It wasn't until the grocery stop that the heat finally hit us full in the face. Now, we come from Michigan. And it does get pretty hot here in the summer. But I had lived in Fl. for a couple of years long ago and tried to warn them. Did they listen? Ha.
The Hummer pulled up to a brand new Publix. And boy, was there alot of rubber-necking! Lots of people were expecting someone else to pop out, not a cowd of noisy rowdy teenage girls!
I paid extra, $1 per minute past 15 min. to make a 1/2 hour stop. Most everyone seperated to shop for breakfast stuff, pop, snacks, water, etc. But came the first disagreement. Three girls decided to go in together to do it. But they had a hard time deciding on favorite flavors of this or that, brands, chioces, and later, how to divide it. One said she wasn't going to pay for 1/3 of someone elses expencive stuff she had no intention of eating. And so it went. The fun part was at check out where the girls loved to say "where is the HUMMNER LIMO parked? Did you see if so-and-so went back to the HUMMER LIMO?"
Beki, Cindy Barb and I did our own thing, and got checked out. I told them NOT to put all your money for the week in your checked luggage, in case it got lost, etc, but carry it right with yuo til we got the room's safe. Not all listened then either, so we helped out the ones who needed it and got it back later.
I bought muffins, stick cheese, crackers, little debbies, little jello-friut cups and grapes. Oh, and a case of water that I hardly used
Most in our room was similar. Others bought bread and luchmeat, chips, pop, (soda!)etc. And on to Shades of Green!
I knew is was supposed to be close to Poly and it was. Beautiful and amazing resort. At checkin we learned, at 2:30pm that only one room was ready. So we unloaded there, put cold stuff in frige (Cindy bought a styrophome cooler for $2.99 and that was great right then. Especiall since the other room's gallon of OJ was too fat for the frige anyway. 2 bottles of Pure Premium OJ, 8 cartons of yogurt, some fruit and cheese filled the frige. The rest went into the ice chest and off we went.
The six girls could not wait to get to Downtown Disney. Fine! We got the hang of the busses and off they went. The rest of us freshened up and organized things a bit, and purchased the Stars and stipes passes for everyone to begin the next day. By the time we got to the lobby, the other room was ready.
One of the things I was surprised and not real happy about was the room keys. Each room was ony allowed 2 keys and 2 Resort ID's. I tried to tell them that the 15 & 16 year old would not be stuck to our hips and they needed access to transp. etc. They finally relented and gave us ID's for all 10, but only the 2 room keys per room. And the park tickets were seperate as well. So, three things to carry.
Off to Downtown Disney. Shades of Green has two bus loops. Bus A goes to TTC and Bus B goes to Blizzard Beach, MGM & Animal Kingdom. They come every 15 minutes. But to get to DD you have to get to another Disney resortfirst, andtake the bus fromt here. So we went to TTC, bus to Wilderness Lodge (Wanted Cindy to see it anyway) and waited 1/2 hour for the bus to got to DTD. Whew!
One of the best thing I had bought before the trip was a cell phone (well, trac fone). I never has a cell, and don't like the commitment, but the online deal was too good. Bought them for me and Beki. It was a total God-send. $30 got me the phone and 100 units of call time, plus 40 min for registering online and another 100 min for being refered by on of Beki's friends!!
She called once or twice from DTD not imagining that we were on a bus that seemed to go in circles, not where we wanted to be! Finally made it!
Oh, the heat. It was possitivily steaming. Each day the weather in the room would be the same. 94, plus the heat index made it 106. Humidity was so heavy it was hard to breathe.
Met up with the girls, and eventually seperated accroding to everyone's likes. Ended with Me, Beki, Cindy and Barb. This trend would continue all week. Beki shoed us the Mr. Potato place she remembered from the Dis and we set to work making one for my son.
Now, he is almost 14. Too big for Mr. Potato Head? Naw. Cast members really took her under hier wing and showed her how to pack those pieces in. For about $18, you get a Potato and a box. And a huge dislpay that you wald around and around where ther are lots and lots of accessories special of Disney. And you can pack all you can into the box, and long as the box closes.
We ended up with 2 sets (she had to have on too) with thngs like Mickey feet, Buzz lazer gun, Minnie Bow, Mickey glasses, Mickey Bar, Autograph book and pen, Mickey balloon, Safari Mickey hat, Tea Cup to sit in, Mickey hands, lots of eyes, mouths, noses, ears, you name it. One dad was just packing pieces in, with no potato. Said his kids had the potato at home, and he's got a point. Lots more room for more pieces.
There was also Lincoln Logs with a similar set up. Cindy came back in the week for her Grandson's.
Did not buy much else, since we knew we would be back before the week was over. Had a scrumptious chocolate covered strawberry, huge, $2, and Cindy had her first Churro. By now we were jsut hot, tired, sticky and ready to shower. It had been a long day!
Everyone trickled into the room later. The resort is so big now that I swear it was 5 miles to the room form the bus. But it was air conditioned, and a lovely walk. Our path took us past both pools, and since they were opend til 11 pm, we took a dip. Yes, it was crowded but everyone was so friendly and full of "Sorry!" "Excuse me!" that it was still pleasant.
Back to the room to absolutly collapse. And next day: Different stokes, so splitsville again!
