Girl Guide cookies

Hi. I see that the mint cookies are out How much are the boxes this year?

Yepper $4.00. I have 6 boxes left to sell, my dear daughter has caught the flu, and not been able to get out to sell them. She has to turn them in Monday! Some people like the mint ones, others hate them and ask for the vanilla and chocolate!
Hope we can sell the last 6 tomorrow night.

We still have TWO CASES left in our house. DD the Pathfinder hasn't been very productive in her sales!!!

No Girl Guide Cookies for us this year. DD, who started in Sparks, has decided not to continue with Pathfinders (would have been her 3rd year).

The group that she goes to (closest one to our house) is a bit aways and since we were busing it, we would get home late. Too far just to go and buy some cookies.

Oh well!!!!!!!

My daughter is in her 7th year of Sparks/Brownies/GG.... I HATE cookie time.

I just write a check for the case and give a box to people who stop by.

Are Girl Guides the same as Girl Scouts in the US? Just curious because they have a lot of different cookie flavours that we don't get.

No Girl Guide Cookies for us this year. DD, who started in Sparks, has decided not to continue with Pathfinders (would have been her 3rd year).

The group that she goes to (closest one to our house) is a bit aways and since we were busing it, we would get home late. Too far just to go and buy some cookies.

Oh well!!!!!!!

what about registering her as a lone? i believ its for 15- 30 year olds that cant make regular meetings. just a thought...can you tell im a guider? lol

essentially yes, altho started by different people. juilette(sp?) lowe started girl scouts, while lord baden powel started scouting and his sister started guiding. but they do have the differnt flavours. and yes they are darned yummy! a tip for those that love the spring cookies: since the cookies are now made by dare and the supplier used to be christie....the vanilla oreos are the same receipe...or atleast darned close.

My DD started her first year this years as a Spark and she absolutely loves it!! I am happy that she does as I was a Brownie many moons ago and I wanted her to have the same fun we always did.

She has sold 4 cases of the mint cookies and that is enough for us!!

And it is true about the vanilla Oreos. They are identical to the old GG cookies before the change. Ooohh, that reminds me that the Oreos dipped in chocolate will be coming out soon for Christmas!!!

Just had to add Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide are celebrating their 100th anniversay in 2010. Cookies sales will help fund special anniversay get togethers for the girls.

Other event's / parties, etc...

My daughter last year had a trip to Build-A-Bear with money raised from Sparks. She made a teddy bear, and had a fun outing, and it did not cost us a nickle.

For every case of cookies a girl sells ( 48$) the unit gets 11 $ ,the registration fees ( varies by province in Ont 125$ ) the unit gets 15 $ .

From this money we by craft supplies , badges ( badges average 1.50$ per badge) and any other item we need .

When my dd joined I was so happy. She started as soon as I could register her for Sparks and was in her second year of Pathfinders last year.

Unfortunately, the group that she had gone to closed down and she was the only one who transferred to another group. She feels like she doesn't fit in.
The other girls are more mature.... she is a bit youngish for her age but I am fine with that. She gave it a try for one year and when registration time came in Sept... I tried, I really tried but she had decided not to go back. Oh well.....it is her choice. I know that if her original group still existed, she would still be involved.

It is a great experience for young girls.

gosh i type out a response and poof! gone! when i went on to pathfinders i wasthe only one from my group. and i didnt feel like i belonged either. so i switched units. that helped but not much. i didnt finsih it out. sadly i left. then in hs i became what was a jr leader, then left after two and went back in 2002.

There really isn't another group near us. We don't drive so we bus it.

It takes about 1 hr each way. We leave at 6 to get there by 7 and run out to get the 8:30 bus and be home by 9:30. (we take two buses each way). I told her that I don't mind taking her (I go shopping or read while she is there).

The group is great, she just feels like an outsider. She goes to school with some of these kids but they aren't really friends in school either. It's too bad because she has always had a good time. Oh well, it's all part of growing up.

Maybe one day she will rejoin.

i agree, and its really too bad. it was the same way for me, i just coulndt find my nitch with the groups. i was sad when i left, but love doing it as an adult...altho it is a very stressful job. and one we dont even get paid for! good thing i love the girls!
