What about a Watch, for the time they have spent together.

Watches are very in right now. My daughter is 20 and loves them. She found a beautiful Michael Korrs one at TJ Maxx

this^ Charming Charlies has them is all kinds of colors, for around $15..he could get one in her school color, or her favorite if he remembers..to even in her prom dress color (maybe) showing sentimental thoughts to the "time" of their first real date. Kohl's carries a lot too and I imagine they have some type of sale or promo going on now. The VB thing I guess is very location specific? I was doing errands yesterday and passed our outlet store and there was a HUGE crowd inside,(so I had to see why-big summer sale) and a TON of teen girls with their boyfriends who were giving the yay or nay on patterns, lol...backpacks, make-up bags (do not have him get ANYTHING make up related) ID badges and the wristlets that carry phone etc were going, going, gone.
I asked my DS and he said maybe tickets to a concert, local kind or fest to keep cost down..so they could plan a specific date and give the tix w/flowers and her favorite candy bar.

I also think jewelry is a bit much. I mean he calls her his girlfriend but they've only been on one date? A nice card, and flowers is enough.

A bouquet of flowers or a couple of CDs. Jewelry is crazy for someone you've dated once.
