*Girls DL Trip* OLD THREAD

Oh January, where have you been all our lives!!

Wendy, I'm about to start re-read the Twilight series too. Rum sounds good right now.. Malibu rum.. With pineapple juice.. Oooo!!!

MTV is showing the entire Star Wars Saga this weekend. And yes I am watching it. I hardly watch MTV though...

We miss January. Glad she is checking in with us. Sorry she spent 3 hours reading only to conclude we talked A LOT about balls!

Rum & Pineapple is something my DD would drink. And she barely watches TV either (I can't imagine, we watch all the time...). And she is so sweet like you, Courtney. I think you two are like two peas in a pod.:thumbsup2

And I think Katie has the best looking balls I have seen in a very long time. Awesome job, girl.:lmao:

Cheryl - give Chase a kiss on his nose for me.:flower3:

Aww Linda, that's such a wonderful compliment! Brianne seems like such a sweetheart! I can tell you 2 are very close (like me and my Mom!).

Is she going on the Alaska cruise with you and your DH? I went with my parents to a cruise in Europe the summer after I graduated high school. It was a blast and it was really nice hanging out with my parents as an 'adult'.

I'm off for the night. Jesus (DBF) and I are going to a local diner for dinner (breakfast for dinner). I'll be back later tonight, probably late. Have a wonderful night ladies!

Oh January, where have you been all our lives!!

Wendy, I'm about to start re-read the Twilight series too.

I've been reading this "new" series--it's actually for teens and it's not as good as Twilight but it's entertaining. I just bought the third book today and am going to crack it open tonight--it's the Blue Bloods series by Melissa De la Cruz. I also bought the first two books in some other young adult vampire series--it's quite the "trend"--and right now I feel like young adult books are just my speed!

So, I've made the strawberry butter and measured out the flour for my popovers in the a.m. (had just enough--whew--did not want to have to run out to the store tonight!) Tomorrow morning I'll take out the eggs (because they need to be room temp.) before I jump in the shower and then whip them up before I dry my hair/put on makeup because the popovers have to sit for an hour before you bake them. My friends are coming at 9 a.m.

I'm just saying... if i had a cake ball crown... i would have to award it to Katie... man... those look awesome!

Aren't you sweet & please let us know how the ice cream turns out. It sounds delish.

Thank the LORD! My ebay auctions are over.... whew... all of those auctions at the same time took some effort let me tell you. I had 50 listings total. 46 sold and 4 didn't. I made $1,334.59 :cool1:

WOW that is great :banana::banana:.

I'm sitting outside, drinking rum, looking at the lake, people watching and rereading Twilight. Can life get any better!? I submit that it cannot!

Sounds fabulous. Maybe I should read the Twilight books. My DD has the whole series, but I've never even thought to read them. It would probably be a great escape from reality for me.

I might just forgive you if you explain how you made those gorgeous cake balls! :lmao: They look totally professional. How did you do the shape, first of all? Did you dip like candy for the frosting/coating? And did you cone on the drizzle or what?

Actually one writer had a great thought about Adam -- by not being the "American Idol" he will have more flexibility in his song choices and style for his first CD...

I just roll the balls with my hands (that doesn't sound right ). The only tool I use to make them is a candy dipping tool to dip them in the chocolate. It just makes it easier to get the excess chocolate off. For the drizzle I just use a baggie with a small hole at the end. Nothing to fancy.

So true about first CD. Adam can have more freedom while Kris has to sing that Mountain, Hurricane, whatever song :scared:.

If I were to make cake balls (now I'm thinking Italian frosting with rum on cake balls . . . . ) I would use a mini ice cream scoop to make the balls. But I would be interested to know how Katie does it--I think she said she had some candy tools that helped make it easier.

Yummy, that flavor sounds heavenly. I haven't experimented with boozy balls yet, but Dawn gave me an idea for Pineapple cake with Malibu coconut rum & I'm going to try that out :thumbsup2.

Hi everyone!
I hope you all are having a great night. I spent the last 3 hours reading this entire thread. I have been dis-less for almost 2 weeks. That is just WRONG! :sad2:

I love all the balls talk. I actually make the Oreo Truffle balls during holidays. My specialty is Mint Oreo Truffles.:lovestruc They are yummy! And addicting. I have never heard of using cake---which sound soooo much easier! I am definitely going to try that out.

I read sooo much and the only thing I can remember is balls.:rotfl:

Hello January. I'm going to have to remember about the mint Oreo truffles around the holidays.

Hope you're doing well and try not to be a stranger.

And I think Katie has the best looking balls I have seen in a very long time. Awesome job, girl.:lmao:

I love popovers. My mom makes them during the holidays when we have prime rib. I've never tried to make them because I thought you needed to have cast iron muffin tins. Do you use cast iron or regular :confused3.

Also, I would love the recipe for your strawberry butter. That sounds wonderful.

Wow, interesting that you use your hands to roll them! Okay dumb question, do you squeeze them :rotfl2: (really, I want to know), or just lightly press them into a ball shape? I've never made these before and I used to bake a lot so I am truly asking.

What is the candy dipper called..or do you have a photo of it please? I think I need this.

Yes, Adam has been saved from the hurricane, mountain song!!! :lmao::rotfl: Simon was so funny when he was saying that. I'm sorry, but some of the amateur songwriters last year did a better job than Kara's writing partners.... it makes "A Moment Like This" seem brilliant.

Too much tequila tonight! Tomorrow's going to be a long day. Goodnight...............

Katie~ 5 extra kids in one night??? Holy smokes woman.......

Hi January! I hope everything is going good!
Cheryl~ Have a great time with your friends in the morning.
Sister~ Sounds like you are having a marvelous weekend.
Tina~ I hope you feel good in the morning.
Donna~ good luck on the garage!
Hi Courtney~ how was dinner?
Bridgette~ good job with the ebay money!

Hi all - We were busy all day and I just stopped in to say HI!

Donna - PM sent!

Dawn - You are our very own Paula Dean! The ice cream recipe sounds so good!

Cheryl - Your kitties sound like Bob's...one of them runs all over the house and sneaks out when possible - the other one is so skittish and runs and hides under the bed every time she feels threatened! I had to leave my dog in Denver with my sister and her family because I knew she would cause the poor cat to have a heart attack.

Katie - The cake balls look wonderful! I don't have a lot of time to cook but those just might make me get out of my baking slump!

Bridgette - Great job on the eBay auction! :cool1:

Ok...I am doing this from memory and we all know my memory is not great and especially after a couple of margaritas! But HI to ALL and I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday! We have a block party tomorrow and I am making a Mixed Berry Cobbler...wish me luck! :)

Also, I would love the recipe for your strawberry butter. That sounds wonderful.

I have popover tins. They are non-stick. I found mine pretty cheap at a Home Goods store.

I don't know Katie--the strawberry butter is pretty darn complicated. . .. well since you're a ball expert I guess you can handle it.

Slightly soften a pound of butter. Whip it in a mixer until smooth. Add (about a third at a time) a jar of strawberry preserves (I used Knott's). Blend until a smooth color and consistency. Put in crocks and serve! LOL. It is so darn good and so darn EASY! And it's good on pancakes, waffles what have you. (Obviously you can do other flavors too--someday I'm going to do boysenberry.) And if you don't want to make up a whole pound of butter just cut back on the amount of preserves used.

If you want the popover recipe I can post that tomorrow--you can use muffin tins, they just won't "pop" as much.

Wow, interesting that you use your hands to roll them! Okay dumb question, do you squeeze them :rotfl2: (really, I want to know), or just lightly press them into a ball shape?

Donna's trying to get in the Bad Girls Club!

And Deb, I hope your son is feeling better and that you have a great rest of the weekend!

That's what I need, the candy dipping tool. I also rolled them with my hands, and the second time I made them I used the baggie trick for the drizzle and it worked so much nicer. :thumbsup2

Of all the ones I made, surprisingly enough the most popular with Ruben's coworkers was the pineapple cake, mixed with crushed pineapple, coconut and macadamia nuts, dipped in white chocolate, and sprinkled with more coconut for decoration. Those went fast!
They are drinkers, and said it reminded them of a pina colada. :confused3 I HATE coconut so those were the ones I liked the least! Go figure. lol
Thanks for posting about those. The balls have been fun to play around with. ;)

Well ladies, just stopping in to say good night. Hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow. :goodvibes

I love popovers. My mom makes them during the holidays when we have prime rib. I've never tried to make them because I thought you needed to have cast iron muffin tins. Do you use cast iron or regular :confused3.

I also love popovers. I used to make them in cast iron and you had to put some prime rib drippings in the pan first.

Donna's trying to get in the Bad Girls Club!

Honest, I'm not! :cool1:

The balls have been fun to play around with. ;)

Now who's the Bad Girl? ;)

There's two interesting recipes on the D23 home pages - open for anyone. One is Walt's own "Chris cold pie, a lemon chiffon pie and a his fav chili.

I also love popovers. I used to make them in cast iron and you had to put some prime rib drippings in the pan first.

Yes, popovers with prime rib is pretty traditional--but I prefer them the Neiman Marcus way with breakfast or a salad and strawberry butter!

Morning all!

Deb hope you had fun at your carnival! I know you don't like those but sometimes we just have to do stuff with the kids we don't like ;) I'm sure you still had SOME fun though ;)

Tina hope you don't have any hangy overs. Hope you have a good day today! ;)

Bridgette that is awesome how much you made on Ebay. I have never sold anything. Been too nervous. We had a friend who got burned on it. I have bought plenty of stuff and even got burned with that so I stopped using it but that is awesome that you did so weel. CONGRATS!!!

Well I am up early like always just CAN'T sleep in. yesterday after breakfast Michelle went with me to mom's to feed her kitties and then we decided that the best thing to do would be to see a movie. We were trying to think of what would be best for everyone and decided on Night at the Museum. So we came home and after everyone got all purtied up we headed out to the theaters. It was pretty cute although not quite as good as the first but I liked seeing all the D.C. stuff (good for my trip ;) ).

Then after that we came home and got our stuff and headed to mom's and went swimming. It luckily hasn't been too hot here so the pool wasn't REAL warm but just the kids and Michelle's hubby swam. Michelle, Shane and I were smart enough not to get in ;).

After that we came home and made a HUGE yummy bbq dinner and watched a dvd (ghost town) and then they decided to watch another one (get smart) but I was beat by then so I hit the hay. So they are all still asleep cuz I think they went to bed pretty late. I was OUT so I have NO idea when they actually came to bed and I have no idea when they are going to get up now but Michelle and the girls and I are supposed to go to the zoo and Fairytale Town today. And the guys are going to do some guy stuff and then this afternoon they are probably going to watch the race. So that is our day in a nutshell.

Then tomorrow after they leave we have to go get Lynn which I am NOT looking forward to I must say because we have not seen her since the night before she ran away. It is going to be kind of awkward to say the least. Plus she is spending the night on top of it and I know I won't be able to sleep well because the trust is just NOT there anymore. Whenever she lived here I NEVER got a good nights sleep because I always worried about her sneaking out. I know it would be stupid of her to do it because she HAS to show up to court the next day but it is now something ingrained in me. It is just going to be weird seeing her again after NOT seeing her for months. I haven't even spoken to her since she ran away. Shane has been the only one that has. Things are just different now. She is a completely different person. Ah well we just have to get through it I guess. Plus I really don't know what to expect at this juvenille court as I have never gone to one but I guess we will find out. :)

Anyway that's it for me. Hope everyone has a good day today.

Talk later.

Don't have time to catch up, so I hope all is well with everyone. Got a super busy day today. Taking family portraits with my brother, nephews, Taylor and myself. Tay and I are getting our hair done at the salon for it. Then my family is having a "thing" for me here today. I just wanted something simple. So I picked pizza and karaoke. I hope to get pics posted soon. I feel like since I have been on vacation, I have been more busy than ever. Talk to you all later.

Cheryl~ the strawberry butter sounds easy enough to make.
What are popovers?

Donna's trying to get into the bad girls club!!

Kel~ Sounds like you guys have had a great weekend. The best part of the carnival was when Kaeleb said he wanted to go home. Spring Fest brings out the most interesting people you wouldn't see otherwise. Unless you were at Wal Mart on certain days....:rolleyes1

Stacie~ Have fun getting fam pics. I hope pizza & karaoke is a lot of fun.

Today I am not sure what we are going to do. We switched the Sunday BBQ to Monday, since we are all off and Steve has been DJn at CB since Thursday night and he is pooped!!
I need to start reading Frankenstein for my final essay. blah....
They are showing Wall E in the park tonight, Kaeleb wants to go and see that. So we might go and see that. The boys want to go to the aquatic center. I am not sure if I want to sit by the pool all day.
Kaeleb doesn't have a fever today, so I am hoping he is feeling better.
He is coughing but he seems to be ok other than that.

I hope you ladies have a great day.

Like Beth said, I just roll them with my hands into a ball shape.

The tools are called "chocolate dipping tools" and you can see a variety of them on Amazon. You can also buy them at baking supply stores or Michaels.

I have popover tins. They are non-stick. I found mine pretty cheap at a Home Goods store.

OOOH, that sounds great, I'm going to make some. Thanks for the tip on the popover tin. It's probably a lot easier to use than cast iron. Whenever you are free, I'd love the recipe.

I love coconut pineapple. Beth- What's your favorite flavor of cake, filling, frosting? I want to get an idea of what flavors to make in October.

Enjoy your time off and your celebrating .

And Deb, I hope your son is feeling better and that you have a great rest of the weekend!

Thanks! He is just sneezie & coughing now.

I hope you are enjoying your morning with your friends.

Deb - Lol about the carnival. What is it about carnivals that it brings out the most "interesting" people. But hey it is good for people watching eh? ;)
