was 5 teams in her heat and they took 5th. Then there were 8 teams in the next heat so I don't know how their team will do overall but probably last place. I don't know if she will get even a ribbon or whatever.

I told Shane I probably won't bother going tomorrow cuz it was just too much for me standing in that sun for so long. I ended up with a nasty headache and I can't deal with getting sick right before our trip.

Anyway this morning I thought I would check into buying our Satute of liberty tickets and they were SOLD OUT through Nov!!! I was so disgusted. Now that they are letting people into the crown it is a madhouse. Luckily we were still able to at least go to the island but we can't even go into the lower part. I was really bummed but what else is new. This is a once in a lifetime trip and who knows when we will get back but at least we will get to see it and more importantly we will get to see Ellis Island which is what I REALLY wanted to see.

Anyway I am bushed. I am going to go lay down. Hope everyone has a good rest of the day!

Hey Kelly, sorry things haven't been going the way you'd hoped. And I hope you feel better soon!

I was bored, very bored, so I started a new thread for those Divas planning to hit Vegas in the Fall. We have a decent sized group now so I thought it would be nice to have our own Thanksgiving trip thread. If you'd like, check it out here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2246006 :)

Hello everybody! I'm sitting here waiting for my banana bread to bake. It's getting to the point where the delicious aroma is filling the whole place and I'm feeling o so hungry. It's torture, especially since I've had no appetite lately. I just hope that the loaf doesn't break in half when I take it out of the pan. It's about 50/50.

I'm still so incredibly sick. I couldn't leave the futon today except for the restroom and to fix food and get more water... until about an hour ago. The fever is back. Bleh. My dad said give the antibiotics a few more days and that the one he called in will work for both sinuses and kidneys. I got energy when my niece, Kara, got on the phone and told me her hair was long enough for a tony pail. I about died! She'll be 3 next month and it's taken forever for her to get her hair growing. My mom said the tony pail was only about a 1/2 an inch long, but it's progress!

So the kids are staying at my mom and dad's for the weekend. They were playing around the pool area and my dad was working in the garden a few feet away. Kara went to say something to my dad and he must have upset a bee hive somewhere because he was swarmed and tried desperately to get Kara out of there. He got stung 12 times all over, Kara got stung on her eyelid and arm, Ellie was grazed once and my mom got hit a few times. I called at the wrong time and the kids were screaming it was awful! At least we're better today and fixing tony pails. They went swimming again without fear and they put Spanky in the pool too. He stood at the edge of the pool and barked until they let him in. Forget my parents, I'm excited to see my dogs when I go home in a few weeks! :rotfl2:
