My mom is thinking of buying a Gingerbread house from the GF to bring home for the holidays. Are they allowed on the plane? would they fit under the seat?

If not how have you all gotten them home if you have boughten them?

They would probably fit under the seat. They are VERY expensive--$65 for a one foot by one foot house.

I can't imagine why they wouldn't be allowed, but due to the vagarities and ever changing rules of the TSA, I do'nt know that I'd buy one and risk tossing $65 in the trash.

Do keep in mind that it would count towards your carry-on allowance. On some airlines, all you'd be able to carry on in addition would be a purse or briefcase, and on some flights, you may be unable to carry on anything other than the gingerbread house (so hopefully you could find a way to put your valuables and medications inside it???)

I would have Disney ship it home(if you spent $65 on a GB house...)so that it will arrive in one piece...only exception IMO would be if you are traveling with a child/and another adult, since you could redistribute your carry on items. I would take all this into account befor leaving for WDW since it might help you decide on certain bags to bring.

The only things that can't be carried onto airliners are objects that can potentially be used as weapons (which includes liquids and gels over 3 ounces per container) or objects too large to fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. There is nothing weapon-like about a gingerbread house. Therefore, if it fits the size requirement, you are permitted to carry it on. Now, everyone above has given you great things to think about, such as "Is it wise to carry it on?"

The suggestion of shipping it home sounds like your wisest choice.

Disney won't ship them. They don't want the responsibility of it breaking in transit. Now that doesn't mean you can't take it to the UPS store and have them pack and ship it, but Disney won't do it.

Do keep in mind that UPS won't guarantee against breakage, if you do the packing.
