*Girls DL Trip* OLD THREAD

The best part of the carnival was when Kaeleb said he wanted to go home. Spring Fest brings out the most interesting people you wouldn't see otherwise. Unless you were at Wal Mart on certain days....:rolleyes1

:rotfl: So true about Wal-Mart. I had to go to Wal-Mart yesterday & there was an irate man in the store and security was chasing him around the store. He kept yelling "I'm not a thief, I'm not a thief". My older DD found it very interesting :rotfl:.

I much prefer Target, but their are a couple items that I use that only Wal-Mart carries so we have to make the journey there a couple times a month.

Glad to hear Kaeleb is starting to feel a little better :flower3:.

Bob and I are cooking away..the kitchen smells so good. I have the laptop plugged in and we've been reading the board and laughing at what a great group of girLs ya'll are!

Soooo with the pumpkin ice cream.. i decided.. to.. toast this really delicious raisin bread that i bought into croutons.. then i sprinkled a little rum on it.. crisped 3 slices of apple wood thick smoked bacon.. cooled and crumbled that with the crutons.. next mixed the bacon crumbles and raisinbread cruotons with a little tub of the dipping caramel.. VERY NICE!!:thumbsup2

So when the pumpkin ice cream is 30 minutes from being done.. we will spoon spoonfuls of the caramel mixture in... then let it set... should be yummy!

Odd ice cream made by an odd girL:rotfl2:

Dawn & Bob the ice creams sounds yummy! The bread & rum...even better....

It sounded delish until I heard bacon :scared1:. I'll take mine with everything minus the bacon .

Hi to Dawn who is probably no longer cooking...

Yes, popovers with prime rib is pretty traditional--but I prefer them the Neiman Marcus way with breakfast or a salad and strawberry butter!

Yum, I forgot about those...

Cheryl~ the strawberry butter sounds easy enough to make.
What are popovers?
.

They are wonderful big puffy balls made from flour and egg. They rise in the pan in the oven and then when you cut into them, they fall (the center is hollow). As Cheryl said, traditionally served with roast beef or prime rib in England.

Like Beth said, I just roll them with my hands into a ball shape.

The tools are called "chocolate dipping tools" and you can see a variety of them on Amazon. You can also buy them at baking supply stores or Michaels.
:.

Thx. I looked online and saw now that the cake is crumbled and mixed with frosting - now I get how you create the ball shape. Most of the recipes recommended using a melon baller, which I have.

I'd never heard of these cake balls until you guys started posting. According to the articles, it's really popular in the south and in Texas. Now one lady has turned pro and is selling them to Neiman Marcus.

I like them with the sticks in, like lollipops! Great for a buffet.

Hey everybody! I just wanted to check in... hope everybody is having a great Sunday. I donated blood for the first time today :goodvibes I feel good about it too :) Now I'm drinking a cosmopolitan that my dad made me. We're grilling out tonight since the race is today (Indy 500). It'll be madness in about 2 hours.

Hi everyone!!! I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday! I woke up to the spaceship landing or making some kind of noise this morning. Anyone else hear it? I don't have any plans today. My Mom is making cinnamon rolls (for lunch! haha) and I'm going to hold off on my laundry and cleaning my room/bathroom until tomorrow. If the sun comes up I may go down to the pool and try to get some kind of tan. We ended up going to ihop last night and it was still good. After that we watched Mission Impossible 3 on TV.

Cheryl - I've seen that Blue Blood series at the book stores for awhile now. They looked pretty good. I love books by Sarah Dessen and she has a new one out, I want to pick up that one and after that I'll take a look at those!

Vicki - I'm sad our Nuggies lost. :(

Kelly - I hope everything goes okay with Lynn coming over tomorrow.. I can see how you would be a little stressed.

Stacie - It sounds like a fun day for you today! I hope you have a great time!

Deb - I hope Kaeleb is feeling better!!

Dawny - The ice cream actually sounds good. I'm weird like that though. I don't really like bacon in things, but I would eat that.. Let us know how it turns out!

Bridgette - Good for you for donating blood!!!

Beth- What's your favorite flavor of cake, filling, frosting? I want to get an idea of what flavors to make in October.
I am simple when it comes to food and dessert. I like plain flavors like french vanilla cake, yellow cake, and then milk chocolate, vanilla, or cream cheese frosting. But make whatever you like. Most people have tastes more exotic than mine. ;)

Happy Sunday ladies!!! I hope you are all enjoying your day.
We went out for breakfast and then to get hair cuts. I got 3 inches taken off, but it's the same style, which is to say no style. ;) I'm so boring with my hair.

Anyway, now we are just chilling. Talk to ya later.

I give you major props for donating blood! I haven't ever been able to for one reason or another! Have fun watching the Indy 500 today! I used to watch the races with my dad too! I hope Dale Jr. does well! Have a fun holiday weekend! :flower3:

I'm pretty open to my desserts...I dislike chocolate but LOVE red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting! I live with two other girls so we all have specialties cooking. I make the fish dishes and bbq (I send a picture of the raw steak to my dad and he'll give me instructions) and my best friend makes really good chicken and pasta (well she makes just about everything) and then the third roommate can make the best spaghetti! I am the baker though so I love to make dessert.

Hope everyone is having a magical Memorial Day weekend so far! I'm excited...we're lighting up the fire pit tonight and bbqing and making smores! YUM!

Talk to you all later ladies!

Just wanted to stop and wish everyone a wonderful day. Me and the kids are just relaxing. Hubby had to work. I am slowing doing laundry and they are outside playing slip and slide.

I planned on cleaning out their closets and pack away winter stuff. So far, I have not made much progess:rotfl2:

Our darn neighbors were up until 5am partying. This is the second night in a row. Really, is that necessary.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!

My assistant's daughter called me a couple of hours ago--Francine was admitted as an emergency to the hospital last night and had her surgery this morning on an emergency basis. The mass they had found was cancer and it has spread--her daughter was too upset to know the full extent of where. In any event she will need chemo and other treatments. Please say a prayer for her and her family.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
After I had Selena my iron level dropped to around 4. The day after she was born I needed a transfusion and received 2 units of blood. I am eternally grateful to the people who donated my blood.

Cheryl - Sorry to hear about your assistant. I'll add her to our prayer chain at church!

Today is day 3 of the weekend and I'm still sore from my hike yesterday. I'm so tired that I'm ready to take a nap at any moment. I might go to the gym today but it all depends if I really feel like getting up, getting changed, driving to the gym.yaddayaddayadda... you know the rest.

Today my little sister is sleeping over at the cousins' house and tomorrow the rest of us are going to go over for swim time and some barbecue. Only this week left and I graduate next Friday (6/5).

Have a great, lazy Sunday!

Oh Cheryl, I am so sad to hear that. Sending pixie dust to Francine and her family.

We are just chillin' today. Getting ready for the cruise, I am reading the cruise critic boards and finally posting some questions and replying to others a bit. My name is lulubelle there too, I have been a member for like ten years and have ten posts.:sad2: I am so pathetic in that I can never veer far from these boards into another dimension.

Glad everyone is having a good day.:)
Hello to my baby girl :cutie:

Hi, all....it's Michelle, posting under Kelly's username! I wanted to stop by and say hi to everyone.

We finally woke up and the girls and Kelly and I went to the Zoo and Fairytale land. We had a great time, but I was nursing some tummy problems. :( That part was a bummer. The guys hung out and played basketball and watched the race. Shane is in seventh heaven and my Riley even wants to stay longer and hang out. I was worried about the boys, since their girls are Zoe's age, but seems like everyone is having alot of fun! I know I am!

Big hugs to everyone!!
Stacielee, sent you a text.

How fun that your families are having so much fun together!

Well I'm back from our big job, and I'm exhausted! We did a grad party for 30 on Friday, and today we catered a BBQ for 150. It was a huge success--plenty of yummy food, tons of kids, lots of drinks, etc.:banana: We ended up using Marty's cousin as our assistant, and she was awesome! Bussed tables, did the dishes, loaded the car, etc. She used to wait tables, but now she and her husband are teachers with 2 kids, so she can use the extra money.

We're just going to veg out tonight, and tomorrow, too! We may go to our firend's son's first bday party tomorrow evening, but she said it was ok to pass if we are still too tired.

And the tequila did not kill me! I got up at 5:00 this morning, and I was feeling good! Maybe I should drink Patron more often :confused3
